I totally agree with him apart from the GF bit Grin

but he is actually right....

shrugs shoulders,

he is 100% right. (INCLUDING GF bit) Sorry, but he IS!

Mishy1234 · 11/10/2010 12:46

I agree OP.

Definitely NOT including the GF bit!

tuggy · 11/10/2010 12:46

Yeah sorry GF works. YABU!

MsHighwater · 11/10/2010 12:50

Like anyone else, he only has his own direct experience (of his own kids) and observation (of his friends' kids) to go on. He makes judgements on that (we all do that). What he misses out is that "it works" for them. What I did worked for me and it wasn't GF.

I confess I laughed at the comparison to communism, though.

Oh, and I give my dd crisps so I don't 100% agree with even the food stuff!

Rosa · 11/10/2010 12:59

Great article - GF it worked for him fine ( not getting into the age old ...yawn ....debate)

TanteRose · 11/10/2010 13:04

good article.

pmsl at GF is like communism!

actually, surely the word he was looking for was totalitarianism Grin

Hassled · 11/10/2010 13:06

The man's a God as far as I'm concerned. It was a great article - not sure how his or his wife's GF views are relevant to either us or the article; each to their own as far as I'm concerned.

I think he deserves a hell of a lot more respect than he seems to have.

faverolles · 11/10/2010 13:08

OP, YANBU - GF did nothing for my dc, but funnily enough, we never had 2am bedtimes, ever!
I think saying GF works for everyone is like saying everyone likes fish.
My dsis first 2 babies were classic GF babies, it worked amazingly. Her 3rd dc did not fit the mould, and despite working at it for nearly a year, he never conformed!

gapbear · 11/10/2010 13:08

Love Jamie.
Can't bear GF, but if it works for other people, great. No skin off my nose, is it?

But with crisps / fizzy drink thing - I think he was provoked a bit there. I know when I see babies being fed coke in a bottle (see it a lot on the Underground, for some reason) I'm thinking more or less what he said.

BrigitteBardot · 11/10/2010 13:09

I agree. I started to like him with the "Chicken campaign" and my respect has been growing and growing.

MmeBodyInTheBasement · 11/10/2010 13:12

Very good article, such as shame that he feels misunderstood.

The crisp comment was taken out of context. If you had seen a woman giving her baby coke out of a bottle, you would have perhaps been proved to rage a bit about people giving their kids coke and crisps.

How they get their DC to bed at night is their beer, and nothing to do with anyone else. We were on a mix - we stuck to strict(ish) bedtimes while the DC were young and never had a problem with getting them to bed. Did not do the whole GF thing.

BrigitteBardot · 11/10/2010 13:16

I have also stuck to strict bedtime routine (after 8 months or so). My GF comment was tongue in cheek!

I like Jamie Oliver. Glad that GF works for them, I've never tried it!

JoBettany · 11/10/2010 13:18

GF worked very well for me. I had a very contented baby!

Absolutely respect what JO is doing for children in this country. At least he is trying rather bleating away about his DC's not getting a square of Green & Blacks dark chocolate with their lunch box!!!

PfftTheMagicDragon · 11/10/2010 13:40

I feel a bit sorry for him. Only a bit though. I think he doesn't help his cause in that he tries very hard to come across a certain way but fails. But he is trying hard with healthy eating and it is important.

Meglet · 11/10/2010 13:43

I love Jamie and GF.

IMoveTheStars · 11/10/2010 16:21

Do people really feed babies coke in a bottle? Why on earth would anybody do that? Shock

Hopefully it's actually something like red bush tea [hopes]

Ryuk · 11/10/2010 16:26

What's GF?

Itsjustafleshwound · 11/10/2010 16:28

I do admire JO and his food crusade, but won't take his advice on childcare - he named his son Buddy FGS!

IMoveTheStars · 11/10/2010 16:34

Ryuk - Gina Ford

ijafw - what's the name of his son got to do with anything?

Itsjustafleshwound · 11/10/2010 16:38

Absolutely nothing!! Grin

Buddy - I ask you ...

IMoveTheStars · 11/10/2010 16:40
Grin
Morloth · 11/10/2010 16:43

I can't be the only one who wants to smack his smug face everytime I see him can I? God he irritats me, just a fucking tosser.

BrigitteBardot · 11/10/2010 16:50

"Do people really feed babies coke in a bottle? Why on earth would anybody do that?" Yes I see quite often kids in prams with fizzy drinks in cups or bottles.

Shock
