Just wait till she masters the "Batman smells" version.

bekkio · 29/10/2010 06:29

Try having a child's keyboard that has it (Jingle Bells) as one of it's presets! I've been listening to the flippin' tune all year !
Wink

Ilythia · 29/10/2010 06:48

Now they are fighting over who gets to sing it.

DD1 says she can sing whatever she wants because she is sick.
DD2 is just repeating it Over and Over.

I do like the 'Hey!' though.

This is one of Dd's favourite bed time songs, her choice not mine, along with We wish you a Merry Christmas Smile.

Ilythia · 29/10/2010 07:06

Stop trying to make me feel better. I am composing a letter to nursery and need to keep the righteous indignation going!

OP posts:
Foxy800 · 29/10/2010 08:35

Personally I think you are being very unreasonable, I work in a nursery and we have to start early so all the children have a chance to learn the songss ( not started yet though).

Ps My dd who is 4.5 yrs old happily sings it whatever time of year it is.

mistletoekisses · 29/10/2010 08:39

Erm, DS1's fave song right now is Santa Claus is coming to town....and it is entirely my fault.

In my defence, it will mean he will actually know the song when Christmas arrives! [hgrin]

kreecherlivesupstairs · 29/10/2010 08:47

Do they know the verses about 'good old Fanny Bright' or some name with Fanny in. DD found this out and was tickled pink.

BikeRunScream · 29/10/2010 08:47

DS (2) has recently mastered "Happy Birthday" and signs it all the time, regardless of there being any birthdays or not.

Ilythia · 29/10/2010 08:56

DD2 had her birthday a few weeks ago and sang herself happy birthday every mealtime for a few weeks, so I am due a new song I supposeHmm

It is now being mashed up with old macdonald though, quite amusing in my current sleep deprived state.

Old macdonald had jingle bells....

Good old wiki, here you go kreecher..
Lyrics

The first verse and chorus are the most well-remembered sections of "Jingle Bells":

Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bobtails ringa[?]
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight!

(chorus)
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way;
Oh! what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way;
Oh! what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

Although less well-known than the opening, the remaining verses depict high-speed youthful fun. In the second verse, the narrator takes a ride with a girl and loses control of the sleigh:

A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon, Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side,
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
He got into a drifted bank
And then we got upsot.b[?]
|: chorus :|

In the next verse (which is often skipped), he falls out of the sleigh and a rival laughs at him:

A day or two ago,
The story I must tell
I went out on the snow,
And on my back I fell;
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh,
He laughed as there I sprawling lie,
But quickly drove away.
|: chorus :|

In the last verse, after relating his experience, he gives equestrian advice to a friend, who then picks up some girls, finds a faster horse, and takes off at full speed:

Now the ground is white
Go it while you're young,
Take the girls tonight
and sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bobtailed bay
Two forty as his speedc[?]
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! you'll take the lead.

at our nursery this year Mary and Joseph are knocking and finding room at...the Bethlehem hospital.

'Because it's not hygenic to have a baby in a stable is it?'

So Jingle Bells in October would be forgivable!

Ilythia · 29/10/2010 09:00

Grin that's brilliant!

OP posts:
Deemented · 29/10/2010 09:01

I can get boyo to teach them the 'Batman Smells' version if it's any help??

Grin
Ilythia · 29/10/2010 09:02

No. That would not help.Grin

Deemented · 29/10/2010 09:02

Are you quite sure? He's practicing now, just in case...

Ilythia · 29/10/2010 09:09

The batman version upsets me though.
It doesn't rhyme or scan or make any bleeding sense.

Jungle bells,
Batman smells,
Robin laid an egg
Father Christmas lost his knickers on the motorway, (hey!)

Hmm
OP posts:
SandStorm · 29/10/2010 09:11

Did anyone else find themselves singing the full version or was that just me?

And I now think yabu for putting this song in my head in October where it will doubtless stay till about March.

Deemented · 29/10/2010 09:14

Tch!

We don't sing that version...

Ours is...

Jingle Bells,
Batman Smells,
Robin laid an egg.
The Batmobile has lost it wheels
So they'll have to fly instead

Hey!

Malkuth · 29/10/2010 09:20

Ah our Batman version goes

Jingle Bells Batman smells,
Robin flew away,
Uncle Ed lost his head on the motorway, hey!

Unfortunately Uncle Ed is sometimes substituted with Uncle Billy and, well I am sure you get the jist!

Ilythia · 29/10/2010 09:53

egg? instead? That Doesn't Rhyme Either.

(can you tell I am skiving today, not posted so much in weeksGrin)
