Strange one...

Have just received a large postcard which says on it "poison-ivy" and shows a womans with an ivy type tattoo on her back. There is no message and I have no idea who it is from.
Post mark a town I left a decade ago - though I lived there for a long time. Have kept up with only a few people from that town (apart from some others I still exchange Xmas cards but nothing else with) and I am satisfied did not come from anyone I am in proper contact with.

Why would anyone do this? Would you find it freaky? Is it some kind of inside joke I do not know about?

My name as written on the card could not have come from electoral register or bank statements etc. - it is how people who know me quite well would address me.

Oh and it is not my birthday or any kind of anniversary

Poison ivy to me is either something children would say, or it's from Batman.

It is a bit weird if you can't think of who it'd come from, could it be possible someone's still thinking about something you did when you were there?

It's a bit of a long shot though, who'd keep a grudge for over ten years and not mention it before?

Feelingsensitive · 05/10/2010 21:09

Weird.

Keep quiet about it though and see if anyone hints to find out if you got it. If you sent something like this you would want a reaction so don't give them one.

Hedgeblunder · 05/10/2010 21:09

Is it hand written? I would be worried too

headinclouds101 · 05/10/2010 21:13

Yes, it is hand written. But it it is done in calligraphy - though not a very practised looking attempt at it.

Defo agree with them wanting to provoke a reaction and for you to keep quiet about it to find out who it is.

thisisyesterday · 05/10/2010 21:15

so... is the "poison ivy" handwritten, or is that printed on the picture?

TrillianAstra · 05/10/2010 21:18

Do you have any enemies in that town?

In the batman film Poison Ivy bewitched men with special powder...

AnyFuleKno · 05/10/2010 21:18

interesting

Mumcentreplus · 05/10/2010 21:18

strange...

nannynobnobs · 05/10/2010 21:19

Strange! If it's somebody from your old town how would they know they'd got a 'reaction' from you? Could it be somebody on your Facebook who is hoping to see a status update about it? Cross check!

headinclouds101 · 05/10/2010 21:25

The poison ivy is printed.

cannot imagine anyone from old town who has my address could have any kind of grudge.

Anyone who might have a minor grudge at the moment (truly no idea why anyone would have a major one) would have had to travel a very long way to post card.

Nannynonobs - thanks for the suggestion - but I am not on Facebook.

Dont mention it to anyone who is not your partner...it could be someone you think is a friend but has some odd tendancies.

headinclouds101 · 05/10/2010 21:27

TrillianAstra - thanks for comment.

have not seen batman so assumed it was threat!
maybe it is a compliment??

OP posts:
nelliesmum · 05/10/2010 21:30

Is your name Ivy? Maybe someone just saw it and thought of you. Someone a bit weird!

thisisyesterday · 05/10/2010 21:32

i thought people also used poison ivy as a term for anyone who worms their way in and does nasty things?
there was a film too, not batman, about someone who does this

That's creepy. I hope it turns out to be something innocent, like Beertricks' idea

ShirleyKnot · 05/10/2010 21:52

Are you Drew Barrymore?

RandyRussian · 05/10/2010 22:18

Is your name Ivy?

headinclouds101 · 06/10/2010 10:19

No- my name is not Ivy or anything similar.

Most certainly am not Drew Barrymore!

Have slept on it and still have no idea about the origin.

tattoo parlour is all i can think of!

are you tattoed? do you have an interest in them?

WitchyWooWoo · 06/10/2010 10:35

could be for an art show or something along those lines, i have had postcards like that in the past from our local theatre/art gallery

mummyloveslucy · 06/10/2010 10:52

I was thinking of a tattoo parlour too.
Don't worry about it. Smile

PortBlacksand · 06/10/2010 11:03

If you google 'woman with ivy tattoo' you get loads of pictures. Maybe you can get a lead from one of them - esp if it's a new tattoo parlour or nightclub.
