How many baths per week is acceptable as a minimum? If no other washes.

Twice

smokinaces · 10/11/2010 20:28

DS1 is 4 and get bathed once a week if his eczema allows. DS2 is 2 and again weekly. They get wet wiped washed every day, and bathed more if needed, but general routine is Sunday night.

They arent dirty, and they dont smell.

lanismum · 10/11/2010 21:37

Kids are 5, 3 and 1, bath and hair wash every night, dd2 usually has paint in her hair from nursery, and ds, well he usually ends the day with his hair full of snot/juice/food/dirt grim boy! I am always amazed whe I hear of kids only bathing a few times a week, maybe mine are just super grubby but their fingernails would be black without a nightly bath, and dd2s hair would look like a trolls Grin

nelliesmum · 10/11/2010 21:48

Depends on how well they have wiped their bum during the course of the day generally.

nelliesmum · 10/11/2010 21:57

Should that be "bums" ? They do have one each.

pippylongstockings · 10/11/2010 22:17

Boys are 3 and 5 - they get bathed Tues/Thurs & Sun this is with a hair wash on those nights.

They might have a shower in between if say they have been swimming or very mucky but they are never that keen on a shower....

Dont see it worth while in making more work for yourself that you have to.

thecaptaincrocfamily · 10/11/2010 23:00

I can see I perhaps am a little clean freak Blush, perhaps it is the house and not dcs I should be focusing on Grin.

BTW updated advice for eczema is bathe in oilatum twice per day and emollient at least 3-4 times. The old advice was not to bath more than once per week (that advice comes from the specialist dermatology nurse).

Don't worry, Lanismum, my 3 are exactly the same! I posted the same earlier in the thread. Last night I looked at them and thought there was no way I couldn't bath them; nursery would call SS in the morning!

DD1 quite often ends the day looking like Mrs Twit.

Bumpsadaisie · 11/11/2010 10:30

DD is 17 months and we have a bath together every night, mainly cos its nice and she loves that time with me and it is part of her sleep cues. Don't use soap though - she is never dirty enough and has delicate skin.

Wash her hair twice a week.

Do teeth in bath at night and in the morning do hands face and teeth at the sink.

She looks spotless when I am in charge, less so on the days DH has her Grin ! I certainly don't think he bothers doing her hands face and teeth in the mornings ..

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 11/11/2010 22:34

thanks for the updated advice, the advice i got was 4 and 1/2 years ago when ds was newborn so interesting to hear its changed.

But very glad to hear others agree that johnsons is the worst! even the wipes are harsh as hell.

ds doesn't have eczema just very dry skin. I may ask doc for oilatum on presc for us both next time we are in, and see if it helps. Love oily baths such a nice feeling!

verytellytubby · 11/11/2010 22:48

2 a week. Hairwash once a week.

Flannel etc every night.

Smile Have really enjoyed this thread. LOL at Mrs Twit!Grin

Surely once a week is all they need. Its all I got! They don't sweat or smell..you'd have to leave them a few weeks before they did. Kids are supposed to be grubby little things. Think of the environment..all that soapy water!

porcamiseria · 19/04/2012 15:14

wow, I do them every other night. but they do get a bit bummy so special wash on non-bath nights!!!!

porcamiseria · 19/04/2012 15:15

Its the shitty bums thats the issue

I do NOT think flannel/baby wipe does the trick really

but cant be arsed every day

knowitallstrikesagain · 19/04/2012 15:19

See, this is another example of random thread resurrection I was talking about before!

OP's children have practically left home now Grin

degroote78 · 19/04/2012 15:22

I aim to bath my 2.5 year old every day but if we get back late or she's tired. Every other day is fine I think as they don't sweat too much when they're little.

FreudianSlipper · 19/04/2012 15:23

most days ds has a bath yesterday 2 baths as he wanted to try out his new submarine

hairwash twice a week. i used to wash his hair everyday until a few months ago

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 19/04/2012 15:27

DS 2.6 has a good wash every morning with a flannel and some special soap for his skin and then a bath every other night - Except its more often at the moment because my parents have him once a week and they always always always bath him! So its usually Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday but he has a full strip down wash if he doesn't have a bath - He still wears nappies in the night time so I don't want him to be smelly around other kids at nursery etc I was his hair everytime he is in the bath but use certain shamppos certain nights (Tee-tree for before nursery and Johnsons night time stuff if not)
