I haven't been on here long and tbh some of the I have read have made me feel really uncomforatble. It seems all someone has to do is ask a genuine question (not even make a 'judement') about a contentious topic e.g. stay at home mum's/working mums, chavvy names, or anything to do with benefits and they are jumped on and ranted at for being ignorant judgemental & ill informed among other things. I don't like it.

anonimity bah - the only bullies are the pedants I am scared of them as they remind me of my mother!Blush

YABU, AIBU does not equal MN as Findingmymojo highlighted. I love AIBU and indeed the whole of mumsnet. I was given some excellent legal advice on here when my son was not returned, lots of good advice in relationships too. AIBU imo merely highlights people's pov. I once posted on AIBU and nearly everyone told me I was BU and they were right,it saved me from ruining relationships with my DH's family.

FindingMyMojo · 09/11/2010 10:53

yes the pedants are frightening I agree, but they can't help their funny ways really - we should feel sorry for them not fear Grin

Do something sweet - stroke a pedant today!!!

I've not been here long - I think it's pretty mild compared with other forums I've been on over the years.

It gets a bit heated sometimes, which I think is no bad thing, but I am also prepared to give people here a lot of leeway. Lots of us are in states of rapid hormonal change or are desperately short of sleep or just generally stressed with it all. Add in the fact that however you parent, somebody somewhere will tell you you're doing it wrong, so people can be a bit defensive of their choices - to the extent that they can see anybody's choice to do it differently as a personal criticism ... and you have a recipe for a bunfight.

(I love a good bunfight, too Blush )

It doesn't seem to go with the presumption that people on MN are well educated and work in high paying jobs.

Most of the threads seem to be about living in a small one bedroom flat and being skint.

The language would be at home in a housing estate.

OK,OK I know that not all people who live in housing estates speak like trailer trash.

Bigmouthstrikesagain · 09/11/2010 13:08

Umm wouldn't it be that people living om nowt in a crappy house have more to talk about and a need to offload about it - a thread saying 'My large detached house is a bit drafty aibu to put socks on?' would get short shrift..Confused I think the surveys they have done demonstrates the educational/ income levels of MN users.

But feel free to generalise about 'council estate' people - I lived in council houses all my life but I can speak in full sentences and use three (or more) syllable words and eveythingHmm

Lots of people on here are lovely.

But tis like any community, innit.

Some people have no manners.
Some people are incapable of dealing with opposing views without resorting to rudeness and/or aggression.
Some people have low self-esteem so like to throw their weight around on a website where their true identity is unknown.
Some are just twats.

But don't worry!

Just keep posting, and someone as classy and highly intelligent as myself will be along soon. Grin

slowlygoingmadinlondon · 09/11/2010 13:53

liluri Grin could not have put it better myself!! and pobably couldnt, as not classy or highly intelligent, but I do try Smile

Have been here for a while and yes, it seems to be going through a meangirls phase at the moment. It happens now and then.

'some people have low self-esteem so like to throw their weight around on a website where their true identity is unknown'

Couldn't have put it better myself. The creation of an online personality is escapism for some.

Cyber cliques also reflect any RL community. A sort of elitism and those desperate to associate with the 'popular' ones.

It is age old human behaviour but it still pisses me off! I particularly can't stand the posts of the 'look at me, I am witty and hard skinned and I don't whine at all' variety

daftpunk · 09/11/2010 14:22

Ah shut up
