to think that truely feminist stance on prostitution, is to support legalisation?

I recently moved to an inner city area.

There is a known brothel here and a homeless shelter.

I have seen some very sad, desperate sights walking past our home lately.

I wouldn't want any child of mine involved in this trade, however this does strike as something which desperately needs regulating - for the sake of the women, girls and boys involved.

Prohibition has failed miserably.

FFS!

Mumsnet was mentioned in a thread. It wasn't a topic.

Punternet is mentioned over here, so what?

I only mention MN over there after I had posted here. Why am I not allowed to be genuinely interested in telling my side of the story instead of allowing you to steam roll people into agreeing with you?

I am a Mum, therefore I read MN to see what it was all about. When I noticed the prostitution threads I posted.

Oh what a tangled web you weave Dittany.

"Punternet threads and specific people on them are not mentioned over here. People from here don't go over to Punternet to interfere with their threads and then come back here to talk about it."

You just have mentioned Punternet and specific threads/posters

I have never come here to "interfere with threads".

Why am I not allowed a voice? In your opinion

Portofino · 22/09/2010 14:13

On FB last night - half a dozen of us had our attention drawn to a post, and went over to look at it/comment. Is that trolling then? Surely only trolling if you deliberately come on here to wind people up/upset people...?

So, prostitutes posting on Mn threads about prostitution, are interfering with them? Hmm Interesting.

Mandamumu · 22/09/2010 14:24

I have never "come over here with a gang".
The first time I mentioned that I was posting here to a friend, she came over to back me up a little. You called her a "fuckhole".

I mentioned Punternet because if you looked over there, you would get to see some very intelligent ladies posting who also happen to be prostitutes.

I don't have a problem with what you say until you start to insult me, which you invariably do.

I AM being honest

I've read (and posted on) that thread dittany, I don't see any mass invasion of people who are "interfering". Why don't you want the voices of prostitutes on threads about prostitution?

Mandamumu · 22/09/2010 14:28

We didn't "come over from PN"

You just don't want anybody to disagree with you, which I would say from some of the comments in this thread is becoming apparent to several MN members at this point.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/09/2010 14:29

Sorry, wrong thread.

Aitch · 22/09/2010 14:30

blackbess, just to re-iterate, i have no major agenda, i just wanted to speak to you without you being obnoxiously flippant. i'm pleased for you that you have another job now, you certainly didn't say that in the first instance.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/09/2010 14:33

I had forgotten how offensive you were to other women till I re-read some of that thread, dittany. Thanks.

jenny60 · 22/09/2010 14:34

Are you seriously trying to tell me that most prostitutes do the job willingly, do not have drug problems, are not subjected to more violence than most women going about their jobs, and don't have a disproportionately high chance of having been sexually abused?

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/09/2010 14:37

I am seriously trying to tell you that many prostitutes are not drug-addled self-loathers, yes. Again, your information comes from surveys on street workers, who are a minority of prostitutes in this country.

As was discussed on another thread recently, nurses are subject to a great deal of violence in their jobs too. Shall we outlaw patients?

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/09/2010 14:40

Where are these discussions (note, plural) of MN threads on Punternet? Why don't you want the voices of prostitutes on threads about prostitution?

Portofino · 22/09/2010 14:40

I see NO sign of trolling. In the thread you linked to, I thought it added an interesting aspect to the debate. You Dittany spent the whole time making personal attacks - which is specifically NOT allowed. Maybe you should leave?

OLKN asks a valid question!

Mandamumu · 22/09/2010 14:41

Could somebody please read my post and then Dittany's reply and explain selective quoting and twisting people's words to her?

I don't seem to be making any headway

vesuvia · 22/09/2010 14:42

OldLadyKnowsNothing wrote - "street workers, who are a minority of prostitutes in this country."

or

as you said more accurately earlier : "street workers, who are a tiny minority (I suspect, but cannot prove) of sex workers."

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/09/2010 14:43

You accused other women of being men, of being trolls, of lying about their experiences, ad you think I twist words, dittany? It's all there, for anyone to read.

I ask again, why do you not want the voices of prostitutes on threads about prostitution? Why do a couple of such voices, in amongst many, many others, upset you so?

jenny60 · 22/09/2010 14:46

What do you mean by 'many'? The majority? The 'minority'. Most trafficked women work in brothels too (harder to escape that way) and not on the streets, but that hardly means they
are there of their own free will.

Nurses aren't trafficked, drug addicted or likely to get pregnant, STDs etc... while on their shifts. If they get punched, they have recourse to the law and it isn't the norm in their jobs in any case.
