In 6 hours

Well am I the only one who thinks 6 hours is no time (unless you're watching Big Brother of course). If I have the day off when DCs are at nursery I get them up and dressed, MN, drop them off, go to the supermarket, come home, MN, have lunch, put some washing on, MN, put a load of drying in, lots of MNing, quick tidy and hoover, MN then it't pick up time again. 6 hours can whizz by! And as for people who have DCs in half days at nursery I don't know why they even bother to go home in between :o

I agree.

I remember last year when eldest started going to nursery for a couple of mornings a week.

Dh was pleased that I'd have "a couple of mornings off" and didn't believe me when I insisted that my nursery days were far more hectic than non nursery days, and I manage to get less done. (And quite how one has a "morning off" while looking after an obstreperous one yr old I still don't know... Hmm)

SAHMs with school aged children have it easier than parents who work that goes without saying.

With preschool children I personally find it easier to be at work than at home all day. I don't get any housework done at all, with the exception of perhaps putting on some washing. But as I have said before I'm the first to admit that I am pretty crap at this homemaking lark.

psychomum5 · 29/11/2010 17:13

but its not 6hrs.

by the time you have fought your way thru the traffic home, its 9.30, and then to get back to school and park and have a space, you need to leave the house at 2.30, so in fact, its 5hrs.

just to sayWink

wubblybubbly · 29/11/2010 17:13

Well that's the thing peppa, I get stuff done during the day so I can sit my arse all night and go to bed at 9.30 with a good book Grin

StealthPolarBear · 29/11/2010 17:15

exactly psycho, I make that point
Whereas nursery is next to work so when I'm at work the drop off takes an extra 5/10 minutes - much more efficient

god, I missed all this while in prison and missing MN (I don;t mean real prison BTW, just the one DH put me in to make me speak again, as opposed to typing everythingWink).

am making up for it today :o

SoMuchToBits · 29/11/2010 17:21

belgo I'm imoressed you got the important jobs done, like setting up the Playmobil advent calendar Wink

peppapighastakenovermylife · 29/11/2010 17:22

Lol wubbly I am not at all jealous, honestly, not a bit Wink

belgo · 29/11/2010 17:30

Somuchsobits - yes quite an achievement I feel. The first three days were fun, but the following 21 were just tiresome. The boxes don't fold properly and some are too small for the pieces, and it doesn't stay up very well! It's the pirates one from a couple of year ago.

psychomum5 · 29/11/2010 17:31

I want a lego advent calendar.

TaperJeanGirl · 29/11/2010 17:49

Pity me, dd1 starts at 8.55, dd2 at 9.15, I then get home about 9.40ish, it seems like I barely have time to take ds coat off before we have to leave to pick dd2 up at 12.10, we then have no time in the afternoon to do anything much before we all have to go back out again to get dd1 at 3.20, they are at different schools too.....annoying! School actually ruins my day!

mumbar · 29/11/2010 17:55

I work. Drop DS off at breakfast club about 8am ish, go to work, collect him and get home between 4-5pm depending on the day. I then try and spend time with him, homework, swimming twice a week, washing etc.

I work term-time only though.

Watch EE then study. (OU degree). I agree 6 hours goes too fast, when I have a whole day at the weekend to do house, shop etc - I bloody can't find the time Grin

Where is the logic in that then Wink

Thinking of dropping a days work to study in that day. Not sure it would happen tho as would just enjoy the time to myself. Grin

you're right, Riven, you've got a much harder job than standard SAHMs, and you've got your own physical problems to contend with :( .

only advice for the cold house is put on a big thick jumper and big socks and gloves and a scarf and and and

make yourself a big flask of a hot drink and sip it throughout the day (you won't have to keep boiling the kettle, which should save some elec)

NoelEdmondshair · 30/11/2010 11:38

There's no such thing as a "standard SAHM".

GlitteryBalls · 30/11/2010 11:53

You let work curtail MNing? I would get a new job.

nickeldonkeyonadustyroad · 30/11/2010 13:19

Noel , i know - i was unsure how to word it, i knew i'd get flamed no matter what i put! what i meant was, that Riven is disabled in her own right, so looking after a disabled daughter is harder for her than if she were fully able-bodied.
