I got a pair from my mum last Christmas and I'm a ugg worshipper now, they're so ruddy comfy I could sleep in them!
I just don't get why they are hated on MN?!

I lurve my UGGS. Last time I looked, they were clean, non saggy and utterly lush

I finally succmbed to the UGG craze last winter when heavily pregnant and trying not to have the heating going all day long. They were the only things that kept me toasty warm.

Last time I looked, I weren't too common neither.....

PeasPlease · 11/09/2010 11:30

Uggs look great on skinny legs but Grin on the wider legged lady.

emmyloulou · 11/09/2010 11:44

I used to hate UGGS really with a passion but I have just invested in my 1st pair for school runs/driving.

It's the fakes that look crap and collpase in and look soggy, because they are fakes, they don't hold up.

The uggs I have have a full hard sole, so just like any other boot, so not like wearing slippers, a proper out door boot which is warm and incredibly comfy.

You'd have to travel for miles around here to find a "chav" on the school run, the majority are 4x4, Boden wearing SAHM mums, I refuse to join the Boden brigade as I hate their clothes Grin

ValiumSingleton · 11/09/2010 11:51

I'm sure they're comfy but they make the wearer look shorter, and fatter. But if you're size 8 and 6 foot then great! Uggs are the boots for you.

ValiumSingleton · 11/09/2010 11:55

I definitely don't hate them because they are common, I don't have an opinion on that, wouldn't know if I hadn't been told here. I dislike them because they are ugly, unflattering and as a pp said, they make any outfit look scruffy. Is that not enough?? must I think they're common! lol. Like they're isn't a plethora of reasons to dislike them.

estya · 11/09/2010 18:50

I really only dislike the cheap copies that around here are worn with pink velour tracksuits.
I'm just waiting for a spark from someone's mobile phone and the whole highstreet is going to go up in flames.

Odysseus · 13/09/2010 15:05

I think a lot of people don't like them becase they can't afford them.

ozmetric · 13/09/2010 15:08

YANBU. If you like them then wear them :)

There are too many ridiculous, uncomfortable and impractical shoe designs out there, and personally I'd much prefer to wear Uggs than totter around on high heels.

PosieParker · 13/09/2010 15:11

They can look nice but not when worn with leggings or jeggings...ewwww.

chilipepper27 · 19/09/2010 16:42

please tell me that some of you are not so judgemental that you actually think people are common just by what they wear on their feet!? i have a pair of fake uggs and i gasp sometimes shop in primark ,and i dont think i am common im just skint!

nameymcnamechange · 19/09/2010 16:48

"I think a lot of people don't like them becase they can't afford them."

Roffle. I was waiting for this old chestnut to come up. "You're just jealous ner ner".

I think a lot of people don't like them because they are ugly.

chilipepper27 · 19/09/2010 17:12

they are ugly but dont you think the people wearing them look happy because they are so comfortable unlike when a person is wearing heels and you can see the pain etched on their faces

Dancergirl · 19/09/2010 17:16

Look, they just look HORRIBLE, face it. Great big, ugly, furry things on your feet.

And as for the 'oh they're sooooo comfy' etc... How old are you? I'm assuming that most people on here are under 50, yes? Plenty of time for comfort in old age. No amount of comfort can compensate for the fact that they are truly ugly footwear.

And wearing them in summer....? What's that all about?

Faaamily · 19/09/2010 17:17

I love my Uggs. I have various other styles of boots which I love more, but once you get deep down into coldest winter, there is just nothing as snuggly and lovely as a pair of Ugg boots. Toasty!

I hate all those Duo / Rocket Dog / Blowfish type boots much, much more. My best friend summed it up nicely when she asked me incrddulously: 'What is it with 30-something mums and those Butchest Dyke On The Block Boots? (She is a pretty butch dyke herself, btw). My sentiments exactly.

Morloth · 19/09/2010 17:17

I love Uggs, am so proud of the Australian company that has managed to make millions by making people think looking like a Bogan is a good thing.

Enjoy a good snigger whenever I see them.

sickoftheholidays · 19/09/2010 17:30

I absolutely hated uggs and thought them the height of naffness. Probably this was influenced by the fact that 90% of people wearing uggs round here are wearing fake ones and have the sideways lean where the heel doesnt make contact with the sole of the boot when walking.

Then I tried a pair, and am now a convert. mine arent ugg australia, but are real sheepskin and I would buy another pair any day of the week.

Doha · 19/09/2010 18:42

Luvvv my Uggs

Have 4 pairs bought over 4 years different lengths colours and styles. They don't date and they are soooo comfy.

Nothing better on a winter morning than pulling them on keeping my tootsies warm.

WhereYouLeftIt · 19/09/2010 18:54

"And wearing them in summer....? What's that all about?"

To hide the bunions from wearing that previous fashion of totteringly high heels? Or cankles? Wink

LolaSummers · 09/12/2010 21:21

Lets face it, only most of the UK population could be daft enough to spend crazy amounts of money on ugly shoes that are really slippers, (we do have a habit of this after all!).

I still find it amazing and very amusing to see fairly well to do, well dressed women in John Lewis and then they have these awful UGG boots on their feet!, hilarious, do they realise how bad and common they look?.

A chiropodist would say that they are awful for feet, they provide no support, (same as ballerinas and most flip flops, not FIT FLOPS though!), and in future years there will be so many people walking around the UK with deformed feet. Maybe we should all re-train as chiropodists as it will be a growing industry?!Xmas Grin

Silverlace · 09/12/2010 21:33

Yes, I know they are not aesthetically pleasing but I have a pair of sheepskin boots (not Ugg but Celtic Sheepskin - buy British) and they saved my sanity last winter. I suffer from Reynauds Syndrome (poor circulation to fingers and toes, excrutiating chilblains) and as soon as I put them on I felt better. Have been out in the -10C this week and have not felt at all cold, they make all of me feel warm. So don't be too critical, some of those fashion victims might just have reasons other than being trendy to wear them.

LolaSummers · 09/12/2010 21:39

OK Silverlace, I agree I have been slightly narrow minded in my views on these awful boots, apologies to you! and the celtic ones do look nicer....

Lizzywishes · 09/12/2010 22:24

Uggs are for sixth formers and students.

PainSnail · 10/12/2010 00:44

Ugg Australia is an american company, despite the name. The boots themselves are mostly made in china. Nothing very australian there.

These "boots", plus ballet pumps, have created an explosion of foot problems over the last few years...

onceamai · 10/12/2010 07:12

If I'm spending 200 I want to spend it on something smart and pretty, ie, LK Bennett, Russell & Bromley.

Have never owned crocs, birkenstocks, or scholls either Grin

Ieattoomuchcake · 10/12/2010 07:23

Can I join in the defence of uggs..
Mine are fab and comfy. And... They are from Australia (by which I mean they were bought there) and have an 'outdoor sole' so are not slippers.
The sole is a bit chunkier and has grips.

They are fairly ugly (or should that be uggly??) though.
But I still love them.
