after 25 yrs of fighting for the duvet and losing i finally broke and bought two singles
Every morning I would wake with no duvet on my side and dh would have it trailing on the floor his side.

Last night was second night with singles, dh had crap sleep cos his duvet fell on floor (lololol) continuously .So he says ,I slept like a baby for once.

he says it's not suitable for single duvet on double bed cos there's no purchase Hmm as duvet doesn't hang on either side.

thanks for the rant

We should do that as I like the bed hotter than bloke does.
Couldn't sleep with someone who liked TV in bedroom and light on and snores. Would have been separate rooms from night 2.

Ixia · 20/10/2010 21:36

2 doubles here as well - tis the way forward :)

AllGoodNamesGone · 20/10/2010 21:38

We have single duvets but they are extra long ones from the Big Bed Company as normal singles on a king size bed left us with cold feet! We also have a quilt thing on top so no chilly bit in the middle.

AllGoodNamesGone · 20/10/2010 21:45

Oh and I also dream of my own room Wink

shakingleaf · 20/10/2010 21:46

YANBU - Two double duvets here as well as separate single mattresses (?sp) in a superking frame. Very continental! I don't sleep well on his softer mattress and he loathes my firm mattress. Everyone's a winner, now I just actually have to sleep in my bed and not play musical beds with the DCs as I'm prone to atm [hsmile]

gingercat12 · 20/10/2010 21:51

What took you so long? Grin

We always had separate duvets. Sometimes double, now single. I always complain in hotels as well if we have to share one. MIL is seriously bemused by this.

noeyedear · 20/10/2010 21:56

I stupidly bought kingsize duvets for our superking bed- partly because I felt superking is ridiculous, but DH refuses to believe he would be able to sleep on a kingsize, and partly because we were a bit skint after furnishing our house and kingsize was cheaper. The moaning about duvet pulling is relentless! I end up with a postage size bit of duvet while he is moaning about me pulling it!I could relent, but I would then have to buy a summer, winter and duvet covers! We have 2 king size duvets at the moment, but they still end up im a mess in the middle, or pulled because it's too cold!

bran · 20/10/2010 21:59

Did you throw away the old duvet? Let him have the old kingsize and you have your single.

kodokan · 20/10/2010 22:04

Another 'been doing it for years' here too. DH has a double (he likes to roll up like a cocoon) and I have a single; his is also a warmer tog rating. And we too have a 6ft bed. Practical sleepers, us. Highly recommend it to those with problems of duvet hogging and the cold gap down the middle between the bodies.

brimfull · 20/10/2010 22:05

stll hve the kingsize
he could have that i suppose
anyway he's gone to bed now with blankie on top of his duvet
i can't believe it's taken me 25 yrs ot do this

Same here - super kingsize bed and two double duvets - bliss!!

JetLi · 20/10/2010 22:16

I might do this.

DP wakes up regularly, wrapped up like a sodding swiss roll complaining he's too hot. And then there's moi, dithering on the other side of the bed with not a cover in sight [hangry]

ggirl - unrelated to duvet-stealers but I saw another (old) thread - do you put the cast iron pan supports off your cooker in the dishwasher? TIA

brimfull · 20/10/2010 22:18

JetLi-no I don't , have been very tempted but apparently they aren't meant to go in.
Think I got that from Brittainia website.

happiestblonde · 20/10/2010 22:18

That's the best idea ever - 2 double duvets.

Luckily DP is warm, doesn't snore aside rather cute heavy breathing now and then, and never moves once he's asleep. He really is a bit of a dream to sleep with and now I can't sleep the 2 nights a week he's away for work :(

southernsoftie · 20/10/2010 22:19

ccp - we sleep snuggled (except in summer when get too hot).

Will swap all your duvet hoggers for my snorer!

JetLi · 20/10/2010 22:20

Thanks for that - I read the same. Back to scrubbing then

BalloonSlayer · 20/10/2010 22:20

Goodness but Mumsnet is a revelation.

I never thought of doing that and am very surprised that so many people do. Well I never!

Out of interest, do you have "his and hers" covers? The Stig or Black and Grey for him and Cath Kitson or Hello Kitty for you?

brimfull · 20/10/2010 22:21

of course i now cannot afford to go out and get two doubles and covers Angry

knew I should've asked on mumsnet first-dammit

emptyshell · 20/10/2010 22:30

ggirl - we have one of those two in one type ones anyway where you combine a medium tog and light tog to make a toasty tog one.

So I just shoved one in the proper duvet cover and one in one of my spare duvet covers and stick them on the bed seperately.

Other reason I did it was he cheats and tucks the duvet under him so I end up with a draughty bit, made worse by the cat then sitting between us, dropping the middle down and pulling my miniscule entitlement even further over. Between bloke and cat I don't know who is the worse bed-hog (cat will literally lie under the cover with her head on the pillow between us if we let her).

Thought about the separate bed thing but the spare bed's one of those daybed style ones you can pile up with cushions so lanky can't fit in it - and I'm not relinquishing the double bed.

We have a Kingsize on our double bed and a single.

Husband sleeps underneath the duvet, I sleep on top of it with the single.

I keep the duvet in place with my weight for him, the extra thickness makes the mattress softer for me and neithe of us gets cold!!

DH routinely accuses me of being weird for this arrangement. So glad to know I'm not!!

ilovehens · 21/10/2010 14:56

My hubby and I have a double duvet each Grin. We roll ourselves up in them like sausages and keep nice and warm.

No more duvet hogging! Grin

indiewitch · 21/10/2010 15:01

We have two single duvets and it's great. Also have a futon laid out at the foot of the bed if one of us is disturbing the other too much or my back is bad and I need a really hard surface to sleep on. Works for us. Really would love my own room though, my aunt and uncle have a room each (since kids moved out) and I'm very jealous.

moomoo1967 · 21/10/2010 15:52

We have separate houses Grin
