after 25 yrs of fighting for the duvet and losing i finally broke and bought two singles
Every morning I would wake with no duvet on my side and dh would have it trailing on the floor his side.

Last night was second night with singles, dh had crap sleep cos his duvet fell on floor (lololol) continuously .So he says ,I slept like a baby for once.

he says it's not suitable for single duvet on double bed cos there's no purchase Hmm as duvet doesn't hang on either side.

thanks for the rant

YABU, you should have a double duvet each, that's what we do Grin

Tarlia · 20/10/2010 20:25

Very continental.. enjoy being snug :D

MooMooFarm · 20/10/2010 20:26

How is that going to work? Won't you just get a cold bit in the middle? [hconfused]

MooMooFarm · 20/10/2010 20:26

why didn't my halloween smiley work [hblush]

brimfull · 20/10/2010 20:26

no I have my duvet he has his
we don't snuggle when we are sleeping

latrucha · 20/10/2010 20:27

Yup. Two doubles here too.

brimfull · 20/10/2010 20:27

two doubles Shock
can't afford that now I have just bought new ones

I found putting a flat sheet between the duvet and us made a huge difference. DH finds it a lot harder to pull the duvet off me when there's a sheet tucked in on both sides below it.

LifeIsButtercream · 20/10/2010 20:28

YANBU - I quite like your idea!

Lol at duvet not having purchase - did he maybe mistake you trying to hang on to your postage-stamp-sized remaining bit as purchase? Wink

Maybe you could get a big heavyish blanket to drape over both sides of the bed, help keep the duvet on for him?

brimfull · 20/10/2010 20:28

tried that shatners
he is relentless puller

amidaiwish · 20/10/2010 20:29

get a massive one. superkingsize is the only way i don't want to kill dh in the night.

southeastastralbeing · 20/10/2010 20:29

they do that in denmark (or somewhere like that) i saw it on telly so must be true

we just bought a kingsize duvet and that tends to stay put

brimfull · 20/10/2010 20:32

we had kingsize
didn't make any difference he still stole it

OP posts:
tyler80 · 20/10/2010 20:32

Yes, common in Denmark, although I actually suggested the separate duvets before I discovered this (OH is Danish)

I like to roll up in the duvet completely, so it doesn't matter how large it is, it'll still be all mine. Used to be very aware of this, so I never slept properly when sharing a bed as I was conscious that once asleep I'd steal all the duvet.

emptyshell · 20/10/2010 20:33

We've got two doubles - so I can make the bed up and it looks normal. In the summer blokey doesn't have any duvet so I hog it all but in the winter he's a right royal duvet snatcher and I'm not having chilly bits anywhere.

abeautifulbutterfly · 20/10/2010 20:39

DH & I have never had a double duvet, always two singles. We sleep back to back, neither of us can sleep snuggled up, drives us mad. We both wriggle too much.
How did you survive 25 years Shock?

brimfull · 20/10/2010 20:42

I know
I get sooo angry at night as am not a great sleeper anyway .

Worst bit is when he would yank on the duvet and a cold rush of air would go down my back and wake me up just as I was drifting off.
I take ages to fall asleep.
I tell you he's lucky to be alive.

They do this in Germany so after coming back from holiday a couple of years ago I went out and bought two doubles. Absolute bliss.

ccpccp · 20/10/2010 20:50

YANBU

Get yourself one of those no-roll matresses to complete the effect. You'd never know there was someone asleep next to you :)

Who actually sleeps 'snuggled'? Thats just Hollywood imagery. Real life is duvet hogging and farts.

personally I would love separate bedrooms
like lords and ladies

he could visit with permission Grin

Ragwort · 20/10/2010 20:59

Agree ggirl - actually nine times out of ten my DH sleeps in the spare room - bliss Wink

tribpot · 20/10/2010 21:03

It's v continental, tis the same in Holland and Sweden. I wonder if the double-duvet-for-sharing is some kind of UK abomination caused by having come late to the duvet party and mistaken them for "puffy sheets"?

Skyrg · 20/10/2010 21:03

We have the opposite problem, boyfriend wakes up with no duvet and won't try to retrieve it because I have
an iron grip look too comfortable Grin. I just put a blanket his side on the floor so he can use that if I steal end up with the duvet.

YaddahYaddahYaddah · 20/10/2010 21:12

Oh god ggirl I'd adore seperate bedrooms - mentioned that to DH once (big mistake) he got well sulking about it - appertently it was an insulting thing to say - but it's true he keeps the light on and i like total darkness, he likes to watch TV i like silcence, And he farts and wriggles to much and likes cuddling - I need my own space!!

Anyway OP tell your DH that in 25 years you'll get a new duvet no bother!!! meanwhile he can just learn to live with it - did he not think it an issue when you never had any duvet?
