Followed by the sugar obviously.....

You do NOT repeat DO NOT dump the teabag, sugar and milk in the (bone china) cup/ mug/ whatever then pour hot water on top and hope for the best ?? Angry

YABU.The milk should always go in first, and sugar shouldn't be involved at all.

IMoveTheStars · 03/10/2010 14:06

If you're making tea in a cup, then the milk goes in afterwards.

If you're making it in a teapot the milk should go in first.

JeezyPeeps · 03/10/2010 14:06

YABU. There should not be any mention of milk or sugar when it comes to a good cup of tea.

onimolap · 03/10/2010 14:07

I don't put the milk in first, as I judge how much by the colour.

My mother thinks I'm peculiar.

Headbanger · 03/10/2010 14:07

YABVU. The milk goes in first.

'Tis a class matter (ain't it always Grin).

In Ye Olden Tymes, those with fine bone china teacups would put the milk in first, then the tea: boiling tea on exquisite porcelain = shattered disaster.

Those with rough clay mugs could slop in as much boiling tea as they like without cracking their cup- so tea first, milk after.

Anyway - that's what I'm told, and I like it, so I'm sticking to it Smile.

Also, sugar in tea is vomitous. That is all.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/10/2010 14:08

YABU.

You should make the tea in a teapot, then the milk goes into the cup first and the tea is poured in afterwards.

Granny23 · 03/10/2010 14:08

Tea needs freshly boiled water, ergo milk goes in last after Tbag removed.

Instant coffee OTOH is best not scalded, so milk in first and water off the boil.

Yeeehaa · 03/10/2010 14:08

Traditionally, milk was always added first.
This was to stop the boiling water from cracking the mug (the small amount of milk was enough to lower the temp)

I can't stand tea when the milk and sugar is added after, it just tastes wrong!

Each to their own!

OnlyWantsOne · 03/10/2010 14:08

YABU you must put milk in first if using bone china cups, if you put boiling tea in first you will crack the cup.

when using a mug, hot water over tea, then milk

ApocalypseCheese · 03/10/2010 14:12

Oooohhhh, you mumsnetters are a foul tea drinking strange lot at times Shock

lazycow007 · 03/10/2010 14:13

I'm in the same school of thought as the rest with milk in after if in a mug but milk in first in porcelain cup if using a teapot.

I don't use sugar i use sweetners.

Meow75 · 03/10/2010 14:13

I'm the only tea drinker I know who COULDN'T GIVE A TOSS about the order in which the components of my tea or coffee go into the mug. I honestly can't taste any difference, the only thing I insist on is PG Tips tea or Nescafe coffee. All the other brands can go f*#k themselves.

ApocalypseCheese · 03/10/2010 14:16

Sweetners ??!! Shock

Bleaches eyeballs !!!!!!!!!!

I like Tetley.

Or sainsbo's earl grey.

And it's milk first you peasants.

backwardpossom · 03/10/2010 14:24

YABU

Tea is made in the teapot, then poured into the cup which already has milk in it.

mistressploppy · 03/10/2010 14:24

I'm with Meow. Cannae tell the difference. As long as it's hot and wet....

tethersend · 03/10/2010 14:25

Isn't that the French way?

I heard that spies in WW2 were caught out by making their tea the English way, ie adding the tea to the milk.

I have no idea where I got that from.

And I don't drink tea.

Meow75 · 03/10/2010 14:27

Mistressploppy, thank goodness. I'm NOT the only one!!

Grin
DuelingFanjo · 03/10/2010 14:28

YANBU - the milk definitely goes in last, anyone with any sense knows this.

DairyleaAndPickleOnAStick · 03/10/2010 14:30

I do both, hmmm what does this say about me??!!

ApocalypseCheese · 03/10/2010 14:30

mistressploppy · 03/10/2010 14:31

Rockbird · 03/10/2010 14:31

Milk in mug
Add Yorkshire teabag
Add boiling water
Dunk lots
Remove teabag

catinthehat2 · 03/10/2010 14:46
