to believe some if not all of the 9/11 conspiracy theories

NOTE: This is not meant to be offensive and if you suffered as a result of 9/11 you have my deepest sympathies it was a terrible event however it was caused.

Having watched a few documentaries on the conspiracy theories I am partially if not completely convinced all was not as it seemed. The fact that many witnesses that saw/heard things that didn't tie in with the official version have since died in suspicious circumstances doesn't help!

I don't know what you mean....

controlled explosions???

What was George Bush's reaction then? why do you think it was 'suspicious'???

Caoimhe · 11/09/2010 16:46

Well you may believe those things, mrsunreasonable (although personally I think you are wrong to) but the big question is - if you are right, why would anyone do those things?

ValiumSingleton · 11/09/2010 16:50

..... and to add to what Caoimhe said, the Who or the why isn't what makes it so shocking, tragic and unforgettable, it's the number of people who died and what they went through before they died.

perfumedlife · 11/09/2010 17:03

Maybe it was a perfect excuse to start the 'war on terror', a very unspecific war, with no real end in sight.

RunawayWife · 11/09/2010 17:10

As for George Bush, well the man was a puppet, I have seen cow pats with more smarts then that man.

Caoimhe · 11/09/2010 17:13

But why would the US want to bog itself down in a war without end?

As ValiumSingleton says, it is the horror of the suffering of those people that has etched it on the minds of so many. Today should be a day of remembrance of them, not a day for crazy theories.

HowsTheSerenity · 11/09/2010 17:29

Let us look at the fact that ALL flights were grounded. Except an US Air Force flight that flew around collecting the Bin Ladens and taking them to a safe location.

The USA had been funding the Taliban in the 80's and 90's (post cold war anti Russian crap). Oil. The Bushes have interests in the oil industry in the Middle East. Bin Laden was was considered a 'friend' of the USA.

perfumedlife · 11/09/2010 17:32

USA has many reasons for their war on unspecified 'evil', not least of which is oil and geographical domination.

Totally agree today is a day of remembrance, but i think part of keeping that alive is discussing and exploring this issue. There is room for both, without disrespecting the dead.

Schools discuss Nazi Germany all the time without disrespecting war dead.

MadameDefarge · 11/09/2010 17:37

d'ya think our lizard overlords will force us to lounge languidly on warm stones in balmy climates? I do hope so.

Chil1234 · 11/09/2010 17:48

9/11 (like JFK and Diana) produces conspiracy theories because it's tempting to think that such a shocking, tragic & bizarre event couldn't possibly have happened in the relatively simple way it seemed to. 'There has to be more to it than that'. It's tempting to look for another explanation, for the smoke and mirrors. However, the conspiracy theories I've been exposed to on 9/11 usually ask us to believe something even more bizarre was the truth. I think that what we saw that day was what happened.... no matter how much we wish it hadn't.

DameYankee · 11/09/2010 17:57

Yes, there WAS a conspiracy behind 9-11.

It was called Al Qaeda.

mrshess · 11/09/2010 18:01

Someone has mentioned witnesses dying in suscpicious circumstances can anyone elaborate?

Caoimhe · 11/09/2010 18:07

Yes, Chil1234 - it's like the death of Diana, people can't believe that someone like her could die in such an ordinary way.

As with 9/11, maybe people would prefer it to be the work of Dubya and associated (amazingly silent) lackies than believe that it is possible for a buch of weirdo terrorists to wreak such destruction.

chillichill · 11/09/2010 18:15

as an American and new yorker I just can't believe our government, as fucked up as it was at the time, did it. I do however wonder how much was known about the terrorist attack and how little might have been done to prevent it. nyc is a no fly zone and I do not believe the statement that the planes were flying too low to be picked up by radar.

spikeycow · 11/09/2010 18:15

The CIA gets blamed for everything though. They were blamed for the Jonestown massacre for example. Oh I don't know. Will stay on the fence with this one.
RIP to everyone who lost their lives. My brother lost a good friend on 7/7, he was only 22.

LouMacca · 11/09/2010 18:21

Well said DameYankee.

All these conspiracy theories about 9/11 are total crap. Do you seriously believe that the US government would allow thousands of their own people to die for justifacation to start a war??

I don't think there was anything suspicious about the reaction of Bush, the man is a pillock. I have seen video clips on youtube where he said he saw the first plane hit the tower, obviously he meant the second plane. I have watched the ripple effect twice and it didn't convince me at all.

The attack was totally unprecedented, who could know what would happen to the twin towers when two planes hit? All this talk of controlled explosions is ridiculous.

I have watched footage from bereaved families who lost their loved ones who were on the American Airlines flight (the second plane to hit) - are they all lying?

My thoughts are with the family and friends of all the innocent victims today RIP.

mrsunreasonable · 11/09/2010 20:01

OK I admit some of the theories are far fetched and when I say I believe them I really mean I believe they have a point that something is not quite right not necessarily I believe them in them unquestionably.

I don't think it is beyond the realms of possibility that someone at sometime thought 'hey the twin towers are prime targets for terrorist attacks i.e bombs in 1993 If they were to be attacked and have structual damage do we want them to come down sideways and destroy a large are of Manhatten or would we prefer to bring them down like a controlled demolition into their own footprint therefore saving countless lives on the ground' of course this could never be admitted too as the person who pressed the button/made the decision to bring them down in a controlled way would be blamed for the deaths of those still inside. There are records of several people knowing that the towers would collapse and telling fire officials to get the firemen out. How could this be when no structure of the same design has ever collapsed due to bomb or fire. Also experts have shown that for the towers to fall at the speed they did they must have met no resistance on the way down, well how can that be when lower levels were still quite structually sound.

Of course the family of the victims on the supposed second plane are not lying they did loose their loved ones but perhaps not in the way we are led to believe.

I can't remember the details of all the witnesses who died afterwards i.e names and how they died but the Helicopter News guy who said the second plane was grey and had no windows died afterwards and the other man who was in the helicopter refuses to speak about the plane he saw. Some firemen who saw bomb damage on lower levels of towers and one who found a body in a closet at the bottom of the second tower before the plane even hit have all died.

And whoever said debating this was like thinking the holocaust never happened I question how they can be the same I am not saying this never happened or that it wasn't a horrific event with massive loss of live which should always be remembered and mourned all I am saying is that perhaps the 'facts' we have been presented with post 9/11 should not all be fully believed without question.

OP posts:
UnePrune · 11/09/2010 20:07

'The plane that crashed into a field was shot down - Dick Cheney said this' - did he? I remember watching the coverage and the reporter saying that the plane was being followed by USAF fighter jets, and then NOTHING more about that. It has always bothered me that they might have shot it down, but it was an impossible situation really.
Can anyone elaborate on that?

Totally agree with everyone who says 'Er, WHY would the U govt do this?' It has hardly been a successful move if they did.

Laska · 11/09/2010 20:17

Caiomhe said: "But why would the US want to bog itself down in a war without end?"

Because it has generated billions and enabled the erosion of civil liberties with governments becoming ever more totalitarian. Terrorists are a much better enemy than the Russians, those guys could be anyone and anywhere!!

backwardpossom · 11/09/2010 20:19

I for one think the conspiracy theories are a crock of shit. Hmm Why the need for them? Bad stuff happens.
