Dad ogling pg 3 girls in playground

Strolled into school this morning with DS1 (6) to find a dad "reading" pg 3 of the Sun ( norks were in full view of the Year 2 line up ).

I thought this a tad inappropriate and asked him to turn the page, but he was really put out and huffed and puffed at me.

Tell me I was not being unreasonable.

YANBU.

Some things, like nose picking and looking at page 3, should not be done in public. We tell small children the difference between public and private, a lesson obviously lost on this man.

And ChippingIn, everyone knows that Playboy is all about the interesting articles.

Appletrees · 22/09/2010 17:22

"titillate"

may I just join the thread at the end of its life to say I think you are right

but then it's a free country

however you are right

Boredguy · 22/09/2010 17:22

my posts got deleted quick

Appletrees · 22/09/2010 17:24

sethstarkadder, I do agree with you

I loathe this, oh you're so repressed, it's all about reproduction, don't your children see you naked, blah blah

I think you'll find it isn't you free-hearted folk

HerBeatitude · 22/09/2010 17:32

Your post did get deleted quickly Boredguy so I'm guessing it contained a personal insult or something illegal. I suppose MN must have spotted you as a troll.

HTH.

AbsofCroissant · 22/09/2010 17:46

So people are actually saying it's alright to look at soft porn in front of 6-7 year olds? FREAKING HELL

lionheart · 22/09/2010 17:48

yanbu

NotEnoughTime · 22/09/2010 18:01

Boredguy, I feel very sorry for you, I dont know what is wrong with you /why you are so angry/misogynistic etc. I hope you are able to find peace within yourself one day.

2shoes · 22/09/2010 18:02

looking at soft porn the man was reading the paper not playboy.....

ChippingIn · 22/09/2010 18:08

herbeatitude you assume because I don't agree with you, that I haven't read the thread Hmm I have read all of the thread - I just don't agree that a Dad, reading the paper, minding his own business, was doing any harm. He wasn't drawing attention to it, he wasn't showing the kids the picure...

Have you thought about going into politics? We don't want to accept it. We have more self-respect than that. And we have ambition and vision for our daughters ... nothing has changed since the 70's when I grew up, I have managed all of those things, despite page 3 of the sun showing a woman without her top on.

No Abs what I am saying is that a Dad, reading a newspaper, which happens to have a picture of a girl with no top on, isn't the end of the world as we know it.

Steth I'm not sure what you do 'to get ready' to have sex with your husband, but whatever it is - Page 3 girls aren't doing it!? HmmGrin

sethstarkaddersmum · 22/09/2010 18:20

But he wasn't reading the paper, unless he was a very slow reader indeed and it took him that long to work out what the few words on page 3 said. He was looking at pictures of a woman's breasts.

sethstarkaddersmum · 22/09/2010 18:21

sorry, a picture, since we're being picky.

2shoes · 22/09/2010 18:25

how does anyone(even the op) know he wasn't reading??

sethstarkaddersmum · 22/09/2010 18:37

but how do you explain someone staring at page 3 for ages and ages if they are reading? There are not many words on it.

Bordedguy, do you work hard at being as thick as shit?

this got my loudest laugh of the day!!

ChippingIn · 22/09/2010 18:43

Well, define 'ages & ages' - anything over 10 seconds would have wound the OP up I'm sure!

Do we know if it was a half page photo or a whole page?

Did he have Page 2 open as well, or was it folded under?

I mean really - who knows...

"Reproduction is a fact of life. Men need some sort of (often VISUAL) stimuli for this to happen".

Most of the men I've met just need a dick. That seems to be perfectly adequate for the purpose.

Or mayb e this!!

perfumedlife · 22/09/2010 18:45

You know what, this is all rather missing the point. Whether he was reading a small news story on the bottom Smile of page 3, oggling boobs or just in one of those lovely, relaxing stares you sometimes do, the paper isn't really the main issue.

The op asked the man to turn the page as she was afraid kids would see the breasts. He huffed and puffed, but I gather he did turn the page? Then the op comes on to AIBU and wants to feel good about her decision to ask him to turn the page, and when roughly 35/40% of posters don't agree with her decision, she accuses them of wishing porn on school children, tantamount to child abuse I would say.

And all so she can feel good about her decision. Now, if I was so sure of my decision to act that way, the last thing I would do would come here and ask for validation. So., it seems to me, in some small recess of the op's mind, she doubts herself.

Wonder why? Confused

PosieParker · 22/09/2010 18:47

No she doesn't. Actually not all posters are looking for validation, I often look for a pat on the back...a joining in of the moaning and alarming situation I find myself in, I do love a good moan.,
