ok so yesterday i had the most embarassing day of my life ever. Rushing through primark to get to boots to get some nappies for dd.dd and ds in the double buggy.

i get half way through the doors out of primark and am aproached by a security guard. to my embarassment ds, age 2,had grabbed a pair of mens boxers Blush and i hadnt realised.

i explained to the security man that i had no idea he had them and offered to pay for any damages caused. he then went on to say he would have to call the police as shoplifting is an offence Blush.

i still cant quite beleive it. i was arrested for shop lifting :(

AIBU in thinking this is over the top? if they had had checked the cctv they would have seen that i had no idea ds had the pants!

No YANBU at all. That's ridiculous.

BonniePrinceBilly · 26/11/2010 13:14

Are you serious? If so, don't accept a caution, go to court and let it get thrown out. What morons they are.

memoo · 26/11/2010 13:15

Yery uncalled for! My dd did a similar thing last week, it was only when we were in another store that I realised she was clutching a pair of socks. went back to the shop to pay for them, i was so embaressed but the lady in the shop found it quite funny

MardyBra · 26/11/2010 13:15

Well technically you left the shop with unpaid for goods, so they need to follow it up. But when they do check the cctv they should see what happened, and hopefully you will be exonerated.

Ealingkate · 26/11/2010 13:15

Did they actually take you down to the station with the LOs??

armani · 26/11/2010 13:15

yes im serious :( i have never felt so humiliated :(

that is ridiculous. you should complain.

out of interest what did the police say did you actually get arrested i would have thought they wouldn't have bothered with this and would see it was a waste of their time?

sethstarkaddersmum · 26/11/2010 13:16

yanbu.
you must be really shaken, hope you're ok.

MardyBra · 26/11/2010 13:16

Were the boxers in Ds's hands when the security guard stopped you?

armani · 26/11/2010 13:17

no kate i had to phone my dp to come and collect them from primark :(

ShatnersBassoon · 26/11/2010 13:17

I'm amazed the police bothered arresting you.

armani · 26/11/2010 13:17

yes mardy,he had them on top of his blanket with the tag snapped off.

I am stunned they would arrest you. My cousin has mental health issues and has been caught shoplifting in the past. On one occasion the shop imposed a fine on her and the police were not contacted at all, on the second occasion the police attended the shop and gave her a simple caution.

I would be contacting Primark HQ and asking to speak to a manager about your treatment.

stropicana · 26/11/2010 13:18

Shock Angry That is a bloody disgrace, you should think about going to the papers.

MardyBra · 26/11/2010 13:18

shame he snapped off the tag

have you asked the police to check the cameras?

InVinoFerretsAss · 26/11/2010 13:18

Seriously, they believe that you would risk being arrested with two small children in tow for a pair of undies??

The world has gone mad.

MardyBra · 26/11/2010 13:18

got to go, but good luck op

jessiealbright · 26/11/2010 13:19

Well, if it was the two year old who took them, our criminal age of responsibility is ten...

I think you might need a solicitor though, if Primark are going to embark on a private prosecution.

rastababi · 26/11/2010 13:19

YANBU, totally ridiculous Shock

Sadly if you were arrested then it will stick with you now, irrelevant if it even leads to a charge or not.

stropicana · 26/11/2010 13:20

Bllody hell what has the world come to? GRRR.

matildarosepink · 26/11/2010 13:21

I agree. Speak to the management and ask to see any camera footage asap. Email the head office with your complaints too. It's not as if you'd concealed some hideously expensive item in your underwear!! This is farcical.

I had a friend who shopped with her twins in their buggy once, and when she got home and took the kids' coats off, she found the inside pockets full of toothbrushes!! Grin

patienceplease · 26/11/2010 13:22

I would be very suprised if this gets much further - the legal definition of theft is taking property "with intent to permanently deprive" and you obviously were not doing that...

jillhastwoponies · 26/11/2010 13:27

Don't accept a caution, it stays on your record, affects you if you want to teach, go to America on holiday...
