to be scared of namechanging?

My username is rubbish and I want a better one. I have come up with some better names but every time I decide to change it, I get as far as the "save" button and chicken out.

I haven't been posting very long so it is not as though anyone is going to be wondering if I have suddenly been hit by a bus, but I still find it strangely unnerving. It feels as though I am doing the online equivalent of dying my hair, sticking on a fake beard and running off to the other side of the country and calling myself Dave.

Am I just weird?

Yes Dave you are .... and there's your new name, weirddave.

RedWellyYellowWelly · 10/10/2010 09:35

Just do it.
I've had 3 namechanges this week alone. I just can't find a name that fits.

Panzee · 10/10/2010 09:36

I namechanged. I was going through some tough times and received lots of help and advice. This went on for a few weeks, and I was starting to feel like I was defined by "the event".
I decided to namechange to give myself a fresh start, and it seems to have worked! I don't feel like I am hiding, just the opposite.

Northernlurker · 10/10/2010 09:36

What are the new names? Can you combine the annec bit?

Errrr annecklace, annnecxthingis, annecdotally, annnecdoteisnotthesameasevidence?

(I know those are a bit lame Grin)

JoBettany · 10/10/2010 09:37

I think you should do it. I was totally fed up with my old name and love this new one. It was a thread like this that persuaded me to do it!

annec555 · 10/10/2010 09:37

[pouts] I don't think I want to be weirddave. Anyway, what would happen if I really wanted to run away and call myself Dave? All anyone would have to do would be to look on MN and track me down.

Panzee · 10/10/2010 09:38

FiveFiftyFive?

peeringintothevoid · 10/10/2010 09:39

Northernlurker Grin at annecdoteisnotthesameasevidence.

annec555 · 10/10/2010 09:42

Northernlurker - I think those are too clever for me. I just sat silently mouthing the last one several times before I realised what it said!
I was thinking of kungfupannda but I was worried that people would just think I couldn't spell the panda bit.

Or horsemumoftheappocalypse.

OP posts:
Panzee · 10/10/2010 09:43

What about FungKuPanda?

Panzee · 10/10/2010 09:43

Or KungPoPanda?

This?

TandB · 10/10/2010 09:49

Or this?

pressyourthumbs · 10/10/2010 09:53

I'm always namechanging. May do it again today. Hmm.

Rockbird · 10/10/2010 09:57

I'm namechanging today. I've been saving my one up for ages as it suits me down to the ground.

YunoYurbubson · 10/10/2010 10:00

I usually name change a LOT. I've stuck on this one for ages though. It's my favourite since BroccoliSpears.

FerrisBueller · 10/10/2010 10:05

i've been this for a week now. nobody noticed my last persona had vanished. vipers.

i'm considering another change later though - there's not much i can do with this for a festive tint.

indiewitch · 10/10/2010 10:05

I name change all the time, I like to reflect the changing seasons and festivals. I thought this was normal.

iPodge · 10/10/2010 10:08

Have changed. Ta-da!

iPodge · 10/10/2010 10:08

(tis Rockbird btw, not the OP)

You'll get confused with the fish with that one.

fedupofnamechanging · 10/10/2010 10:33

I've namechanged once. It is a bit weird at first and I felt as if I was changing my identity, but I soon got used to it. Will change again, when I think of something I like.
