To try and start a campaign to stop the uk release of 'A Serbian film'

I'm not suggesting anyone read the synopsis as that's disgusting enough. But I don't know how the government can allow this disgusting film to be released!

Surely this sort of film encourages paedophillia and violent rape.

There are more slaves alive now than there has been before at any time in the history of the world. The majority of this is sex trafficking.

I'm revolted that a film like this can be given even a censored release date (10th)

I don't believe banning something helps, infact in the ad industry I believe having an advert banned makes the product more desirable. Think of the free publicity John Lewis got about putting dog outside in a winter kennel only this week! Banning I don't think is the answer - I think it can only be made on seeing the film.

That being said, I really don't know how this excuse for a film can have been made. Reading the synopsis made me feel dirty and sad and just plain horrible. WikiP should have had a warning of somesort but it did make me feel sick, very sick. I don't know how people come up with ideas like this, or how people could support this financially tbh but there we go. It in no way gave me any impression that this was based on war time experience. There wasn't anything in the synopsis that gave me the impression it had to be made in Serbia and was particularly about Serbia, more that it was quite "international" and sick but could have been set anywhere. I may have missed something but frankly don't want to read it again.

Quite honestly I don't know where I stand but wish that someone had stopped the film from being made tbh as I am sure there are some sick fucks out there who would take something from it and use it in their own lives. Lets face it if you are that way inclined its likely to be to them what Nigella/Jamie etc are to interested cooks. (my apologies in advance for actually even making that statement!)

"...half in hell..." Shock dittany!

Mumcentreplus · 28/11/2010 00:07

SF do you truly think they will learn anything about the Balkan conflict when they watch the film?...do you think they will leave the film stunned with the sudden realisation of what the Balkans suffered?..get real..they will be talking about the violence and its depiction..

Why should this, or any film (or still photo, or statue...) have to "help" rape victims, or any other victim? I don't know anything about Art, but I wasn't aware "it" is supposed to have a charitable agenda.

dittany - I haven't seen anyone actually say that it would help. I have seen people say that we can't necessarily judge it on whether or not it gets it's supposed point across without seeing it. Which is true. I don't recall anyone saying that they think it does - just that there is a (slim) chance.

Tbh I think there is about 0.00000001% chance of it having a point to make, other than "look at me, look at me!!!" But I haven't seen it, so can't say for definite.

I started a thread on this film ages ago and had it deleted. It just goes too far, too fucking far. This kind of thing sets a standard, people will try to out do it in the sick stakes, if this can be shown, what else can?

midlandsmumof4 · 28/11/2010 00:19

That was to the Op because I haven't read all of the posts...sorry Sad.

Kaloki · 28/11/2010 00:19

In which case the director is the only one saying it. No one on here has said that it's a fair point - just that it is what the director is claiming. And that no one can say for certain that this claim is true or false without seeing the film.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 28/11/2010 00:20

"...because they are expressing the only content that exists in their sick fuck minds..."

Sweeping generalisation, anyone? This from a woman who claims to respect men?

Kaloki · 28/11/2010 00:20

No one in this thread is defending the director. No one has faith in the director (unless you count having faith in the fact that the film will be shit)

midlandsmumof4 · 28/11/2010 00:23

So....stop promoting it then by commenting Sad. End it now.

...didn't want to read the synopsis, hearing that the movie had to be cut further, and reading all the shock about sexual violence-- i feel thats enough to possibly shelf this movie.

i can't be the only one whose stomach churns at the phrase 'sexual violence' ...
