Islamist protesters

To think that the Judge should have charged them with contempt of court.
At the very least.
The woman had admitted to trying to murder an MP..
These people shouted abuse in court and intimidated a(female)muslim juror.
Who else would have been allowed to get away with this behaviour?

newwave · 05/11/2010 00:37

Pan, I truly believe that anyone/group have the right to say what they want within the law but inside the court I think that was a bit much, if had happened outside the court I would have no issue with the protest.

I would add that it bugs me that a minor sect/group of nutters think it is ok to want to impose their backward, homophobic mysoganistic and controlling religion on this country, you know where the exit is.

Rhinestone · 05/11/2010 00:38

Pan, you're PC to the point of idiocy; are clearly not reading anyone else's opinion and can't write English properly....you're my little sister aren't you??!!!

Don't forget Dad's birthday will you babe, xx

MoralDefective · 05/11/2010 00:38

Risible?..laughable?..
Contempt of court is laughable..?
'Shame on the sister' was one of the things they shouted at the female juror who was wearing a head scarf.
The op is about the behaviour of the protesters.
They were insulting our country
'British go to hell'.
She was sentenced, quite rightly, but the protesters should also have been charged with contempt of court.

OP posts:
Pan · 05/11/2010 00:39

and another thing..whist I am on..why is it to have my opinion seen as a "high horse" opinion?? It is just as valid as anyone else's. So why the high horse thing?

Pan · 05/11/2010 00:46

no "PC " stuff here. Just a sense of perspective about what happens in court, and how if WE don't like someones motives, or supporters, they get singled out.
If her supporters would have been charged, then so should numerous other people who shout out in Crown Courts, on most days of the week.

Rhine - not understanding your post about your dad. Sorry.

newwave · 05/11/2010 00:47

Pan, of course your opinion is as valid as anyone elses.

Was it you that called me a racist for thinking the EDF had the right to state their opinions, free speech is a two way street, you will hear what you dont like as well.

If it wasnt you please accept my apology

MoralDefective · 05/11/2010 00:47

Don't care about your 'high horse'.
Just think it's a shame you see this as an attack on Islam or any other 'otherness'.
But it is different surely, when people are allowed to behave like this in court with no repercussions.

OP posts:
Pan · 05/11/2010 00:54

newwave - it was me. And I saw something else you posted which made me know I was wrong about that. It was about rights to free speech and I objected to fascists having this right. Which they shouldn't.

MD - of course people shoudn't do this. My, now stretched out point, is that people DO this, but it only gets reported when so-called muslims do it in a high profile case. White, Christian, British folk do it every day.

Pan · 05/11/2010 00:56

newwave - so the apology is mine to make.

I hate liberal arguments in the face of fascists determined types. I misread you.

mathanxiety · 05/11/2010 00:58

There should have been some sort of juducial clampdown on the intimidators of the juror. That is thuggery and it doesn't matter who does it or why. To single out one juror in this way deserved a count of contempt.

She was doing her duty as a British subject, wearing her headscarf as she probably understands that is a requirement of her religion, and this is the thanks she gets? Will she feel a bit queasy if she gets another summons in the post some day?

The legal system depends on the willingness of jurors to come forward and sit there, quite exposed, in open court. They deserve the protection of the courts.

The courts also need to stand up for the rights of British Muslims who are law-abiding and loyal subjects, or they risk giving them the message that they are fair game to the thugs in their community if they visibly 'side with the "enemy"'.

newwave · 05/11/2010 01:01

Pan, no problem and thanks for the apology, I do have a bugbear about free speech tbh.

Appletrees · 05/11/2010 01:02

Well math once again I agree with you. Rhinestone, perfectly cogent arguments.

Appletrees · 05/11/2010 01:04

fascists shouldn't have the right to free speech? Er...isn't that a bit fascist?

Pan · 05/11/2010 01:04

so do I, newwave!! Speech is never free, as much as we think it should be. Speak out against a prevailing orthoxy and one finds out the cost of free speech....glad you accept my apology.

Pan · 05/11/2010 01:07

appletrree - no it isn't fascist.
It's called being civilised toward all your fellow human beings. Which fascists don't like to be.

night.

newwave · 05/11/2010 01:08

People objected to Griffin being on Question Time which IMHO lead to the collapse of the BNP vote and maybe the BNP itself. Let facists spew their bile it just proves how stupid they are. better out in the open where they can be seen than plotting under a rock.

Appletrees · 05/11/2010 01:11

Yes it is.

Pan · 05/11/2010 01:13

yep, see that. Am just nervous of a mass of opinion being so critical of that all the time. BNP are 'saleable' to alot of people.

and good night again.

MoralDefective · 05/11/2010 01:14

Yes but most 'White,Christian,British folk' don't threaten MPs,Jurors, etc
Nor do they carry placards that state
'Christianity shall dominate the world'
Nor do they shout in court
'shame on the sister'
Nor do they carry placards saying
'Christian captives must be feed'

OP posts:
Pan · 05/11/2010 01:17

night MD. Such an accurate self-styled name.

MoralDefective · 05/11/2010 01:19

Gee thanks

OP posts:
newwave · 05/11/2010 01:21

Moral.

I was on a jury at Snaresbrook about three years ago when the friends/family of a man charged with ABH shouted at a copper who had given evidence that he was "a fucking liar" and that they "would do him" they were cleared from the court but I dont know if they were arrested.

LBH the "islamists" are a bunch of fruit loops albeit dangerous ones

Rhinestone · 05/11/2010 01:22

Pan, you were reminding me of my little sister so I reminded you about Dad's birthday! Was meant to be gentle humour but I've had a couple of glasses of wine so sorry if it sounded weird / idiotic etc!

By the way my sis is gay so I take particular offense at people saying she should be killed for it - and Islamists DO say that.

Thanks Apple, likewise.

earwicga · 05/11/2010 01:46

MD -

'Yes but most 'White,Christian,British folk' don't threaten MPs,Jurors, etc'

Nor do most brown, Muslim, British folk. I have no idea why you felt the need to type the sentence above. It looks like you are making a them and us argument. I don't know if you are or not but you are using the types of language that racists also use.

Rhinestone - I often feel that I am arguing against my brother in a different internet guise. Know exactly what you mean.

slowlygoingmadinlondon · 05/11/2010 08:29

YADNU!!!
