There are a few posters who do this.

I really don't like it, totally changes the "voice" of the post in my head.

What I meant.... were posts that go... a bit like this.... all the way through.... which forces me to read them... pausing in my head...again and again...which drives me nuts...

No, no, no it can't be 4! 3 is correct.

Tortington · 11/10/2010 22:25

i punctuate with dashes - a bit like this - so i don't really have much room to call anyone!

but yeah, it fucks me off

emkana · 11/10/2010 22:25

I apologize... for being so imprecise...in my OP... especially for RandomMusings as it made... her feel bad...

I wonder, Emkana, whether you are being influenced by the posts that go something like this:

(BTW I'm cringing at the thought of what I am about to do. And apologies to RandomMusings - I just picked a random post with several sentences.)

look - you are all doing it to trail orf at the end of a sentence. that is fine,,,,But to do it mid-sentence is MADDENING,,,,Llinks arms with Emkana,,,,blows raspberries,,,

Why?

... = a fanfare (duh!duh!duh!!!!) which I can't help but hear everytime I see it after teaching children how to read out aloud a sentence ending in ... duh!duh!duh!!!
No-one uses apostrophes though - apart from smiley winking ;-)

MmeBodyInTheBasement · 11/10/2010 22:39

ok...I agree that there have been a lot of posters doing this... and it seems to be getting more and more popular... and I do wonder why they do it... this is not a dig at anyone in particular.

SM.does.lots.of.full.stops.too.

DiscoSquish · 11/10/2010 22:41

Argh I do all of it. I use ellipsises (ellipsii?) loads, AND dashes - AND I always put a full stop at the end. Well if I'm not finishing with an ellipsis I do...

Guacamole · 11/10/2010 22:42

Guilty... I always do it! But if it bothers you so much... I can try and stop...

RandomMusings · 11/10/2010 22:42
Miffles · 11/10/2010 22:42

Emkana so agree with you on this:

"What I meant.... were posts that go... a bit like this.... all the way through.... which forces me to read them... pausing in my head...again and again...which drives me nuts..."

I read what you wrote and found myself stop starting in my head. Feel a bit sea sick after reading it!!

ThighsWideShut · 11/10/2010 22:44

I actually do this. I do this a lot. I like it. It makes me feel happy in my middle. And I'm not going to stop.

And I'm not going to do it now, just to spite you.

And yes, YABVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVU Grin

ThighsWideShut · 11/10/2010 22:45

Ah, have just read some more posts.

I... don't... do... this...

I only do this... if I want to leave an air of mystery around me.

So you all want to read on and can't wait for my next posting...

HeathcliffMoorland · 11/10/2010 22:46

I do it if I sort of have more to say but can't quite pinpoint what.

As long as your distaste only manifests itself as non-violent grumpiness, feel free. Smile

ThighsWideShut · 11/10/2010 22:47

I never got this sign -> ::

(not the arrow, the dots)

I started a thread on it asking why people were putting it into sentences ::like this:: but no one ever replied.

Jellykat · 11/10/2010 22:47

I do it... AND this!!...AND this-... GUILTY!! if there were arrows on this keyboard i'd stick them in too!!.. God, ya can't beat a good squiggly arrowWink

Miffles · 11/10/2010 22:48

Please, someone, tell me what

HTH

at the end of a post means.

emkana · 11/10/2010 22:49

hope that helps

OP posts:
Miffles · 11/10/2010 22:50

ah. yes, of course! I kind of thought it was heres to hope. But that didn't really make sense!
