he is funny and a bit frumpy and grumpy but there may be a beast of a man in there waiting to be released from under the sensible jumper and chinos.

Oh, and definitely with gateacre1 regarding Michel Roux jnr Smile.

smallwhitecat - I do find it depressing that the only form of discrimination that is taken seriously is racism. It seems to trump any other form - sexism, prejudice against disabled people, homophobia and everything else.

Ceri whatshisface, editor of Radio 4's Today programme, would have been sacked if he'd said Black and ethnic minority people weren't good enough to present his show. But he said it about women, so that's apparently OK then...

sparechange · 12/10/2010 15:59

Ceri Thomas - horrible man. I've had the misfortune to work with him twice and he is none more 'student politics'. Thinks he knows everything and refuses to entertain anyone elses opinion. Rude, rude man.

David on the otherhand. The least showy man in the world.
Smallwhitecat - I am an avid watcher of his programmes and have never heard him use offensive language. And I think to expect him to refuse to appear on the same programmes as those who have is extreme to say the least. Can you name another comedian who has taken that stance?

lennon80 · 12/10/2010 16:04

I love him too. Also I have NEVER heard him say anything offensive. Is this person talking about his peepshow character perhaps? I particularly love watching him on question time!

HeadlessLadyBiscuit · 12/10/2010 16:30

swc - I would not fancy him at all if I thought he was disablist. But I have never heard him say anything remotely offensive and I watch his panel shows quite a lot.

So was he appearing with people who use the word spazz or did he actually say it? I think there's a difference.

I think there is a huge lack of education about why calling someone a spazz (or any other disablist term) is offensive. Have you tried writing to any of these comedians? It might make them think.

FlyingInTheCLouds · 12/10/2010 19:01

smallwhitecat, you have a very strong

point. I completely agree that if he appeared

had appeared with Bernard Manning that I and many others would be most unimpressed.

I rarely feel as if I have missed something that with a little thought is blatantly unacceptable.

thank you. I will ponder this some more.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 12/10/2010 19:11

Here.

I've debated DM and his use of the word spazz before. So instead of repeating myself, I'll just link the previous debate.

I very much like David Mitchell.

HeadlessLadyBiscuit · 12/10/2010 19:57

I think I'm going to reserve judgement then SoH - not least because no one on this or the other thread seems to have given an actual instance of him saying it. I'd like to be able to judge whether I think someone is a twat or not by what they say, rather than what some random person on a message board thinks he said.

Themasterandmargaritas · 12/10/2010 19:59

As soon as I saw the title I knew you'd be here SOH. You are so predictable. (and a little bit angry apparently)

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 12/10/2010 20:44

I'm anger personified. You've met me. Regular ball of rage.

Rosedee · 12/10/2010 20:56

I've met David mitchell, he seemed really nice and willing to chat and not 'celebrity' at all. And he's bloody funny. I don't love him though. Or fancy him.

JamInMyWellies · 12/10/2010 21:00

Hahaha TMAM, SOH knew it when I saw the title too. Grin

MrsColumbo · 12/10/2010 21:05

I do like David Mitchell.

But I like Charlie Brooker even more.

thenamehaschanged · 12/10/2010 21:17

fwiw I think jimmy carr looks like a vampire! He was the after dinner speaker at the NHS conference I was at and he absolutely bombed and finished his set early, it was excrutiating and I wouldn't have liked to have been in his position, but then he was being offensive about people with disabilities and thought we'd all laugh Hmm

FellatioNelson · 12/10/2010 22:41

Oh God, not another one. There are thousands of you on here. It's a bit like the moonies. It's even starting to get to me a bit - I can't just ignore him anymore - I keep looking for the attractive angle because of you lot.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 12/10/2010 22:53

Fellatio, it's just good sense.

He's beautiful.

Themasterandmargaritas · 13/10/2010 11:41

Why can you all just be in love with Brad Pitt?

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 13/10/2010 11:46

Eugh.

Brad Pitt gives me the heebie jeebies. He's wildly unattractive.

FellatioNelson · 13/10/2010 16:14

He looks like a monkey. And I think he's probably got a few more rainbow children living in that beard.

No, I think the argument was about intent and education, not about social acceptability at all. Nobody on that thread argued it was socially acceptable.

Do you have the same opinion of every person who has ever appeared on Mock The Week (and every other panel show that Carr for example is on)? Because that's a lot of comedians. Should your ire perhaps be directed at the producers of the programme, maybe the channel which allows those individuals' comments to be broadcast?

Because it's all very well and good to say that 75% of today's known comics should refuse to appear on panel shows, but they have to make their money somehow and why should they be responsible for the disgusting and morally reprehensible comments spewed forth from pond scum like Jimmy Carr?

I think you'll find that Jimmy Carr doesn't limit his comedy to disablist crap. Ditto Frankie Boyle. So by default I am already consistent.

And no at no point did I suggest you should be weeping for impoverished comics. You're putting words in my mouth.

I already said I wouldn't get into this again, I did that on the other thread.
