DS spends alternate weeks with me and ex, turnover day being Friday after school.

DS went to school today and ex was supposed to pick him up (as usual).

I started wondering where were they as they always come by to pick up DS's Nintendo ds and few other bits and pieces.

I get a phone call from ex at 5.20 (50 minutes after pick up time) screaming at me that he tought we have agreed that there was no school today.

There was a public holiday yesterday, so no school, but I've never talked to him about not sending DS today Hmm.

I mean, why would you even get such an idea?

So poor DS was waiting outside of school, thank God he had enough sense to go back to school and the head called ex. I think DS waited for a long time outside.

Anyway, it can happen to anyone to forget what time it is and be late for pick up, perhaps, but inventing such a ridiculous story to cover up your fuck up?

Ex is a bit of an abusive twat anyway, but have been doing my utmost to have civilised relationship with him, as he's DS's father yada yada yada.

So, AIBU to be pissed off?

They just came by and DS said he was waiting outside for ages. Grrr. Ex said 'oh, well, I thought there would be no school today', no remorse whatsoever and hostile. Grrr.

Come on, tell me, am I overreacting?

Nah, not at all. He screwed up and is pissed off and taking it out on you. He is probably hung over from yesterday's holiday (guessing) and forgot. He's definitely in the wrong.

Cartoose · 12/11/2010 16:46

YANBU. It's a horrible cold rainy day outside Angry. Your Ex doesn't even seem to care. If I were that late picking up my DS from school I'd be falling over myself apologising.

winnybella · 12/11/2010 16:51

Well, I did say that it was quite a fuck up (out od DS's earshot, obviously) and he said 'What,do I need to apologise to you,or to the head? I already apologised to DS". Technically true, I guess, but AngryWell, he should apologise to the head as I'm sure he's got other things to do than calling up parents who don't turn up. Hope he did.

YANBU but more for his reaction than the fact he made a mistake.

People make mistakes but a grown-up would admit it and apologise rather than trying to shift the blame onto others.

winnybella · 12/11/2010 16:57

But how can come to the conclusion that there would be no school today? Why?

I just feel he totally forgot to pick him up and then came up with that excuse, iyswim.

cumfy · 12/11/2010 19:25

So what was the alternative plan ? Allegedly.

booyhoo · 12/11/2010 19:28

all he had to do was ring and check. and yes i agree with cumfy. if he thought there was no school, why hadn't he turned up at your house to collect him?

cumfy · 12/11/2010 19:36

However.....

How come:

  1. Your post is 16:37
  1. You say I get a phone call from ex at 5.20 (50 minutes after pick up time) ie 17:20

Do you have a crystal ball ?

Originally I thought MN was still on BST; but have just double-checked.

Are you still on BST ?

Waltons · 12/11/2010 19:46

X post cumfy!

hairytriangle · 12/11/2010 19:46

Suck it up. You had a child with him. Perhaps he made a genuine mistake.

booyhoo · 12/11/2010 19:48

hairy, genuine mistake or not, there was no need for him to scream at her.

booyhoo · 12/11/2010 19:49

or does conceiving a child automatically entitle him to mistreat and abuse her however he sees fit? has she made her bed and therefore must lie in it?

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 12/11/2010 19:51

Yes, if he honestly thought there was no school , why wasn't he round yours instead picking up ?

winnybella · 12/11/2010 20:11

I'm in Paris Smile- we're an hour ahead.

OP posts:
booyhoo · 12/11/2010 20:13

WB i think you should text him saying, "if you though there was no school, why didn't you arrange an alternative pick up with me?"

that way he will no you know he was lying to cover his mistake. and yes he's an arsehole for speaking to you like that.

There was no reason for him to think that there was no school today.

He was one hour late when he called me, blaming me for the fact that it is a school day today.

He then went to pick up DS and came by here and was quite nasty.

DS had to wait outside for a hile, it's cold and rainy and DS was scared (bit sensitive).

Sure we all make mistakes, but I'm not convinced by his excuses plus no need to be rude and blame me for something I had nothing to do with.

And 11 november is fete de la signature de l'armistice en 1918.

Thank you for saying IANBU- I wondered for a second whether I was.

And DS went back to school- but what if he decided to walk back home (we're both quite close to school)? Plenty of busy roads to cross

Oh well.

Hairy- I've sucked it up long enough during 7 years of an abusive relationship, thanks.

YANBU Fathers should be JUST as aware of what's going on re school etc as much as MOthers are..it really annoys me when DH has no idea about things.
