sterlizing drug addicts

Should people who cannot look after their childen be sterilized?

The cutbacks are affecting everyone and why should we throw money at people who will eventually have their children put into care at great expense to the taxpayers

If you cannot look after your children you should not have them

Yes totally...those who have ever given their children fruitshoots or let them stay up late on a school night should not have children.

Eugenics should be resisted in all its forms. Nothing else to say on that one.

FlyingInTheCLouds · 18/10/2010 20:07

YANBU at all.

I believe that poor people or those that may become poor should be sterilised.

Also people who support Man. United,

Not quite sure how I feel about fruit shoot drinkers though, surely after awhile all the aspartame just turns them infertile anyway so the operation would be a waste of (hard working) tax payers money.

nickytwotimes · 18/10/2010 20:08

Maybe sterilise people who are only able to think in a totally reactionary way?

scurryfunge · 18/10/2010 20:10

Ah, hadn't thought of that FITC....maybe the makers of fruitshoots are actually in the pay of a Nazi scientific study to bring about mass sterilisation of a certain group in society.

EdgarAllInPink · 18/10/2010 20:10

there is already a thread about this in 'in the news'. but more sensibly phrased.

DwainRooney · 18/10/2010 20:11

It was on the news today.
A drug addict was given £200 pound to be steralized by an American charity which thinks this should be the case

It as already happened

OP posts:
GypsyMoth · 18/10/2010 20:11

scurryfunge · 18/10/2010 20:12

A drug addict will do anything for £200.

DwainRooney · 18/10/2010 20:13

Does that make this kind of thing easier to swallow

OP posts:
GypsyMoth · 18/10/2010 20:14

It's just wrong to "bribe" someone at their most vurnerable simple as that do not agree with it at all- same as I do not agree with ppl being able to buy kidneys.

larks35 · 18/10/2010 20:20

I think this post has probably arisen from the news story that some American "charity" is coming to Bristol to offer money to drug addicts and alcoholics to get sterilised.

I only heard this on the local news this morning while getting a lift with my friend. We had quite an argument about this and I ended up changing the subject.

Where is the charity in buying someone's fertility? Especially if that person is likely to sell their soul for their next fix but could actually do with some better support to come off the drugs. It stinks of fascism in it's nastiest form...cherrydee.

Just looked up to get news links and have realised it ain't just Bristol the charity aim to "help" www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/us-charity-offer-addicts-cash-for-sterilisation-bribe-2109629.html

ScaryMoaningArrrggghhhs · 18/10/2010 20:24

There was a man on teh radio who was a drug addict and is now clean with a child he clearly adored.

many, many people turn their lives around; I support reversible contraception being amde widely available at drugs needle exchanges etc (eg implant- might already happen, not my field of expertise) but not sterilisation for that very reason, and especially not for mooney.

ScaryMoaningArrrggghhhs · 18/10/2010 20:25

Is there a true voluntary when you offer an addict cash?

girlylala0807 · 18/10/2010 20:27

Im studying the Holocaust this year and we have just been looking at Nazi policies which included sterilizing undesirables(sp).

I honestly can see why people see this as a solution. However, it is never justifiable.

You are going to have to excuse me as I really struggle to articulate what im trying to say.

People have rights. All people. People make mistakes. People can be helped when they want to be. Should people who need help go on to have children we have systems in place in the uk to assist, however good or bad they may be. You cannot remove someones rights to create a life due to some bad choices they have made.

We as a society cannot go back to what the nazis did and chery pick people who we think would be most suited to creating life. It bothers me that people think this is acceptable.

Sorry again if im not clear

TanteAC · 18/10/2010 20:29

Have been seething about this all day. Why is a 'cash incentive' necessary?

Arghhhh can't even get into this!
