or incredibly poncy to start using MDR instead of LOL ...

... since MDR means mort de rire - dead from laughing and sounds much more poncy than merely laughing out loud.

I may even adopt @+ for "see you later" - à plus.

What else could we add to the MN Poncy Acronym List?

DSLS (Dieu seul le sait- God only knows) when you have no idea what to answer to someone's question, could replace a jammy dodger as well.

Chil1234 · 24/10/2010 10:55

Less 'poncy' it would appear and more 'French'. Perhaps Shock could be replaced with ZA? 'Zut Alors!!'

Gory09 · 24/10/2010 10:57

NDB? 'nom de bleu'

Mme, I see that the shore of Lac Leman really are inspiring!Smile

MmeBodyInTheBasement · 24/10/2010 10:57

Chil
Ah, but it is the usage of French that is poncy. Unless of course one is French.

ZA and DSLS are both very good and are herewith added to The List. (Which perhaps needs a slightly more poncy name).

Ne frettez pas mes braves, je suis completement sur la valise....

LittleMissHissyFangs · 24/10/2010 11:07

LittleMissHissyFangs · 24/10/2010 11:08

We'll be needing a Pfffff and a Gallic Shrug emoticon.....

Gory09 · 24/10/2010 11:10

Oh Little miss you just reminded me of one!

PDPPLC 'pas de pitie pour les croissants'- not pity for the croissants' I never quite managed to understand fully the deepest meaning of it though!Smile

LittleMissHissyFangs · 24/10/2010 11:13

Mme, wiz zeez tres droles sreads, you are spoiling us...

Grin
MmeBodyInTheBasement · 24/10/2010 11:17

I like no pity for the croissants.

We could of course add some German.

Will check out my niece's FB page, sure she uses loads of them.

My knowledge of German would not get you far, the only thing I seem to remember is "Die Tyroler sind lustig!" Grin

LittleMissHissyFangs · 24/10/2010 11:24

Das tut mir aber leid, could serve MN pretty well

Discowife · 24/10/2010 11:25

(MIAW)

mir ist alles wurst!

MmeBodyInTheBasement · 24/10/2010 11:31

TML - tut mir Leid

HDL - hab Dich lieb - perhaps less suited to MN

I am not down with the kids in the German language so don't know the German modern ones, only the older ones like MFG and LMAM

MmeBodyInTheBasement · 24/10/2010 20:15

Or however you say bump in French. Hoping for some more poncyness from MN.

I don't speak any languages sufficiently well to suggest abbreviations (although I would really like to see the end of LOL, my skin crawls when I read it). I would like to suggest BOFF as a term of astonishment. DD is learning french at school. She told me this is what it means. I spend a lot of time BOFFing her when she does something daft or funny.

SuePurblybilt · 25/10/2010 08:17

I would very much like a croissant emoticon. If so many people thought the Jammy Dodger was a cats bum/nipple then it has endless comedy uses..

trumpton · 25/10/2010 08:24

je suis HS . Je suis hors service. sorry got squirming grandbaby on lap. i am broken !

MmeBodyInTheBasement · 25/10/2010 08:27

Kreecher
DD has started saying "oh la la", much to our amusement.

I was reading DS's book last night when she suggested that it would be better if she read it. I think that my terrible French hurts her ears.
