"You may now kiss the bride"

All this talk of weddings has reminded my of my own. At the practice I specifically asked the priest not to say "YMNKTB". Firstly because I think snogging in church is tacky and secondly because I think it is up to me and my husband whether (and when) we kiss.

He still said it though - I just gave hubby a kiss on the cheek.

Was I unreasonable?

Totally up to you. Personally, I LOVED that bit. Not so much now, though Grin

fairycake123 · 18/11/2010 10:59

Exactly, kerry. How you kiss in public on your wedding day = how you fuck. Everyone knows that.

Bramshott · 18/11/2010 10:59

Would "you may now shag the bride" have been better?

LornMowa · 18/11/2010 11:02

Exactly, kerry. How you kiss in public on your wedding day = how you fuck. Everyone knows that.

I can assure you that in our case there is no correlation! Wink

lol. Our priest wouldn't say it, as it's not in the service and he witheringly declared it to be an americanism. I was quite disappointed, but then I am quite tacky.

are you married kerry?

LoudRowdyDuck · 18/11/2010 11:09

It's a bit odd though, isn't it? My mate got the vicar to say 'you may now kiss each other' and I thought that was nicer. Otherwise whenever I hear it I'm thinking, 'c'mon, I'm pretty sure he knows 'the bride's' name by now!'.

Anyone who doesn't wear a transparent backless lace wedding dress with inbuilt pushup bra is a ridiculous frigid prude and shouldn't bother getting married in the first place. I mean marriage is about sex so why try and pretend that it isn't?

I'm sorry but it is simply ridiculous in my opinion.

whatdoiknowanyway · 18/11/2010 11:14

it's tacky, inappropriate and drawn from watching too many american films.
IMO :)

I can't remember what the priest said but when we did have a (chaste) kiss everyone clapped. Now that was quite weird.

fairycake123 · 18/11/2010 11:22

Oh my God Kerry that is so weird!! I also have 100% accurate insight into people's sex lives based on... well, fuck all. Spooooooky!!

Do you ever hide behind people's curtains to verify your predictions? I used to but I don't bother any more because the first 20 times I was absolutely spot on.

JaniceSoprano · 18/11/2010 11:23

kerry you are talking out of your arse.
some people dont like being watched/ commented on by people - in fact a lot of people elope for that reason

Rannaldini · 18/11/2010 11:23

I think the kiss the bride thing can be unbearably naff with sometimes really inappropriate displays (like american senators who have been caught cheating)

do what you want

jumpingbeans · 18/11/2010 11:23

x post there

also don't think it has any bearing on your sex life at all
weird to imagine that it would imo

fairycake123 · 18/11/2010 11:28

Kerry I am sorry if I come across as aggressive and mad but truly this subject gets me hot under the collar!

I mean people doing what makes them comfortable on their wedding day? Especially when it is something utterly innoccuous?

ARSEHOLES! I AM BEING PERFECTLY SINCERE.
