To feel unusually warm towards Arsenal FC?

So, the other week I got into a bit of a strop in the Arsenal shop. DD went to get her surname put on the back of her Arsenal shirt with her birthday money and was told she'd have to pay for 2 surnames because hers was too long - it's mine and dh's with a space in between - 11 letters and a space. It's £6 for the name on the back of your shirt, so £12 for two which is pretty steep we thought. So we left with me in a fury crying rip-off, discrimination against long surnames etc and dd rather sad.

I contacted the chief exec of Arsenal, as you do and he explained politely that the policy is to print up to 12 letters for £6.

So I replied saying:
"First our surname has 11 letters and a space - so not sure why they wanted to charge me twice?
Secondly on that basis should you charge per additional letter - e.g. plus £1 per additional letter rather than another £6 (£12 in total) if you happen to have a 13 letter name and thirdly, if you are charging on basis of the number of letters, why aren't short names cheaper - eg if it was Rob, shouldn't I expect to pay less?

All in all I think it would be nicer to charge on the basis of a surname is a fixed price - no discrimination against feminists who go for both parental names! - and seems less officious/ un fan friendly to me."

And his reply (on the same day):
"We agree and are changing our policy to a fixed price regardless of length of name. We'll be the first among clubs to adopt this policy!"

Hoorah - I'm not a Gooner but I think that's a pretty top response from Mr Ivan Gazidis. So, good for Arsenal - and only a couple of days after they lost at home to Tottenham too Grin.

Well we should think about football stuff shouldn't we - I mean it's not like Roman needs to charge all that!

and the kits and the names on the back and the football league/champions league badges. Seriously a kit for me 8 year old with all the trimmings is about £70 - probably costs about £1.50 to make in China...
