to think that the Goverment's plans for Social Housing are disastrous

Are beloved Govt are talking about charging 80 - 90% of market rents for social housing.

I'm not in favour of ridiculously low rents for council tenants, but won't this simply place thousands more people in the Housing Benefit trap of not being able to afford to work?

Uncontrolled property prices have contributed significantly to our society of haves and have nots and private rental prices must be keeping so many people chained to Housing Benefit. The average price for a 3 bedroom property in our area is around the £1000 per month mark. How can that be affordable to someone on a low wage? Ditto £900 PCM.

How will this work apart from going back to some Victorian era of cramming families into one bedroom?

Gin anyone?

salizchap

This is still a big country, you know, is not just London and South Devon

In the last 10 years I had 5 different jobs and moved 11 properties - because I eiter could not afford or had to take a job where there was a job and not where everyone comes for a holiday

ScaryMoaningArrrggghhhs · 19/10/2010 23:06

Baker ahds 2 loaves that benefit claimants pay £1 each for

they don;t have a pound, they ahve 50p

residents from somewhere else have 75p and see it is nice where benefit claimant buys his bread

baker sells bread to new people

benefit claimants is left in a homless accom visitng ehr kids in foster care (and they would be, SSD said so, homeless hostel can't take asd kids) and waiitng until she gets to the top of a 30k long list for bread

CardyMow · 19/10/2010 23:06

Just to clarify, our LA pays UP TO 50% of the rent via HB if you are in employment of any sort. So someone on £12K pa still has to find half their rent. And there's a vast difference between finding £225 a month and finding £450 a month when you only bring home £1000 a month. Do the fucking maths.

Mostly aimed at TTP

ScaryMoaningArrrggghhhs · 19/10/2010 23:07

'or had to take a job where there was a job and not where everyone comes for a holiday

May I refer you to my earlier thread in AIBU entitled something along the line sof most people getting HB already have a bloody job!

it's not a matter of moving people to the jobs, when they have them.

threetimespink · 19/10/2010 23:08

I rent a room if that is all I can afford

a flat - if that is all I can afford

move to another city and commute if I cannot afford Richmond or Wimbledon or Acton Town for that sake

Of course I would love to leave in a huge house in the Lake District, or Rock, or the Cotswolds

Coz I am entitled to it too.....

ScaryMoaningArrrggghhhs · 19/10/2010 23:08

here we go

Funny how many want to tell people to move to work, yet few rspond to the news that many have it already

TethHearseEnd · 19/10/2010 23:08

"In the last 10 years I had 5 different jobs and moved 11 properties - because I eiter could not afford or had to take a job where there was a job and not where everyone comes for a holiday"

three, what impact has moving 11 times in 10 years had on your children?

threetimespink · 19/10/2010 23:09

So you move to a property you CAN afford on YOUR CURRENT INCOME

and if you don't like the size or the view or either - you move the area and the job

expatinscotland · 19/10/2010 23:10

Okay, but the private landlord can't rent a room to an entire family because of the bylaws - he could end up getting sued or losing his ability to let at all in some councils.

So there goes that.

threetimespink · 19/10/2010 23:10

or play National Lottery

threetimespink · 19/10/2010 23:10

or squat into Buckingham Palace

ScaryMoaningArrrggghhhs · 19/10/2010 23:11

3times would uyou rent a room with 4 children? when 2 are disabled? (yes thanks we had great incomes when they were all conceived)?

It wouyldn't be possible for vus: SSD ibnsist ds1 and ds3 should have a room themselves, ds3 doesn;t atm but we get by. We couldn;t with ds1, he injured people.,

Get real; if you ahave that flexibility you are IMO very lucky indeed.

Not dependant on special needs provision, 3 month to a year waits for a carers assessment, etc.

Yay you

threetimespink · 19/10/2010 23:11

So you move, and there is none to do the job and they raise salaries...

This is not a communist country...

expatinscotland · 19/10/2010 23:11

right, what if you can't do that, three. because all you can afford is a flatshare or a studio and you have kids and well, no private landlord will rent to you.

do you hire out the kids?

Tortington · 19/10/2010 23:12

but the properties aren't there

and people are practically SHOUTING that they have jobs.

so you want them to give up jobs

take kids out of schools

so they can move 300 miles to a sink estate where they can afford the rent?

thereby claiming more benefits?

is that the plan?

threetimespink · 19/10/2010 23:13

You make your choices

You earn first and make sure you can provide for those kids and then have all the fun

You want to keep all the fun to yourself and have me pay for that???

No way

TethHearseEnd · 19/10/2010 23:14

three, please answer my question about the impact on your children; perhaps they have adapted well?

Also, how do you envisage keyworkers being forced to choose between the city they work in and a flat in which they can accommodate their family? If all of them follow your advice and move away, then our larger cities will be... well, fucked.

threetimespink · 19/10/2010 23:14

Correct - if the job doesn't pay - it is not a job, you move

This is not a communist state - why do I have to repeat myself

You make choices and you take responsibility for that

ScaryMoaningArrrggghhhs · 19/10/2010 23:14

W e DID earn first!

Arwe you not listening?

DH was a transport managher; I was a charity maNAGER

i HAD TO BECOME A CARER

dh WAS MADE REDUNDANT AND HAS STARTED HIS OWN BUSINESS A YEAR AGO

SANCTIMONIOUS CRAP

I paid NI for years and years becuase I thought I was behaving responsibly and there would a safety net should I ever need it.

Increasingly there is not.

TethHearseEnd · 19/10/2010 23:15

three, are you saying that only those earning over £25,000pa should have children?

ScaryMoaningArrrggghhhs · 19/10/2010 23:15

Do you think we chose autism? Seriously?

threetimespink · 19/10/2010 23:15

I have explained the impact on the children:

you have your fun only once you can securily provide for the results of that fun

ScaryMoaningArrrggghhhs · 19/10/2010 23:16

hardly teath,we earned £40k+ between us.

We are still wrong, somehow.

TethHearseEnd · 19/10/2010 23:16

three, do you have children?

TethHearseEnd · 19/10/2010 23:17

"you have your fun only once you can securily provide for the results of that fun"

Are you saying you're a virgin?
