Dad ogling pg 3 girls in playground

Strolled into school this morning with DS1 (6) to find a dad "reading" pg 3 of the Sun ( norks were in full view of the Year 2 line up ).

I thought this a tad inappropriate and asked him to turn the page, but he was really put out and huffed and puffed at me.

Tell me I was not being unreasonable.

I can't believe how many people think its fine to have tits on show in the playground

Its NOT the same as boobs on the beach, or breastfeeding and you ALL KNOW IT

au contraire,i did and do mean it was sticky beak time.and unnecessary

Ladyanonymous · 21/09/2010 19:49

Whats everyone got a problem with breasts for anyway?

What do you do when you are at the beach (which is always a place where there are a lot of kids, like a playground) and there is someone sunbathing topless? Go home or go and ask the offender to cover up so your precious dc's don't see them?! A lot of women round here sunbathe topless when they are with their kids.

Breasts are for nursing babies, but they are also sexual organs that turn men on - what is wrong with that?

Its part of life and as a child myself I always thought it was hilarious when I caught a glimpse of pg 3 or the like I certainly didn't have a deep and meaningful about the sexual gratification of women with my parents Hmm

chipmonkey · 21/09/2010 19:54

YANBU.

It's legal to drink beer, it's legal to smoke, it's legal to snog the face off your dh/dw/dp. But no-one would think it appropriate to do any of these things in a schoolyard.

Same goes for soft porn. And no, cyb, a simpering, surgically enhanced bimbo is NOT the same as breastfeeding.

scottishmummy · 21/09/2010 19:57

i have seen mums smoke at school collections.and i wouldnt dream of telling them off (and nor does anyone else) they look too fucking hard to be telling off

anotherglass · 21/09/2010 19:59

Ladyanonymous,

Nothing wrong with breasts,

Nothing wrong with men/others admiring them;

just not men ogling bare breasts in the playground.

He was looking at a newspaper FGS....you probably drew attention to him by asking him not to!!!

Page bloody 3 as you refer to it, is more pernicious than playboy becuase it is about the normalisation of seeing breasts only for titillation. It is precisely because breasts are presented mainly for titillation in the media, that breastfeeding mothers are persecuted.

I bet you if a mother was breastfeeding in the playground, more people would be offended by that, than by a bloke looking at page 3.

Those of you who think that people object to a man looking at breasts purely because they are breasts, are either being extremely disingenuous or just plain stupid. It is not the breasts per se, it is the objectification of them and the presentation of them solely as boy's toys that intelligent people object to. Of course no one objects to the sight of breasts which are merely breasts. What a stupid idea.

hmc · 21/09/2010 20:22

Agree HerBeau - eloquently put.

hmc · 21/09/2010 20:23

(Wilfully annoys SM by correcting her own typo), I meant HerBeat

scottishmummy · 21/09/2010 20:24

spurious tosh.you bet bf would offend parents?i bet you are betting to make a point to sway your argument

vanillacupcakes · 21/09/2010 20:28

totally agree with Ladyanonymous

Ladyanonymous · 21/09/2010 20:30

Love in your argument you say anyone who basically disagrees with you is an idiot.

Nice Hmm

I do anyway - disagree that is - and I am pretty sure I am not stupid.

HerBeatitude · 21/09/2010 20:31

Come off it SM have you never come across parents offended by breastfeeding?

I have. Spurious tosh yourself.

mamas12 · 21/09/2010 20:33

YANBU

I can't believe the twits on here who think that sexualisation of girls is acceptable in the school yard. Shame on all of you for all the arguments here.

Look at the mumsnet campaign for let girls be girls for goodness sake.

HerBeatitude · 21/09/2010 20:35

No LA I didn't say that anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot.

I implied that anyone who didn't get the difference between objecting to the sight of a breast merely becuase it is a breast, and objecting to the sight of a breast being presented only as titillation, is an idiot.

It's not a subtle distinction, it's a bleedin' great glaring one - if you're not determined not to see it.

scottishmummy · 21/09/2010 20:40

i never bet on something i dont know to be true.

and dont change parameters of your post to suit yourself. you posted "I bet you if a mother was breastfeeding in the playground, more people would be offended by that, than by a bloke looking at page 3" which i reiterate is spurious as you do not definitely know that, nor i suspect would you get your money back if you did bet.to then generalise out to "some parents offended by bf" isnt the same as saying in a school yard pg3 would get approval more than bf.two wholly different situations.i bet you manufactured them to support your argument

Ladyanonymous · 21/09/2010 20:40

I don't have a problem with breasts being seen as objects of sexual gratification, or for titillation. Breats are part of a womans body and we are essentially sexual beings? I don't have a problem with that it is the way nature intended us to be.

And to suggest this is the sexualsation of girls in the school yard is quite frankly ridiculous and completely over the top - the guy was reading a newspaper.

Get it in perspective.

Hullygully · 21/09/2010 20:48

I think there should be a private corner of the playground for these poor dads to have a good old wank over the tits, all boys together.
