...to scare small children

We have a window right next to our front door, and on halloween I like to crouch down below the window wearing a Frandenstein mask, waiting for trick-or-treaters

Then, the moment they ring the bell, I leap to my feet stick my head right close to the glass their eye level and let out a wild roar.

Given it is Halloween, and they ARE doing trick or treat, I think it's pretty funny, .. but sometimes the children burst into tears, (actually they quite often burst into tears) and Mrs Stubborn thinks I am BU.

I always give them sweets though.

LOL

mine would love it

alexpolismum · 27/10/2010 12:07

Do you really wait by the door? Don't you have anything else to do? Or start to feel cramped crouching down?

ElbowFan · 27/10/2010 12:10

BRILLIANT!!!!!
If they know you - they should not be upset because you've done it before and they should know to beware. If they don't know you then they take their chances ringing on the bell!
(Would that I could do the same)

stubbornhubby · 27/10/2010 12:12

alexpolismum, yes it can get quite cramped but it's worth it to see their faces :-)

I just choked my sandwich
HILARIOUS!

Of course YANBU. What a superb idea. I am such a misery I loathe trick or treat. DD is desperate to do it and this year all her dreams have come true. Her school is arranging a route with houses on it who have agreed to give out little treats. what funHmm.
I was asked if our house could be included. I said no. DD was mortified.

WingDad · 27/10/2010 12:26

Hahahahahaha, brilliant Grin

You know I might do my own version of this! Aaah this Halloween shall be funny!

3thumbedwitch · 27/10/2010 12:29

Ha! That's excellent. Glad you give them sweets afterwards though - but I would think you don't get repeat visitors!

I hate T-or-Ting completely - it ruined Hallowe'en for me. Thankfully not too much of a problem here.

memphis83 · 27/10/2010 12:32

haha love it! my brother used to open the door with a loud roar until a boy about 3 was with older siblings and dad wet himself, felt so guilty he gave him the whole bowl of sweets we had!

We have a lovely neighbour who decorates her garden shed as a witch's cavern, dresses up and invites the children in to get their sweets. They love it. Thought she'd give up when her husband died (he used to shepherd the children to the back garden) but she insisted on carrying on. Very kind indeed.

SlaughteredSheep · 27/10/2010 12:40

My three year old would cack her pants and DH and I would have to POSL console her. Last year we took her to MILs. MIL, FIL and both SILs were all dressed up and she wouldn't go in the house [hgrin].

If you knock on someones door at Halloween there's a chance that someone might pop out and scare you. It's part of the fun! Anyone who objects to you doing it is BU!

Rosa · 27/10/2010 12:43

I am laughing here just at the thought - WHy not put a sign on your gate saying 'Enter at your own risk' so at least they have a warning .
I am on the 2nd floor in a block of 6 so not much chance of anyone T & T round here !

WingDad · 27/10/2010 12:43

Ah edam, I love that, don't you? When some lovely people go the extra mile with a bit of effort for the kids :)

lazarusb · 27/10/2010 12:48

That's fantastic! I was going to throw a sheep's head [hgrin]

I had a chuckle - my kids would love that

TrillianSlasher · 27/10/2010 12:59

Sounds fantastic!

GetOrfMoiLand · 27/10/2010 13:07

You sound good fun OP. Smile That's a good idea.

MY DP is the one who pisses about getting in a load of sweets for halloween, puts masks on, and eagerly anticipates trick or treaters.

I just sit there hatchet faced (my own, not a mask) and try to ignore the whole thing

TrillianSlasher · 27/10/2010 13:20

What time do children go trick-or-treating? Dusk? I imagine we'll be out. Not that I mind...

moomoo1967 · 27/10/2010 13:23

My DD would love that, in fact there was one couple last year who jumped out at them with lots of noise. They screamed but loved it ! Grin

Oblomov · 27/10/2010 13:57

Love it.
Bet you the H&S Police will be here in a minute though !!

30andMerkin · 27/10/2010 13:59

Is the rule if you have a pumpkin in the window you give out sweets??

motherinferior · 27/10/2010 14:04

DD1 alleges that she would be 'not sure' about this. Personally I think the little buggers should get the response they deserve...

UPDATE: DD1 says 'as long as I got sweets out of it I would probably recover'. I rest my case.

motherinferior · 27/10/2010 14:07

Message from DD1: where does he live? Grin
