the blind date woman - said that her date should have offered to pay for her taxi. grrrr. bloody whipper snappers (she was 24-ish) undoing the hard work of so many others.

OP posts:

Yes. What on earth? She sounded vile. Lucky escape for the guy, who should consider a more mature woman with a fuller figure (I thought he seemed very attractive nice and polite)

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 20/11/2010 22:38

And judging by their job titles she probably earned more than him too.

lalalonglegs · 20/11/2010 22:39

I was astonished by that - especially as it sounds as if she has a better-paid job than he does.

I get really bored with the way every week they say that they had "a great time but there was no real spark/connection/chemistry but I'd meet again as friends". I was quite disappointed as Oliver really seemed to have taken a shine to her this week (although rereading it there may be a hint of sarcasm in some of his responses...Hmm)

SueP, Buying the Mail will send you to Hell, that is a well known fact :)

SuePurblybiltByElves · 20/11/2010 22:46

No, I am killing them with kindness. Single parent buys Mail shocker.
Anyway, I like a laugh Grin

newwave · 20/11/2010 22:48

Didnt know single parents were allowed to buy the Mail :o

pigletmania · 20/11/2010 22:48

YANBU that is just rude and grabby. However I do like an old fashioned gentleman, open doors for me, give me his coat when cold, open car door for me. Men nowadays do lack these good old fahsioned manners I am afraid.

SuePurblybiltByElves · 20/11/2010 22:52

Grin Do you think they'll confiscate it? I'm a student too.

newwave · 20/11/2010 22:55

Dear God, hide it quick or the SU will lynch you. :o

edam · 20/11/2010 22:58

I thought it was very odd. Must have missed out on some dating ettiquette that has developed in the past couple of decades while I've been with dh but would never have occurred to me that a man should pay for my cab home - wtf?

scottishmummy · 20/11/2010 22:59

do you have an impairment prevents you opening doors, getting your own coat?chi chi rules and moribund proclamations a decent man would do this and that

if a man make you smile,feel secure,positive regard?then hes a keeper

i dont need door held open.not a biggie

SpringHeeledJack · 20/11/2010 23:01

I was so Shock at this I dropped the mag

particularly as she was a management consultant, or something

...maybe she was only joking

newwave · 20/11/2010 23:01

SM, not needed but it is nice

UnquietDad · 20/11/2010 23:05

If somebody had set me up on a blind date for a newspaper article and we "didn't really click" I'd never want to see the person again... It amazes me how many of them say "oh, we'll stay in touch as friends." Used to happen on Blind Date the TV show too.

UnquietDad · 20/11/2010 23:07

Also, if he HAD offered to pay for the cab, you can bet he'd have got one who said

"bloody chauvinist, blah blah blah, offered to pay for my cab, bloody cheek, does he think this is the 1950s, etc., etc., whinge, whinge..."

Can't win :)

pigletmania · 20/11/2010 23:09

Well I do scottishmummy, I am an old fashioned girl, nothing off putting than having a door slammed in face. Nothing wrong with good old fashioned manners sorry thats the way I feel. I would not expect the man to pay for my cab home though.

pigletmania · 20/11/2010 23:11

wouldent have said no to the cab being paid, or meal out on the first date though, but would never have asked. Nothing nicer than a man opening a car door for you, making sure you are seated and closing it for you. No my dh does not do that, but my dad used to for my mum, and so does my friends husband who is of the older generation.

SpringHeeledJack · 20/11/2010 23:12

UQD- maybe "we'll stay in touch as friends" is Polite Code for "I really couldn't staaaaand the cunt"

edam · 20/11/2010 23:18

Letters page of the mag today has someone who claims they are a couple who met on the blind date pages and are now living together. Which would be sweet but I think it mentions the bloke scratching his balls. Kind of cancels the niceness out.

kittya · 20/11/2010 23:21

I cant stand the Lauren Luke make up guide in it. The make up always looks crap.

scottishmummy · 20/11/2010 23:23

i dont carry a pomander and dont rate men by door opening

ChaoticChristmasAngelCrackers · 20/11/2010 23:26

Until a couple of days ago I was a member of eharmony which has a section where it publishes 'articles' that members can comment on. There were a couple that were about who paid for the first date and there were quite a few women who thought the man should pay Hmm

scottishmummy · 20/11/2010 23:29

does anyone actually expect man to pay on date?i dont and i would insist on pay my share

MonkeySee · 20/11/2010 23:32

Load of rubbish. I have had this happen to me once. I was slightly astonished and just waved my oyster card. I don't think he'd seen one before.

Think she had maybe seen Breakfast at Tiffanys one too many times and missed how Holly actually makes the money for the powder room.
