DD2 went to preschool today and they pulled me aside at end and said they had noticed a rash on DD2 arm. I explained its birth mark (mollted one, quite large) but it normally only really shows when cold.
Her reply was "yes well DD2 chose not to wear her coat outside so she might have been cold"! Shock

she chose! shes 3!! make her wear it. She also "chose" not to wear her shoes either so came home with wet socks in her bag.

They had earlier changed her into a short sleeved tshirt as she'd got wet Confused

AIBU? Is this standard practice now??

I think they are too young to take the consequences of not putting a coat on, as adults you simply insist.
As to Christmas-they are only the DCs of JWs-they will make up their own mind when they are old enough and so I don't see why they can't have other experiences.I have nothing against mine making Eid cards etc.

I had JW twins who wouldn't paint a dragon's costume for a mummer's play. They couldn't tell me why beyond 'mummy wouldn't like it'.
Of course I had to let them do something else, but they clearly wanted to do the painting really. It was sad.

YANBU The nursery are talking rubbish to say that it is up to the child. The first and most important aspect of the EYFS is saftey.

Going outside without shoes is silly. She could have stood on something sharp or dropped something on her feet.

When I worked in a nursery, staff were not allowed to wear open toed shoes for this reason, this is true for many work places.

Also, in nurseries and infant classes I've worked in have all had a policy of "No coat, no outside play" on cold days, and if raining they must have wellies and waterproof coat. Its common sense!!

I let dc - since about 2ish - decide about coats - if I think they will soon be cold I just keep coats handy and get to be all smug when they come and ask for them. Both of the dc take after DH and are rarely cold anyway (usually I have 3 jumpers on and they are quite happy in a cotton top and have taken their socks off...).
I make them wear something on their feet, though, and would expect this of nursery.
