to want a real fur coat

I don't me made from baby seals or anything endangered but a rabbit one maybe.

I eat rabbit, so can't see the problem with wearing a coat made from a by product.

Forehead, there's a difference between fur for vanity and some necessary testing of drugs on animals.

There is categorically no need to wear fur in UK in 2010.

southeastastra · 24/10/2010 21:40

yes because british people lead the way, haven't you heard of the empire Wink

i do think we should make a stand again

Discowife · 24/10/2010 21:46

forhead I wasn't rude, I refered to you as a disney character who wore fur. I don't think that is quite the same as throwing paint at you is it?

I did first post info for you to read. However if you were interested in educating yourself or changing your opinion about animal welfare you would have already researched the subject or even read the link I posted.

I don't worry about bullying people who think murdering things for decoration is ok though if I am honest. And I don't worry about fufilling a stereotype in your mind, you have fufilled every stereotype I have in my head about fur wearers. Willfully ignorant, belligerent and head in the sand.

leather for expensive bags (like Tod's etc) is from cattle bred for that purpose. The farmers hire cattle herders to prevent cattle flies from spoiling the hide as they need as much of the leather intact. Carcass goes to pet food makers as not suitable cattle for premium meat sale.

It is not a byproduct in many cases.

I have five fur coats. Two bought in russia when I used to live there. The rest vintage. I also hunt.

southeastastra · 24/10/2010 21:59

god this thread is very depressing

HalloweeseG · 24/10/2010 22:01

I feel quite faint :(

forehead · 24/10/2010 22:01

Disco.... I am not surprised by your response the holier than though attitude that people such as yourself have always amazes me. You talk about me 'educating' myself , but surely someone with such stromg beliefs as yourself can 'educate' without resorting to mindless name calling. Say what you like about me, but i do not believe that i have been rude to you and others despite the fact that i do not agree with your views.
If you want 'ignorant' people such as myself to listen to you. then you must learn how to conduct yourself. Then maybe i would listen.

Mingg · 24/10/2010 22:01

YANBU - fur coats are fantastically warm

poshsinglemum · 24/10/2010 22:03

I love me fake fur. Keeps me nice and warm without killing anything. Or buy second hand.

HalloweeseG · 24/10/2010 22:03

Which is why animals who live outside have them.

choufleur · 24/10/2010 22:05

I'm not just posting to get an argument going. I'm watching a couple of vintage coats on ebay and wondered what others thought. The views are poles apart. Clearly no middle ground.

LetThereBeRock · 24/10/2010 22:07

I'm no animal rights activist. My dp goes shooting, comes from a hunting family, and we both hunt with hawks/falcons and ferrets, but I don't like the fur industry.

I realise that many people won't like what I do either, before any says so. I'm all too aware of that.

Leather is a byproduct and I eat beef,so I've no problem with that, but I don't really approve of wearing fur,of fur farms or fur trapping.

alfabetty · 24/10/2010 22:08

The vast majority of the population occupy the middle ground. They don't engage in the discussion because they either a) don't care or b) are put off by the stridency of the anti-fur lobby.

southeastastra · 24/10/2010 22:09

vintage is just as bad as it encourages the production, really find it weird that so many find it acceptable

southeastastra · 24/10/2010 22:10

fgs they don't care?? all that fuss about the woman who put the cat in the wheelie bin and they don't care?

Discowife · 24/10/2010 22:11

Does that make you feel better forehead? You have not once made a valid point. It is not my job to educate you. It is your job as an adult to educate yourself. Which is my point proved really, if you wanted to know the truth you would educate yourself.

Instead you take offence at my wording of things. Because it is easier that way.

WHy don't you read some of the information already provided on this thread, then come back when you've decided all is hunkydory. Hope it doesn't upset your delicate sensibilities though. If Cruella upsets you... anally electrocuted animals might just set you over the edge.

MinnieMummy · 24/10/2010 22:12

For all those people who think they are acceptable because they keep you warm... if you want to maximise the warmth factor, you'd actually wear them inside out.

Mingg · 24/10/2010 22:14

Really Minnie? You have one? Trust me in -40 you might be very grateful for one.

alfabetty · 24/10/2010 22:15

No, the vast majority of people have no interest in or knowledge of animal welfare, food, leather, fur, sheepskin, animal testing for cosmetics or pharmaceuticals, whatever. Likewise they have no interest in thinking about cheap labour used to produce their bargain clothing.

The cat in the wheely bin was another example of a small number of people with very, very strong feelings being very vocal. The majority of people didn't care about that, either.

Discowife · 24/10/2010 22:17

I really wish I could do whatever I like and have no guilt of any kind because the rest of the world didn't tell me how to think in a very very nice way that made me feel all warm inside

Hedgeblunder · 24/10/2010 22:20

But it is never minus 40 here.

I find people that wear mink utterly utterly soulless. Mink have to be skinned alive to keep the softness, I don't get on my high horse about much, but the idea of a small animal being literally skinned alive, bleeding, nerves exposed, dying a death that a torture victim would be unlucky to go through psycopathic.

This thread is seriously making me want to vomit, what a terrible message for your children,
I honestly pity them for having a mother like you.

southeastastra · 24/10/2010 22:20

i think the vast majority of people do have an interest but rely on the PETAs of this world to publicise it
