What is it with all the "am I pregnant" threads?

In this day and age, when a test costs £1 from the £1 shop and you can know the results in less than an hour (even allowing for the time it takes to go and buy the damn stick to piss on) do grown woman still post on the internet asking "am I pregnant"?

OP posts:
CappuccinoCarrie · 26/10/2010 12:49

It says I'm having a girl! Interesting coz I'm not due to ovulate until tomorrow... Confused

In answer to the OP, I can't face the heartache of seeing another bfn again, so I'll only test once I'm about 4 days late. That doesn't stop me wondering am I/are't I and scouring the internet MN for that secret pregnancy symptom I haven't yet come across that will put me out of my misery, so YABU Grin

redandyellowandpinkandgreen · 26/10/2010 12:50

I'll admit to a bit of dithering (7 tests!) because the first two I did only showed up positive outside of the time limit so I was in a flap about whether or not I really was. But I still did a test. And then a few more just to be quite sure...

Oh and you know you can't trust those cheap ones so then you have to try some other brands, it's a minefield.

JodiesMummy · 26/10/2010 12:51

well I bought some OPKs and according to them I havent ovulated for months! Hmm I think they are crap tbh.

Uh oh - I got Dick Cheney as father. Think will stick to wee sticks. And I certainly don't have babies that heavy - would stop TTC DC3 if I thought it might be anywhere near that!

As to why people do, for both DS1 and DS2 I got a -ve until AF was nearly 2 weeks late. Did start to go potty as I was one of those irritating women who was convinced I was pregnant before AF even due but DH wouldn't believe me as the stick said no. If someone has been TTC for years could understand why they may want to ask the question - not easy to talk about that early on. But yes, buy cheap tests and keep weeing....

Tee2072 · 26/10/2010 13:02

Not only am I pregnant, according to the online test, but the father is Michael Jackson.

From beyond the grave?

What will I tell DH?!?!?

JodiesMummy · 26/10/2010 13:03

Congrats Tee...........any ideas on names? Slanket?

nancydrewrocked · 26/10/2010 13:04

firwla I get the am I aren't I debate that rages in everyones head but to start a thread? It is so bloody irritating. FWIW I used the cheapo ones from Amazon (25 for a £5 or something) and got a very faint +ve 10 DPO. Obviously because tehy were so chap I then tested 11DPO, 12DPO, 13DPO and finally went out and bough a CB early test just to confirm Blush

Still wouldn't have started a thread asking if I was though!

I think Slanket's a perfect name, Jodiesmummy. Except it says it's a girl. Slankette instead perhaps? [hgrin]

LotteryWinnersOnAcid · 26/10/2010 13:11

That online test said my dog is pregnant to Arnold Schwarzenegger. I am so proud.

Chil1234 · 26/10/2010 13:33

The 'am I pregnant?' threads are on a par with the 'should I go to the doctor?' ones. Given that going to the doctor is free on the NHS surely it's better to take up five minutes of their time to find out if something's wrong rather than canvassing the opinion of unqualified strangers on a website? Waiting for 'the house opposite is on fire, should I call for the fire-brigade?' thread... only a matter of time.

Lotster · 26/10/2010 13:42

Thanks for the test link, I'm having a baby boy, 12lb 5oz, fathered by Ralph Nader. No idea who he is but still, nice to have a name to double barrel for junior Grin

OP, YANBU - I find it quite irritating. I imagine these threads are usually posted by the immature (who also do "does he fancy me??" quizzes in 'More' or some such mag) or the attention-hungry.

DialMforMother · 26/10/2010 13:43

Gorerenewed I am having a little redheaded boy by Bill so he is already my baby daddy. [hangry]

JodiesMummy · 26/10/2010 13:45

Lotterywinners - your dog better back off I was there first!

Cyclebump · 26/10/2010 13:50

Aaaargh! According to the online test, the father is Dick Cheney! The shame!

Brasso4 · 26/10/2010 13:58

Genius, I am pregnant by Michael Jackson!!

Scaredandalone · 26/10/2010 14:03

Brilliant I am having a 14.6oz baby from the pope.

OooeeeoooeeeoooeeEthel · 26/10/2010 14:04

Holy fuck! I'm having a 14lb 12oz baby!!!

lissieloucifer · 26/10/2010 14:09

YANBU, i hate Am I Pregnant threads. I also loathe the "I have a faint line, but it appeared 3 days later and is grey, is that a BFP?" threads.

but then Im a bitter witch who pisses on everyones parade by shouting at them for not being able to wait 4 days.

I occasionally start "Im scared, sit with me and tell me it will be ok" threads though, so I am a hypocrite.

fwiw, I also loathe the "we've been ttc for 3m, why is it taking sooo long??" threads. they make me want to pluck out my eyeballs and forcefeed them to the op along with used OPK sticks.

MumBarTheDoorZombiesAreComing · 26/10/2010 14:11

Deadbody that fantastic. I am pg with the mailman and having a 6lb 12oz girl with blonde hair and blue eyes!! Grin

GeraldineAubergine · 26/10/2010 14:11

Janet Reno impregnated me and I'm having a 12lb 14oz girl. I'm not convinced of the accuracy of that test if I am honest.

lissieloucifer · 26/10/2010 14:12

my baby is a boy, 13lb and the father is janet reno... now THATS a miracle (esp since Im finishing my period about now)

lissieloucifer · 26/10/2010 14:13

Knackerelli · 26/10/2010 15:18
