I sent this to headquarters. If anyone wishes to support me great, if not well at least I tried

Hi there. It seems there is a certain amount of online bullying that happens on your website. Certain posters seem able to make very offensive comments and then either get away with it or if challeneged, they are viciously defended by their 'supporters'. I am sure this is not the culture you would wish to promote on your website and I feel tempted to report this elsewhere. I still believe that to say 'women who give up career choices they are stupid aren't they' should not be encouraged on your website where many SAHM post and do not wish to be labelled as stupid collectively. I would not make such sweeping generalisations about any group. Thank you for your time

You lot are STUPID!!!!

GMajor7 · 03/11/2010 14:33

Phew!....just read this thread despite having a hundred and one more important things to do.

I conclude that you are all being VVVVU!

I stay in - MN is dull.
I go out - MN becomes far more entertaining!

Why do these threads always start when I'm out?! Grin

DidEinsteinsMum · 03/11/2010 16:17

No idea GMajor, but they also always happen when if i laugh I end up coughing up a lung. Tis not fair.

Glad some entertainment was provided but not to have caused breathing problems Einstein

aww, sm, you didn't say "words on a screen"!

PlentyOfPockets · 03/11/2010 16:49

Hahaha have you been anywhere else on the internet?

I only started posting here very recently and am a bit of a refugee from another forum (unrelated to parenthood) where personal insults, sock-puppetry, trolling, ganging up on new posters etc. had become endemic, largely because of the atrocious way it was moderated (they outsourced it to people who didn't have a clue about the community they were serving). If you wrote "tit", the whole thread could get removed. Other threads and posts would be removed for no apparent reason and an explanation was never, ever given. Meanwhile, it was apparently perfectly acceptable for people to call each other "retarded" on a regular basis ... this was an 18+ forum, BTW, but you'd never know it.

So, I started looking round for another forum to hang out, thought of MN because I happen to be a mum and (once bitten, twice shy) had a good nose around before I started posting, including a couple of threads in Site Stuff about moderation decisions. What a breath of fresh air this place is! Honestly, this is by far the most polite forum I've visited, even the AIBU threads and the moderation here, IMO, strikes a pretty much perfect balance between keeping things civil and allowing people to speak their minds. What's more, MNHQ are willing to discuss their decisions with the community.

I haven't looked at the thread you refer to. I'm a SAHM and I can see that the comment you quote is a bit of a personal insult, but it's really not worth all this fuss.

Appreciate what you've got here, I say :)

I am fed up with grown women shouting 'bullying'.

Being bullied is horrible and life destroying. I have friends whose children have ended their lives because of it.

Being disagreed with or even sworn at on a website for adults is NOT bullying. It might be unpleasant or upsetting but its not bullying.

You can get off a thread, you can turn off your PC, you can go to another forum. You can tell them to Fuck off right back.

I cant stand passive agressive whining. I would much rather someone said something outrageously rude than pretended they were doing something for the greater good when they have been disagreed with.

There are some people on here who have opinions I think are pretty vile. There is one person I totally refuse to engage with at all, so horrible are her views. I have been ganged up on a couple of times, big deal, turn off the lappy and come back later.

Its not bullying because I can get away from it very easily. Its not relentless and it doesnt prevent me from living my life.

Stop bloody moaning and get on with your life.

MrsDV - she has stopped moaning, actually, and we're all being nice to each other.

Except to Shirley, obv.

piscesmoon · 03/11/2010 18:12

'SAHM post and do not wish to be labelled as stupid collectively. I would not make such sweeping generalisations about any group.

I think that you should leave anyone collectively out of it. I was a SAHM and quite happy-if people want to label me as stupid they can do so-it doesn't bother me in the least. I think that you would have to be very insecure in your choice to take offence.
There are certain subjects where you need a tin hat to go against the flow, but people are entitled to their opinions.

SantasMooningArse · 03/11/2010 18:16

MrsDV you can do all those things- but you can;t erase memories.

The experience I had was extremely negative comments about my disabled kids; opinions I had never ehard and that absolutely distressed me. I wish I could erase them I cannot, but absolutely it adds to my fear of what they face when they are adults.

I;ve been bullied very badly indeed, I have As and it's part fo teh deal it would seem. DS1 has been bullied at school so badly he ahs come home with shoe marks on him in bruise form, and been amde to pay to have friends: I know how abd bullying can be and it's a horrid thing but extremes of the experience do not negate distress through other forms. Even at uni (I started at 32, no spring chicken sadly) I used to sit in class and have a rumble fo comments amde every time I spoke for three whole eyars, to teh piont where I physically could not speak in class and used to come home in tears at lunchtime.

Very different from the internet stuff but the internet stuff still hurt like crazy.

And don;t get me wrong; am no 'MN is all bullying' whiner: i;ve been here longer than the pixels me! there's more good to MN and the net generally than bad, by a long way. But it can have a nasty side.

thefirstmrsDeVeerie · 03/11/2010 18:17

Yes but I cant be arsed to read the whole thread Grimma. I thought that was obvious so please stop bullying me Grin

wishiwas21again · 03/11/2010 18:51

MrsDV this thread has moved on and I already apologised for my 'passive agressive' whining so fuck off (you said you prefered plain insults Grin)

I read back and also PMSL at 'I have been called a Fucker, cunt and whatever scottishmummy said'. At the time I was outrageously offended but I can see the funny side!
