5yr olds peeing in the bushes

Yesterday on the walk home from school my friend's ds stopped for a pee in the bushes. A mother and her dd came by and really had a go at both mum and her ds. She basically said he should not be exposing himself to her dd. I was shocked and thought she was seriously overreacting, AIBU?

Little kids having a wee in the bushes is no biggy to me. I reckon after about the age of 8 you need to rein it in a bit but before that it is fine. Why someone would think peeing into a plastic bag and then putting it in the bin is any better is beyond me.

Is one of the few times a skirt is more practical than a pair of jeans/trousers for a little girl, at least you only have to get your undies out of the way and make sure you know where your shoes are.

BonniePrinceBilly · 07/10/2010 22:05

TSC come back and say the same when your boy is out of nappies. And get a fucking grip, at least pay some attention to other posters.

I already said I don't have boys...try again sorry..and I agree they 'should' be able to hold it but sometimes thats not the case so they occassionally pee in a bush... hardly the end of the world or bad parenting 101..I'm not popping just telling it how I see it..not that important and not an indication of 'precious' parenting imo..

Yeah Wink

There is a huge difference between children"pissing all ove the show" and "being caught short half an hour from home and nipping behind a bush"

One is - or wouold be if it actually happened - unacceptable.

The other is normal life.

Caboodle · 08/10/2010 08:00

See how early it is? I had to get up and see where this was going...
Thesecondcoming...I am rushing off to tell my ds he is 'precious', although I think my meaning may be slightly different than yours. And I'm sorry but I don't think you have listened to the other posters. Think we will have to agree to disagree also.
And back to the OP..YANBU

Supercherry · 08/10/2010 08:15

YANBU. If a small child lacks bladder control then discreetly weeing in a bush is perfectly acceptable IMO. Wee is sterile, there is nothing disgusting about it.

Dogs do it 'all over the place' and no-one bats eyelid.

kerstina · 08/10/2010 09:25

I do not think it is a big deal. As other posters have mentioned dogs pooing all over the paths and parks is the real problem. Even worse on a beach. Yuk !

anonymousbird · 08/10/2010 09:29

YANBU!!!!!!!!!!

How utterly ridiculous.

What would she rather, that he wet himself?

I had to allow DS (6) to pee into a hedge recently. He was desperate. Normally he is very good and can hang on, but on this particular occasion he couldn't. Obviously we tried to be fairly subtle about it, but we were miles from any public loo and he made sure the wee went right in the hedge and didn't run all over the path...

God help us "exposing himself". She is clearly deranged.

VinaApsara · 08/10/2010 09:31

I do generally think that kids should be encouraged to hold on until a suitable public loo can be found however in an emergency there's no real option....Her objection on the grounds of indecent exposure by a 5yo is clearly barking.

My pet hate on this front is parents who let their child wee on the beach into holes dug in the sand.

BonniePrinceBilly · 08/10/2010 10:14

But the point, TSC, is that you are wrong. I have a six year old boy with a bladder problem, he occasionally has to pee in a bush, because if he didn't he would wet his pants. Would that be better for you? Hmm Its not something he can help, we have been working to improve it for years now and will soon be seeing a specialist for his night-time wetting. If you have a bright idea that we haven't already tried, I'd be delighted to hear it. Angry

Its just a bit of bloody wee, from a small child! Who gives a flying fuck? Hmm

If the mum had never seen the little boy before, then it was mean to say something. Any child can get caught out on a one-off occasion, our walk is 34-40 min home and my daughter has once had to hide behind a bush, and very difficult it was to hide her gleaming white bottom...it's so much harder with girls!

But if the other mum had seen it a few times, then fair enough. It's not ok for boys to be regularly weeing in the gutter or in a bush at the age of 5, it's not very polite for a start. I do know how difficult it is to have a child with a bladder problem, my six year old daughter had infections for a while, and wet herself a few times at school (and coped very well), we had to go before going anywhere, but we didn't have the luxury of weeing on the way home, it's just not a viable option for girls.

hmc · 08/10/2010 11:56

Perhaps I was a little harsh - but doesn't the fact that the vast majority of posters disagree with you not tell you anything?

bethw · 08/10/2010 12:21

I have on a few occasion had to stop the car to let my son 'wash the wheels'! Is that ok? Is it just bushes that are a problem? Grin

BigOfNoorks · 08/10/2010 12:27

I have incontinence issues I was told to hold as long as I could or I would always be incontinent.DS age 4 has a very weak bladder and while on 2 or 3 occasion's he has had to go in a bush he knows that when he is told to get his coat in school he is to have a pee.

But it doesn't bother me for children to be weeing outside in the slightest. But I do try to make ds wait till we get home to learn bladder control his legs starts going if he is really going to pee himself Grin.
