to move Cameron up slightly (albeit from a VERY lowly starting point) in my estimation for his reaction to Lord Young?

Every time I hear the radio quote him saying 'he wasn't speaking for the government and he'll be doing rather less speaking in future' I do a little Grin.

I think it shows wit and lack of tolerance for Tory bollocks, and I usually HATE the man!

Hi fellow merkin
I agree (grudgingly)

Indaba · 19/11/2010 15:57

What had Lord Young said?

Sorry: am overseas so missed the news.

30andMerkin · 19/11/2010 16:03

Sorry Indaba, his most inflamatory quote was:
"for the vast majority in the country today, they have never had it so good ever since this recession ? this so-called recession ? started?.

Which obviously goes down brilliantly with people who've been made redundant/facing repossession/concerned about benefit cuts/graduating with massive debts and unable to find a job... etc etc.

See, normally i'd totally agree Riven, but I just thought his response had something about it - the strange sound of genuine emotion perhaps Hmm?!

Thats offensive and uncalled for Pelvicfloortrauma

mumblechum · 19/11/2010 16:42

I don't think DC would have let it go, actually, Riven.

I voted labour myself, but even I don't think that all Tories are greedy selfish twats. I think that Labour was a bit daft to put so many people onto benefits like tax credits that it added to the housing boom.

30andMerkin · 19/11/2010 16:43

Blimey. My first AIBU and I've started a slanging match bunfight.

Unrulysun · 19/11/2010 16:43

YABU - DC is overseeing the dismantling of the Welfare State and, while I sympathise with your surprise at anything which apparently ameliorates his utter egregiousness, he is, nonetheless, a total grade A cunt. :)

mumblechum · 19/11/2010 16:43

Blimey I've never seen a message being deleted that fast!

Truly Riven, thou art Mumsnet Royalty Grin

PelvicFloorTrauma · 19/11/2010 16:47

Wow "offensive and uncalled for". You should have seen my first attempt! I'll throw it out to a wider audience then and perhaps you would like to consider my question instead - How does Riven know what they all think? (A) Is she/ he telepathic? Or (B) is he/ she omnicient? Or (C) simply spewing out socialist dogma. Tough question to answer, I admit. I think I am going to opt for answer C

PelvicFloorTrauma · 19/11/2010 16:48

Or perhaps the answer should be that Riven in fact works for MN.

I don't get all this evil tories rhetoric that some people use about the government and the cuts. They're not optional, there is a very broad consensus that the deficit cannot be ignored and needs to be adressed and the Government is doing this. Of course its not nice and some people will lose out but we can't just ignore it and hope it goes away

30andMerkin · 19/11/2010 16:51

unruly, you've got me.

IABU.

Bear anyone?

OP posts:
PelvicFloorTrauma · 19/11/2010 16:54

The point BTP is that I am not pretending to know what they think. And why on earth are you warning me about "bullying" Riven? Does he or she have an army?

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/11/2010 16:55

lol at 'and yes to a and b' Grin

JennyHaniver · 19/11/2010 16:55

I thought he sounded pretty pissed off.

Unrulysun · 19/11/2010 17:01

He probably is Jenny - they're not supposed to talk about Fight Club (in this case Fight Club used ironically as a metaphor for evil Tory plans)

Bear
JennyHaniver · 19/11/2010 17:05

Fight Club? Grin

ccpccp · 19/11/2010 17:06

Cameron is keeping some of the more vocal elements of his party in line, thats for sure.

Trouble is - everything Lord Young said was true. He was a tad flippant about it, but true all the same.

I didnt know the cuts only took us back to 2007 levels. What the fuk is all the whining about?

JennyHaniver · 19/11/2010 17:09

That's interesting ccpccp - where did you get that info from?
