he is funny and a bit frumpy and grumpy but there may be a beast of a man in there waiting to be released from under the sensible jumper and chinos.

Right with you there. Curiously attractive.

NotAnotherBrick · 11/10/2010 18:50

gapbear · 11/10/2010 18:50

YABU - you should be completely in love with him. Sigh.

Bigmouthstrikesagain · 11/10/2010 18:52

YANBU, love love love him.

bigfootbeliever · 11/10/2010 19:15

smallwhitecat - shame you've been rubbished in the past for your feelings about this - one of the not so good things about MN at the moment.

David is curiously likeable in very limited opinion.

I've not noticed David Mitchell telling jokes against disabled people? Boyle and Carr yes (that's why I don't like them although at least F Boyle is horrid to everyone, I suppose) but not D Mitchell.

small - I merely asked what he'd done. Haven't seen/read/heard him using that word . If I did, I'd object, although not if the point of the joke was to show how stupid people who use that language are.

I'm not in favour of comedians who dress up discrimination as humour, as it happens. Objected to F Boyle's hideous live routine on DS, for instance (was one of the people on a thread here insisting it was wrong).

Bigmouthstrikesagain · 11/10/2010 19:35

I had no idea he had such loathsome opinions SWC - I am basing my opinion on what I have seen/heard of him, which does not relate to the belittling of vulnerable groups.

You should not be given a hard time for making people question their predjudices around issues of disability or difference either. Sad

I have not heard him use that phrase possibly he has on 'peepshow' but tbh I would have to read/ hear what he had to say on the matter before I condemned him and withdrew my love.

otchayaniye · 11/10/2010 19:40

which David Mitchell?

Author of Cloud Atlas and Number 9 Dream, or Peep Show actor and comedian?

Bigmouthstrikesagain · 11/10/2010 19:41

peep show

otchayaniye · 11/10/2010 19:42

if it's the comedian, bigmouth, you'd be a long time waiting, shall we say.

Dancergirl · 11/10/2010 19:44

YANBU

I love him too! I would marry him if I wasn't already happily married. And he's soooo funny - I love him on Would I lie to you...

HeadlessLadyBiscuit · 11/10/2010 19:57

swc - I haven't heard him using 'spaz' as an insult either. Are you sure?

Bigmouthstrikesagain · 11/10/2010 20:49

Otch - are you saying he bats for the other team? or...?Confused

gateacre1 · 11/10/2010 21:13

He is definetely curiously attractive
along with the presenter from grand designs and Michel Roux jnr
( I really fancy boffins)
I clearly have bizarre taste- and its not just because I am pregnant and hormonal!

I haven't heard him say anything offensive - he always seems the least offensive person and more likely to poke fun at himself or at least set himself up so that others can.

OP, on what I have seen, YANBU, I have often thought the same myself.

knottyhair · 12/10/2010 14:05

I really really like his personality and used to fancy him a bit, until there was a photo in Heat magazine (yes, I'm sad and read it every week)snogging a woman, and he looked like he was going to swallow her whole head. Put me off a bit Sad.
