Strange one...

Have just received a large postcard which says on it "poison-ivy" and shows a womans with an ivy type tattoo on her back. There is no message and I have no idea who it is from.
Post mark a town I left a decade ago - though I lived there for a long time. Have kept up with only a few people from that town (apart from some others I still exchange Xmas cards but nothing else with) and I am satisfied did not come from anyone I am in proper contact with.

Why would anyone do this? Would you find it freaky? Is it some kind of inside joke I do not know about?

My name as written on the card could not have come from electoral register or bank statements etc. - it is how people who know me quite well would address me.

Oh and it is not my birthday or any kind of anniversary

Thanks everyone.

My name is not Pamela - I don't get that reference.
I thought about a tattoo parlour as well - but I do not have any and hate them.

Art show is more my kind of thing but still not a convincing explanation to me.

Am awaiting further developments, if any...

It would freak me out as well

I thought about old mailing lists but then again they wouldnt have your current address unless you told them.

Hope everything turns out ok and there is a straight forward explanation.

New club/bar/whatever is opening and has you on a mailing list is all. Don't panic. Some eejit has given your name, probably to get a free towel set or similar.

AnyFuleKno · 06/10/2010 21:46

yes I agree with tippy actually

CheeseandGherkins · 06/10/2010 21:51

I would think of it as what thisisyesterday said. It would scare me tbh and I would also be thinking it must be from someone there that you know. You never fully know what people will do or what grudges they may hold for whatever reason. I'd be thinking about the people that live there that have your address, it must be one of those imo. Simplest answer is often the right one.

Let's face it, if it was any kind of advertisement ie a tattoo place, then they would have the address on it too.

BelleDameSansMerci · 06/10/2010 22:00

I was going to say something similar to Tippy. Sounds like advertising of some sort to me.

I looked on line and found Mistress Poison Ivy which seems to stock some, ahem, specialist items of clothing and accessories...

But why would it be postmarked from your old town ? (I'm assuming your old town is 30+ miles away)

cumfy · 06/10/2010 22:50

What are your plans for Halloween ?

cumfy · 06/10/2010 23:06

:

So, who can you think of who might send out a load of somewhat cryptic cards denoting obliquely the characters to be assumed at a Halloween fancy dress do and who else might they invite ?

TiggyD · 06/10/2010 23:13

I went to a bar/pub called Poison the other day. I believe the owners also have a tattoo parlour. Are you anything to do with Basingstoke?

plantsitter · 06/10/2010 23:17

Google 'poison ivy' + the name of your old town and see what you get.

Tippychoocks · 07/10/2010 08:48

Cumfy: But why would it be postmarked from your old town ? (I'm assuming your old town is 30+ miles away)

Because the eejit who gave her name is likely a friend from her old town?
