to believe some if not all of the 9/11 conspiracy theories

NOTE: This is not meant to be offensive and if you suffered as a result of 9/11 you have my deepest sympathies it was a terrible event however it was caused.

Having watched a few documentaries on the conspiracy theories I am partially if not completely convinced all was not as it seemed. The fact that many witnesses that saw/heard things that didn't tie in with the official version have since died in suspicious circumstances doesn't help!

Tokyo and chibi - come on then, explain it.

Explain it to me with your clever counter arguments.

I don't understand what you are getting at. How did the core columns collapse? Right down to the ground?

Feenie · 12/09/2010 08:33

What is a consipisey? Confused

Flighttattendant · 12/09/2010 08:33

Oh and Expat, of course.

This basic level of understanding - please put it into simple words for me, if it is that easy.

I would be really interested to hear it.

stealthpony · 12/09/2010 08:35

Well, I'll tell you something for a fact. Have you noticed how many powerhungry, money driven, extremist men were involved? I defintiely blame men.

We're all fucked when the aliens come anyway. What hope does a world have that fights and destroys itself have against the Daleks?

9/11 was the most horrific thing I've ever known of. 9 years have passed and the impact on seeing those planes flying into the towers is still as shocking as it was at the time. Conspiracy theories or not, so many innocent people lost their lives that day for no good reason. What these poor people had going through their minds at the time is unthinkable.

Flighttattendant · 12/09/2010 08:38

Yes it was horrific and a huge crime, whoever was behind it.

I have not read anything that convinces me it was not at least known about, and possibly created, by the US govt.

Nothing.
I think we hold a right to question official explanations that do not make sense. I don't know if it was them, but I strongly suspect it.

I have no engineering knowledge. NIST does apparently and that little report is all they could come up with - Oh we assumed there was no explosive, because, uh, it fell down clearly due to other forces.

Appletrees · 12/09/2010 08:39

What level of understanding do you need? I did o lev physics and there were no collapsing buildings, only dropping different sized pebbles from the same height. Basic u.understanding of what? I don't think people with an average science education would understand the mechanics of the collapse whatever the cause, unless it was explained. All this wtf and Jesus. If it's so pies easy, explain it instead of spitting tea and chortling.

chibi · 12/09/2010 08:40

this is an article from a popular science magazine, on par with the new scientist in this country

although i expect you already have your mind made up. is it more fun to think that the government did it? or freemasons?

edam · 12/09/2010 08:44

What armi said.

It's amazing that so many people who do not have any training in physics think they can become instant experts - not by doing GCSEs followed by A levels followed by a BSc and MSc or Phd but by reading a few wacko websites.

expatinscotland · 12/09/2010 08:46

'go to 1.22 in that pentagon shot - I watch three times and failed to see the plane in full - please if they wanted to show properly they could put it into slow motion to show far more - whay havn't they if the consprisey have nothing to hide?'

Okay.

So all those people who saw a commercial aircraft flying into the Pentagon are making it up, and, according to some, unreliable people of no credibility.

Why do 'they' need to put anything into slow motion to prove anything to consipisey theory believers?

Flight, the columns where the planes struck became elastic due to the heat of the jet fuel. This made them unable to support the weight of the floors above them, particularly in WTC1 which was struck lower down, hence it fell first. The result is that the floors collaped upon one another, this process accelerated as the weight grew as the building fell lower and lower.

here

CheerfulYank · 12/09/2010 08:47

Oh FFS.

This reminds me of the South Park episode where one of the kids goes to extreme lengths to convince everyone of a crazy 9/11 theory and almost manages to do so. At the end someone says, "I don't get it, so who really did cause 9/11?" And one of the kids looks up blankly and says, "What do you mean, dude? A bunch of pissed off Muslims!"

And that's the way it is. Many, many people died, and no matter what you think of America or our government, they were innocent. I will remember every detail of that day for the rest of my life. Most of all I'll remember the few desperate hours when we couldn't reach my aunt and uncle, who lived near Ground Zero at the time. They were (are) okay, but for those hours I was so sure they were dead. And maybe it's easy enough to pass around made-up bullshit and try to find a reason for it all beyond pissed-off Muslim extremists, but there just isn't one.

Appletrees · 12/09/2010 08:47

Don't be so rude chibi. Coverups happen and the reaction every time is "don't be so stupid". Until there's a lot of feet shuffling and admissions or exposures. So excuse me if I fail to see "don't be so stupid" as a forceful and convincing argument.

nikkershaw · 12/09/2010 08:49

it happened just as reported, no conspiracy theory, i don't really understand how people can think the flying two jets into the towers couldn't do less harm that they did

there have been so many programmes to show exactly what happened (each floor collapsing down) that it's a bit bananas to suggest otherwise.

and also someone would have cracked and opened their gob about it all these years later (watergate)

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 12/09/2010 08:50

A conspiracy theory with evidence is just "a conspiracy"

BaggedandTagged · 12/09/2010 08:54

Personally I reckon Prince Philip did it. Not content with organising the assasination of Princess Diana, this was his next attempt at world domination.

pinkfizzle · 12/09/2010 08:55

a new theory

expatinscotland · 12/09/2010 08:56

too right, prince phillip.

lord mountbatten was actually assassinated by aliens, too, who then used the IRA to cover their tracks - they were in league together.

Appletrees · 12/09/2010 08:56

Thanks expat. who can debunk the passport thing? everything utterly destroyed except the passports which were in the middle of the inferno but survived I.tact and were found superquick?

Flighttattendant · 12/09/2010 08:57

Thanks Chibi, I have bookmarked the PM link to read later as am about to go out for the morning. The other link explains nothing as far as I can make out.

Ignoring Expat's attempt at cleverness.

expatinscotland · 12/09/2010 09:00

It's apparently nasty and horrible to express any negative sentiments about slebs and WAGs, but it's not insensitive and nasty to conclude that thousands of innocent people were undoubtedly murdered by their own government on the anniversary of their deaths.

Hmm

Yes, please do ignore me!

The feeling is entirely mutual.

chibi · 12/09/2010 09:01

At no point did I say anyone was stupid

However otherwise intelligent folk can believe all manner of dumb things

Me, I think there were certainly those ingovernment who thought yeehaw, here's our chance (I am thinking of that woman here who said it was a great day to bury bad news)

However I do not think being happy about something and willing to take advantage of it equates to having planned and executed it

Appletrees · 12/09/2010 09:06

You imply it though. So the passports. I'm convincing myself here. Pretty convenient wasn't it?

expatinscotland · 12/09/2010 09:08

My friend Jason's entire rucksack was discovered within hours of the collapse (he was evacuated from WTC2).

EagleNebula · 12/09/2010 09:09

Please read this for an excellent debunking of some of these theories here, particulary Building 7 and the thermite. I don't understand why you say Building 7 was 'hardly damaged' CSD - it clearly was, fires were burning on every floor, and debris from the North tower had sheared through 3 floors.

People are being accused of being naive, and believing whatever the government tells them. I disagree - each conspiracy theory has been investigated, and proven to be false, by a combination of experts and eyewitnesses. Why are the conspiracy theorists being given more credence than these?
