She is 14 and has been selected by the school to represent her house at their service.

DD is vehemently pacifist and anti-war.

Rather than her get in trouble for refusing to go (which is what she is planning on doing) would it be unreasonable for her to go but to wear a white poppy instead of a red one?

My son is 15 years old and has worn a white poppy, with my blessing, for quite a few years. He's worn it at school, at remembrance services and churches and has never been asked to remove it. Some people have asked him, "Why he's wearing a white poppy and not a red on?" and when he's explained, they have usually been quite interested and some have asked where he got it. Surely the soldiers, etc dies for our freedom to express ourselves freely. If your daughter isn't allowed to wear her white poppy, then surely they fought for nothing!!

She'd be better to turn down the invitation, otherwise she will offend.

I havent read the whole thread, but am amazed though not surprised at the level of response. Anyway, gonna chip in ....

Your daughter should step down from representing her house at the service. What she is doing is disrespectful. I would suggest she looks at the meaning and history of the red poppy and to be frank, grow up a little.

Why doesn't she do what I do & wear both a red & white poppy? One for remembrance of those that died in all the useless, politicians wars over the years & one for our hope of peace in the future.
