Or am I being pathetic ? DH is at work and says he hasn't got time to drop the car back but I really don't want to make the 4 mile round trip in the dark, 2 miles of which will be with a 9 month old baby in a sling

YABU

nickelbangBANGbang · 01/11/2010 17:11

you're being pathetic, i'm afraid.

it's going to be dark like this and worse until spring, so you'll have to get used to it.

I can see where you're coming from, though - the first day I walked home from work when it was already dark outside freaked me out. Grin

Tee2072 · 01/11/2010 17:12

Is the power out? If so, do you have a torch? Why is it so dark?

Fibilou · 01/11/2010 17:12

this is the last week I have to walk - I go back to work next week and will have the car from next Monday (she only does one day a week)

YABU - I wouldn't fancy walking 4 miles in the dark and cold either, but why don't you just get the bus? Or a taxi if it's not a regular thing?

Intergalactic · 01/11/2010 17:13

Are there street lights? If so I think possibly YABU, soz.

Try a sling where you can get baby on your back, much easier for walking as they get bigger.

thisisyesterday · 01/11/2010 17:13

well.... it doesn't sound like you have much choice does it! lol

um, it wouldn't bother me to do the distance, or to do it in the dark. but then I have no idea where you live and what it's like.

can you walk there and get a taxi back?

nickelbangBANGbang · 01/11/2010 17:13

Tee Grin

it's dark outside ! Grin

thisisyesterday · 01/11/2010 17:14

or can you get a taxi to your dh's work and pick the car up?

Fibilou · 01/11/2010 17:14

No, there is street lighting.

I am being pathetic, aren't I. I am just being irrational because I am worried about something happening to DD

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 01/11/2010 17:14

Is it two miles through a forest, with wolves and houses made of sweets or is it along well lit pavements in a town? If it's the former, YANBU.

Fibilou · 01/11/2010 17:15

No, there's no bus to the nursery, it's along back streets and there is street lighting etc. I just don't want to go out in the cold and dark having been warm and snug in the house all day ! And no money for taxi

That's true !!

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 01/11/2010 17:16

Yup, sorry you are being terribly pathetic. If you're too anxious to walk home with DD then get a taxi.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 01/11/2010 17:17

x posts. Just walk then, I'm with Riven. good free exercise.

Fibilou · 01/11/2010 17:18

Em, Fermina - I put to you, would you fancy embarking on a 4 mile walk now ? In the cold, dark and carrying a 25lb baby ?

I may be being a bit pathetic but terribly pathetic ?

OP posts:
TheProvincialLady · 01/11/2010 17:19

Yeah, just walk you lazy wimp (in a nice way!)Grin

Tee2072 · 01/11/2010 17:20

Use a pushchair instead of a sling? Teach the 9 month old to walk? Grin

I am starting to do that walk as well (although not tonight because DH is home today and he took the walk instead as we don't own a car) but I am looking forward to bundling up and getting my 16 month old and crunching through the leaves with the pushchair!

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 01/11/2010 17:21

Well, yes I would actually. I'd find it infinitely preferable to what I need to do in the next hour or so. TBH I doubt I'm the only one on the thread who wouldn't gladly swap with you.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 01/11/2010 17:22

wouldn't would

DanceInTheDark · 01/11/2010 17:23

Fibilou - I can't drive so often have to walk to and from places in the dark in all weathers. You won't melt Wink

nickelbangBANGbang · 01/11/2010 17:24

I wouldn't mind, I like walking.

but I would probably prefer a back-carrier to a sling.

and you can have a rest when you get there.

(and you could even take a flask of hot drink to sip on the way back)

don't forget your gloves and earmuffs, though, cos it's a bit nippy.

:)

Thanks for that helpful patronising little comment, Fermina, it makes me feel a lot more pathetic, as I expect was you holier than thou-er intention. I expect people in haiti and pakistan would gladly swap with me as well.
