To think that the Judge should have charged them with contempt of court.
At the very least.
The woman had admitted to trying to murder an MP..
These people shouted abuse in court and intimidated a(female)muslim juror.
Who else would have been allowed to get away with this behaviour?

People shout out in court all the time. If everyone that did was arrested and given jail time it would soon fill our already overcrowded prisons.

Agree with Riven, sensationalised and over reported.

Chil1234 · 05/11/2010 08:58

YABU... public galleries in courtrooms can contain some really nasty types at the best of times. Intimidating family members of victims, staring hard at jurors etc. They usually get evicted by security and cautioned rather than charged.

"These people" are not Muslims. The people who flew planes into the Twin Towers were not Muslims. The term "Muslim Terrorist" is an oxymoron. "These people" are individuals with a limited understanding of the Quran which, like the Bible, can be taken out of context to justify any point of view no matter how extreme. Like the Bible, the Quran is a complex work of which it takes a lifetime to gain an understanding and who's many layers are open to interpretation. Islam is fundamentally a religion of peace which holds it's followers to high moral standards, far higher than those followed by many people in this country today. As a Christian, i would not thank anyone for grouping me together with the KKK or the Westboro Baptist Church. Most Muslims should not be grouped with those who would behave like this.

What is needed is a new word with which to refer to "these people", one that shows them for what they are, bigots who twist the scriptures for their own ends. They should certainly have been found guilty of contempt of court and the majority of Muslims would agree with this.

YANBU
I just deleted a long post because I dont want to get involved in a slanging match but I do wonder sometimes if pc has gone mad in Britain. It should be a place where all races and religions can live together in harmony and anyone who doesnt like it should move out and go elsewhere. There are countries where racism is not a crime and others which welcome all sorts of extremists.
I love my Muslim d-i-l dearly and her family are sweet and tolerant.I was asked to say a Christian prayer at dgd's Muslim naming ceremony.Thats what it should be like.

happiestblonde · 07/11/2010 19:08

Let's throw a spanner in here.

Pan - I also believe the EDL have the right to free speech, it's one of the wonders of a democracy. I do not, however, believe they should be able to incite racial hatred and that also applies to these protestors.

disclaimer... I don't suppor the edl, they're all shockers, etc etc.

happiestblonde · 07/11/2010 19:09

Pranma - agree with every word, glad you have such a lovely family.

fedupofnamechanging · 07/11/2010 19:23

Pan - I have also been called some very nasty things by you because I defend the right of everyone in this country to freedom of speech. I did not complain to MNHQ and have your words removed because I believe in your right to freedom of speech.

Interesting that you happily exercise this right whilst simultaneously seeking to deprive others of it. If anyone is behaving like a fascist it's you.

glad to see you had the good grace to apologise to newave

Pan · 07/11/2010 20:23

karma - your point carries no logic. The fact you chose to not report anything I said is utterly irrelevant as to whether fascists should be allowed to vent their bile.
A lot of people get insulted on MN - somewhere above Iwas being accused of 'pc to the point of idioacy' or some such. I couldn't give a stuff about that - it says much more about the poster than me. But when on controversial threads then feisty things are said - I have never entered the 'bottle/breast' threads, though I am assured limbs are lost in those battles.

fedupofnamechanging · 07/11/2010 20:47

Pan - I have no problem with feisty, and I don't even mind getting insulted. I'm just pointing out that you did call me some quite nasty things that arguably contravene the 'rules' of MN. The discussion was about freedom of speech, and I respect your right to exercise that freedom even though I didn't like what you said. For that reason I was/am happy to let it stand. it is your right to say what you think.

My point is logical because you were enjoying your right to freedom of speech, but don't respect the rights of other people to enjoy that same freedom.

I don't care what a persons opinion is, in a free and democratic society they should have the right to voice it.

Once you start saying that freedom of speech should only exist for some people then automatically no one has it at all. Even though I may hear things I don't like, I would rather hear them than have people prohibited from exercising the rights that people have fought and died to give us.
