There are a few posters who do this.

I really don't like it, totally changes the "voice" of the post in my head.

OP posts:
BelligerentGhoul · 11/10/2010 22:15

It isn't three full stops, as has been said already.

It has a point and isn't done simply to irritate Emkana.

I do it...

so shoot me...

:)

Ineed2 · 11/10/2010 22:16

LOL...Grin

RandomMusings · 11/10/2010 22:16

all these examples are asseptable Wink

It's the posts that go...like this... a sort of stream of consciousness.. very tricky to... read and incredibly annoying

so ner

exexpat · 11/10/2010 22:16

....but how do you feel about the posters who always start their posts this way? I can think of at least one...

emkana · 11/10/2010 22:16

Yes yes I see the usefulness and all, trailing off into thought, very good -

but after every single blooming sentence??

OP posts:
Mspontipine · 11/10/2010 22:16

I think I do that...

emkana · 11/10/2010 22:17

Thank you RandomMusings - was beginning to doubt my sanity!

OP posts:
KatyMac · 11/10/2010 22:17

Rather than ellipsis' or ellipsi...

IHeartKingThistle · 11/10/2010 22:17

I do it and I stand by it. We need all the punctuation choices we can get when we don't have tone of voice and that sort of thing. I'm always terrified of being misunderstood and people thinking I'm annoying.

I don't think I am...

nancydrewrocked · 11/10/2010 22:17

I use it...

Shorthand for saying "there is of course more to this very worthy debate but I have made my point and can no longer to be engaged in spelling ot out to the rest of you morons..."

Or sometimes it just means I can no longer be arsed...

2shoes · 11/10/2010 22:18

well I do....
so yabu
if you don't like it tough.....

RandomMusings · 11/10/2010 22:19

look - you are all doing it to trail orf at the end of a sentence. that is fine.

but to do it mid-sentence is MADDENING

nancydrewrocked · 11/10/2010 22:20

...and since I do do it all the time cn I take the OP as a personal attack...?

Please...please...I've never been the subject of a MN personal attack in the OP but I'm up for it...I'm 'ard!

And OP did you really think posters were just being decorative with their fullstops?

thefirstmrsDeVere · 11/10/2010 22:21

I do it all the time. Its my thing.....

BUT I once had a weird FB message conversation ruck with my OH's twat of a neice (adult) and she wrote...like...this..all...the...way..through...about...twenty...messages...

Now THAT is annoying.......

BitOfFunderthepatio · 11/10/2010 22:21

Some posters do it constantly, and it does make them look a bit flakey, tbh...but then again, if you always end with a full stop, you can look rather dogmatic. So there.

chegggersplayspop · 11/10/2010 22:21

But the op said it was at the end of sentences.....

I agree though.....mid sentence is a little.....irritating

Miffles · 11/10/2010 22:21

i love that there is a name for it!!

Ellipsis...hmm...

LilMsUnfortunateAxeIncident · 11/10/2010 22:21

I'm one of those posters you mention, aren't I...?

I know I do it.

I intend to... it's not an accident. I use it to trail off an idea which isn't so cut and dried.

I've even been known to use four at times....

laweaselmys · 11/10/2010 22:22

I love elipses... but I can't spell it.

Annoying or not?

Pogleswood · 11/10/2010 22:22

I think it should behave like "crisis",KatyMac - so crisis,crises - ellipsis,ellipses,but I could be wrong...I often am...

Flakey? Well,really...

Theincrediblesulk1 · 11/10/2010 22:22

Yanbu i have always preferred 4 .... much better, more symmetrical

BelligerentGhoul · 11/10/2010 22:23

Tis deffo ellipses.

KatyMac · 11/10/2010 22:23

I have to say I have used one in a text...but only once

chegggersplayspop · 11/10/2010 22:23

I have to fight the urge to end my sentences with exclamation marks! I am sure you would find that a lot more annoying! But I can't help myself!!!

BitOfFunderthepatio · 11/10/2010 22:24

No, no, no. It has to be three. Any more is just wrong.
