...to scare small children

We have a window right next to our front door, and on halloween I like to crouch down below the window wearing a Frandenstein mask, waiting for trick-or-treaters

Then, the moment they ring the bell, I leap to my feet stick my head right close to the glass their eye level and let out a wild roar.

Given it is Halloween, and they ARE doing trick or treat, I think it's pretty funny, .. but sometimes the children burst into tears, (actually they quite often burst into tears) and Mrs Stubborn thinks I am BU.

I always give them sweets though.

I used to love it when people did this.

my friend's dh last year had a big bowl of sweets with a skeletal hand on it that grabbed you when you tried to take a sweet

it was so funny watching all the little ones wrestling with themselves - terrified, but hard-wired to grab the sweets at any price Grin

YABU - why risk making some small children cry in terror? ..and that's funny? Please, do explain it to me

They don't have to go trick or treating (a shuddersome activity in any case), I rather think...

I wish it were that simple in some areas of the UK, MDS. I used to black out the entire house so it looked like I was out, if I couldn't actually be out, and they still came knocking. Dad's house regularly got pelted with eggs at Hallowe'en. Guess we were just unlucky with out local yoof.

DH has the lazymans version of this - he sets up a CD player in the bushes at the front gate with a screaming CD track, keeps the curtains open so when he sees them coming as they open the gate he presses play and scares the crap out of them! We then wait to see who is brave enough to come further in for sweets. He is contemplating a second on by the door for double the effect, just when they think they are safe!
