Whilst I accept that some clothes cannot be worn past a certain age I was suprised to be told by a younger colleague at work Converse should not be worn past 35 (I had just purchased a new pair during lunch) at 50 I am banned from Converse it seems. AIBU to be Confused

Retort with "And judging peoples shoe choice should not be done past 17". Wear what you like. Converse are bloody comfy.

pippibluestocking · 24/11/2010 23:07

Rubbish - bought my first pair at 43!

pippibluestocking · 24/11/2010 23:08

She'll feel differently when she hits 35

newwave · 24/11/2010 23:11

Trouble is I have to watch my "mutton" tendancy at times, still like to wear narrow jeans and T's from Top Shop and Hennes.

Mu aunt just turned 60 and she still wears skinny jeans and Converse. I think you're safe newwave!

NeverEatYellowTaintedSnow · 24/11/2010 23:20

My aunt even, not mu! Blush

pippibluestocking · 24/11/2010 23:21

A colleague say that it's better to be mutton dressed as lamb than mutton dressed as mutton

newwave · 24/11/2010 23:22

Yellow & Pippi, thank you :)

Shes an idiot. Im sure I've often seen the Rolling Stones in Converse!

TrillianAstra · 24/11/2010 23:27

Is she the fashion police? I think not.

pagwatch · 24/11/2010 23:30

I would never wear them but I don't wear jeans.
It isn't about what you wear as much as how you wear it

Very good TSC!

newwave · 24/11/2010 23:32

ah,whitney dressed as britney, exactly my point although I suspect I am in better trim than Whitney.

I will follow the positive advice though

I was in the postoffice the other day and an old lady (and we're talking 80-odd) came up to me all excited - she said "oooh I bought a cardigan just like yours yesterday"

thanks Hmm

No chance of mutton here then.

Mammie81 · 24/11/2010 23:34

Which Converse are they? Because I've often had to talk my mum out of the silver & gold ones which are BLURGH on anyone regardless of age!

SheWillBeLoved · 24/11/2010 23:35

Only worry when you start looking like this

Until then, tell them to feck orf. They're probably just threatened that one of their 'older' colleagues dress better than themselves.

newwave · 24/11/2010 23:36

Plain black with white trim although I have a green pair as well

StuffingGoldBrass · 24/11/2010 23:36

WHy on earth should you take any notice of this sort of thing? I wear exactly what I like (and my dress sense has always triggered a certain amount of, um, negative reactions, either namecalling and mockery or people kindly taking me to one side and offering to give me a makeover) I'm almost 46 and still wear Spandex, big boots, miniskirts or whatever when I feel like it. COnformity in dress is for wimps.

pippibluestocking · 24/11/2010 23:39

Just bought my 1st pair of skinnies at 44. I feel great- may be a mid- life crisis but it's damned more fun than watching myself morph into my mother in law!

Mammie81 · 24/11/2010 23:40

They are the same as my ones! Go for it, I love mine!

Although I cant imaginethis did much for the sales of Nike though...

newwave · 24/11/2010 23:41

Pippi, 44 is the new 30 which is great as I am now 36 :o I like your attitude

OP posts:
pippibluestocking · 24/11/2010 23:43

Same as mine too, they're so comfortable aren't they - pretend they're hush puppies if it makes you feel better!

pippibluestocking · 24/11/2010 23:49

36 is practically new born, just don't look at the ageing thread that is in active convos ATM if you want to avoid descending into depression! Now must gather up my pipe and slippers and get to my bed!
