to believe that most people who regularly use the Talk section of Mumsnet know, or have met, at least some of the others in RL

I don't know anyone on MN in RL.

I get the impression that many people who regularly post in talk either know one or two (sometimes many more) posters in RL, or have at least met them at MN events/get-togethers.

I think it's lovely but for some stupid reason it makes me feel a bit Envy. This is utterly ridiculous as I have lovely friends in RL.

Am I right though? I'm curious - do most people 'know' other MNers?

I have met some MNetters in RL but I know 4 in RL that I see on a regular bases

WhatsWrongWithYou · 20/11/2010 21:42

For me, it's not that I wouldn't like to meet people necessarily, but meet-ups I've seen mentioned from lurking on my Local threads seem to revolve around getting together with toddlers, which I no longer have, plus I assume that would make me much older than the others.

There was a meet-up in a wine bar recently, but tbh I'd die of embarrassment if someone I knew saw me in there and I had to explain that I was meeting my imaginary friends!

Oooh, and I know you, SlightlyJaded- didn't I waffle on on a thread of yours in Pedants' Corner this week?

Words on a screen

Yep that's me. I do like it that way. I don't really want to be known in RL.

2shoes · 20/11/2010 21:55

I have met some lovely people on mn piss ups meet ups, we don't do the kids bit so good fun,
but tbh I don't chat that much to them on mn as we post in different bits.

Alouiseg · 20/11/2010 21:57

I was outed by FellatioNelson, we knew each other from a previous school.

We walk the dogs together now and discuss you all, intimately :o

CristinaTheAstonishing · 20/11/2010 22:04

SJ - the Xmas party starts at 8. I'm sure you'll be done with the tombola and clear-up by then. Change into something nice and come along.

Showaddywaddy · 20/11/2010 22:05

BoF, it was only organised today. And you'd be soooo welcome. I'm taking alcohol orders atm. Gin and vodka are featuring heavily.

I just assume that other people have lives on NYE. One of the MNers is coming from Scouseland though so you could stowaway in her boot.

PJ and LG&T are coming to stay.

Alouiseg · 20/11/2010 22:06

whatswrongwirhyou

I feel exactly the same!!

Showaddywaddy · 20/11/2010 22:06

And er by party I mean Gin and Pink are coming to stay, I will ply them with alcohol and film them dancing badly to Wham. That sort of thing. It's not a party, it's a cry for help.

scottishmummy · 20/11/2010 22:08

haha its a self fulfilling prophecy.you do all know each other in rl as op said

tiredemma · 20/11/2010 22:08

No. I bumped into one at a BBQ once (and kicked the 6 pack of fruit shoot under the table, out of sight as we chatted)- but no, never met anyone else in RL

BitOfFun · 20/11/2010 22:12

Cry for help? I love it Grin

Yes, I may stow away. I imagine that it could be difficult to offload stash a rather wriggly dd2 though, so I forgive you. I can't promise that I won't investigate the possibilities though...

SoMuchToBits · 20/11/2010 22:17

I only know a couple of people here in RL - and they only post rarely, even less than me, and I'm not a particularly prolific poster.

I have made a few "friends" on here though! Smile I don't post all that much, but have got to know a few people from particular threads (a couple of local ones, and mostly stuff like Playmobil threads, where the same (friendly) posters often pop up!) I do now feel quite at home here, even though a lot of people probably have no idea who I am!

Memoo · 20/11/2010 22:31

LisaD, are your sisters on here?

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 20/11/2010 22:32

yes misdee and SparklyGothKat why?

SuePurblybiltByElves · 20/11/2010 22:34

I have never been invited to a MN party Sad Being in deepest Devon I am thinking of starting my own festival. MN Unlatched. All welcome chez the Purblybilt garden (mind the chicken poo and my cuttings bed please). Music by local wannabes and dropouts. Sea Shanties may feature, as will drunken women singing earnestly. All welcome.

Memoo · 20/11/2010 22:34

no reason, I knew that misdee's sisters were on here and couldn't remember if it was you or not, just checking my spreadsheet is up to date Grin

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 20/11/2010 22:34

do i know you in RL Memoo?

Memoo · 20/11/2010 22:36

No i don' think so, sorry have I offended you?

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 20/11/2010 22:38

no not in the slightest Grin Im not worried

Showaddywaddy · 20/11/2010 22:38

Ooh Sue, can I come? I sing a mean shanty. I'll bring me fiddle and bodhran.

BoF the offer stands. I would be happy to have you. Wink In fact everybody can come. Norfolk for an internet pixie's 30th. Ooh the lure.

SoMuchToBits · 20/11/2010 22:40

I have also never been to a proper big MN meet-up or party. I reckon most people would be sooooo disappointed in the RL me they would never chat to me on MN again! Blush

It may be better to retain my anonymity to some extent....
