Or as you wish. DP has had a knackered old van parked in the city where we used to live for over a year. He nearly got around to selling it about six months ago, was offered 550 (it had 6 month's MOT). Since then, I've had to renew the tax which had actually run out (I spotted the letter in the post) as I could have been towed. But he didn't quite manage to get round to closing the deal, and the van continued to grace a private road (no doubt annoying the neighbours as it's not exactly a chariot of gold). We just moved and need a dishwasher and tumble dryer, so I said to him I would sell it for him and use the money for that. He agreed. The MOT runs out at the end of November. I stuck it in a car mag for 400. He was a bit cross and said it was worth 500 which it probably is. I reminded him that was with 6 month's MOT. Then I got really bad flu so instead of going up there on the train (£20) and hanging around with DS (14 months and steaming around like a train) for viewings, and with one week before the MOT expired, I mailed the keys to a guy who sounded serious about buying it. He went round, started it with jump leads (not be driven for a year) and offered me 350 because someone has daubed graffiti over one said and it will cost a bit to be resprayed.

So I just told DP I got 350 and he hit the roof.

He is being a complete arse - he should have got off his lazy backside and sold it himself if he was going to quibble over the price. Just tell him he's bloody lucky to have got that for it! You are both fortunate that the neighbours didn't get it towed away as it's sat there that long - being a complete eye sore for them!

I think you took a bit of a risk posting some keys to a stranger, but given that he has not just nicked it, then I think it's probably a fair deal. It may have graffiti on it, it might just be looking and feeling a bit sh!tter than it was when you last saw it.

Nope. You want to look for LeQueen's threads about her husband's BMW. There's something to do with a vehicle being abandoned, and someone else writing to the police/DVLA and asking to claim it. So, at some point in the last year, someone else could have claimed and driven the van off without your DH getting anything from it.

If he was so bothered about it, he should have done something about it. At least you got a reasonable sum for it (without having to tax/MOT it again).

Quite. The thing is, I could have turned him down, then arranged to meet all the other interested parties on Friday, freezing my netties off with DS and his runny nose, next to a horrible obscenity-daubed jalopy. Not a good look.

Plus the train fare, getting the keys back from the bloke, etc.

To Op's DP, if you want something doing your way do it yourself, if someone is prepared to do it for you quit moaning.

Littleomar, unless he pays he won't be the legal owner as I have the registration docs and logbook etc. So he'd be driving a stolen vehicle. Should be ok I think. He's been pretty straight on the phone.
