...by the 6 weeks that follow?

I remember sitting on the loo when DD was about 5 weeks old, she was screaming to be fed, i hurt all over, feeling disgusting and hating my ruined body oozing everywhere with sore bits and being pretty fed up TBH.

So, im 39 weeks, and I have started to dread the next bit... people keep phoning me (WHY do they think that it's ok to do this??) and asking if Ive had the baby yet... and Im dreading going for a wee and it making me cry.

Or that first poo.

Oh... heck

Lansinoh also doubles up as a fabulous lip balm. Grin

pinkdelight · 25/11/2010 08:39

Up until emo76 I was loving this thread! Am 34 weeks with DS2 and dreading it like the OP. But all these stories of second time around are so hopeful and reassuring, esp after a nasty midwife barked at me that 'it's worst second time, much more pain, anyone who says it's easier is talking rubbish'!!! Well tho I'm sure it's not easier for everyone, all you lot can't be wrong.

OnlyWantsOne · 25/11/2010 08:41

cocodamol pain killer of choice? ok with breast feeding?

no no no to co codamol - will make you constipated!

TheUnmentioned · 25/11/2010 08:52

arnica tablets

lansinoh DEFINITELY

orange juice

cranberry juice

lots of your favourite food

all the maternity pad / breast pads stuff (buy more maternity pads than you think you will ever need)

paracetamol

peppermint water / tea / mints with real peppermint extract

Pootles2010 · 25/11/2010 08:55

Get some Lactulose from your midwife. I admitted to being terrified of first poo, so she got me some prescribed, helps lots! Try leaning right forward when you pee, keeps the wee away from the sore area.

ohforfoxsake · 25/11/2010 09:00

The thought of it is definately more scary the second time round, but not actually as bad.

Good luck.

PrematureEjoculation · 25/11/2010 09:14

it was easier second time.

and that time goes in no time at all in a blur of cbeebies and baths.

why do you feel you have to go to you in-laws for xmas? hope its not far - if so YWNBBU to stay at home.

PaulineMole · 25/11/2010 09:29

dd2 is 4 weeks
her birth was harder than dd1's, but recovery has been loads easier. i was on lactulose from my due date though Smile.

PrematureEjoculation · 25/11/2010 09:34

i fiund eating oranges/ clementines made the whole poo thing much easier...but start before you give birth.

if your first was in hospital it is possible your second at home will be less painful and distressing.

OnlyWantsOne · 25/11/2010 09:36

mmm..maybe shall be less filled with utter dread.

Have sent DP the link to this thread btw... in the hope that he will realise and be aware and perhaps put his own cup in the dish washer ;)

OnlyWantsOne · 25/11/2010 09:37

yanbu. That's the only good thing about being a first time mum - you don't know what you're getting yourself into!

seeker · 25/11/2010 09:45

I had my first poo after dd while the Queen's Speech was on on Christmas Day.

I'd never been much of a Royalist, but since then I'd be happy to man the guillotine!

Oh God, I was hoping to avoid thinking about birth and the aftermath. DD is 3 and I'm nearly 15wks with baby 2. The first poo wasn't so bad for me, it happened about 6hrs after labour so I think I was still on a high. Peeing, on the other hand, was horrendous - I felt like I was urinating shards of glass for weeks. I think the worst was the baby blues, coupled with extreme tiredness and a very aching body - I was in labour for 53hrs so I was pretty knackered anyway.

Hoping and praying that the second time is easier...

catwhiskers10 · 25/11/2010 10:39

I have only been through it once but I had an episiotomy, forceps delivery, internal & external stitches and I was fine after the birth, a bit of discomfort sitting down but not bad enough for painkillers or anything so maybe you will be OK second time round.

bearcrumble · 25/11/2010 11:04

Listen - I know I keep banging on about this but get the disposable incontinece pants with built in pad in the gusset (sorry for saying gusset) - much comfier and less easy to dislodge than pads you put in your knickers.
