DP says I screwed up. Please tell me I didn't!

Or as you wish. DP has had a knackered old van parked in the city where we used to live for over a year. He nearly got around to selling it about six months ago, was offered 550 (it had 6 month's MOT). Since then, I've had to renew the tax which had actually run out (I spotted the letter in the post) as I could have been towed. But he didn't quite manage to get round to closing the deal, and the van continued to grace a private road (no doubt annoying the neighbours as it's not exactly a chariot of gold). We just moved and need a dishwasher and tumble dryer, so I said to him I would sell it for him and use the money for that. He agreed. The MOT runs out at the end of November. I stuck it in a car mag for 400. He was a bit cross and said it was worth 500 which it probably is. I reminded him that was with 6 month's MOT. Then I got really bad flu so instead of going up there on the train (£20) and hanging around with DS (14 months and steaming around like a train) for viewings, and with one week before the MOT expired, I mailed the keys to a guy who sounded serious about buying it. He went round, started it with jump leads (not be driven for a year) and offered me 350 because someone has daubed graffiti over one said and it will cost a bit to be resprayed.

So I just told DP I got 350 and he hit the roof.

And to think some illustrious university gave him a doctorate in logic! I must remember to give the surfaces a good wipe down with that certificate one day....

But what's wrong with posting the keys to someone? I sent them registered to his home address. If he took the car and didn't pay, I still have the registration docs, and it would be a very simple case to solve.

I would actually be pleased about the "your machines" jibe, as if you do ever split (touch wood), they will be yours, not his (because "his" car "paid£" for them!). Grin

Mamateur Great move :)

You don't need to buy the appliances immediately do you??? Grin Leave it - see what he does about selling it... I'd go as far as letting him get the train up there and seeing that the car isn't there & suggsting that maybe it was towed & crushed. Also see what he says/does about MOT/Registration etc etc etc

I would suggest spending it all on a spa weekend for yourself - but I'm guessing that you actually need the appliances more :(

Each time you look at your new appliances Hmm instead of being cross about his reaction - you can think of us and have a smug Grin

A Doctorate in LOGIC Fucking hell - who was he shagging bribing?

The only thing wrong with sending the keys is that, weirdly, the documents do not prove ownership and he would have the keys... but I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and anyway that's not what DH is pissy about (yet anyway!!).

I am still astounded that he didn't tell you that you are a star and give you a big sloppy kiss - twunt.

mamateur- I don't know! :) It just made me nervous to think about, but you're right about the documents etc of course.

mamateur · 24/11/2010 17:48

thanks to everyone who posted. DP has apologised for being a knobjockey and so I confessed I did sell the van. The buyer has put the money in my account already.

I'm still waiting for the star on my chart though!

It had better be real gold nice :)

I'm glad the buyer has put the money in your account already!

I know you want a Dishwasher & Dryer, not a WM but I have just bought a washing machine from Boots (Yes - Boots?!) I did it online/phone (after looking at it in comet) the price was good, they can deliver tomorrow and they were nice to deal with - but the best part is the 'contribution' (insurance!) it's only £5.99 a month and covers any & all repairs (except malicious damage/minor scratches) and a replacement machine when it's no longer worth repairing (not sure exactly what their definition is on 'worth repairing though). It can be cancelled anytime... I think it's FAB.

Thanks Chipping! The problem we have is we're living in my old flat which has been rented out to tenants. I bought them a brand new washing machine last year, but it doesn't have a dryer. So I was thinking it would be easier to buy a separate dryer as there's room, rather than have to get rid of a new machine and have a new washer dryer installed. Unless somewhere did a good trade in, but I think those deals are usually a bit rubbish and aimed at v. old machine whereas this one's an almost new zanussi.

Also, will definite need malicious damage cover on the insurance, DS pushes every button he sees with glee Grin

Sorry - I meant that I thought they were worth looking at for the appliances you do need

I think you are always better off with a separate washer & dryer if you have the space - the combo's just don't compare and you can only use it for one function at a time. I did, briefly, consider a WD as several people on here thought there's were pretty good - but in the end decided just to go for a washer. I don't really have room for a dryer - but I barely used it when I did have one - so I'm sure I'll cope! (I can turn one of the rooms into a hot house with a heater if necessary Grin)
