I am referring to this; www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-11061296

and yes, I am totally aware that the police and government are to blame too but we expect governments and to an extent police, to be corrupt.

I am saying this as a RC too. I am fucking shocked at the amount of revolting crap that the church seem to get away with. Covering up paedophiles/abusers, bombers and who knows what else.

Why are they never made accountable?

Claig, hatred and personal attacks generally come from insecurity and a need to be liked so I suppose you could say in some ways that it's from the devil!
Any kind of hatred would not come from God anyway.

seeker · 30/08/2010 08:56

Well, if that's all you're interested in, then the BNP is just the party for you. Go for it. Who cares about the living, just so long as embryos are preserved.

FreddoBaggyMac · 30/08/2010 09:03

A baby at 24 weeks is living Seeker. How can you say otherwise? My friend's baby was born just after 24 weeks and is now a gorgeous, healthy three year old.
I do care about 'the living' as you put it. I just think the most vulnerable people are the ones that need the most protection that's all, and current laws make it legal to kill them!

blondecat · 30/08/2010 09:25

Yes, to the original question

But given the media coverage I can see how you get there.

The catholic church is a large group of people. The correct definition includes all Catholics - living and dead. In such a group you will find all kinds - good and evil and downright muddled. Humanity basically.

The media definition usually refers to hierarchy only - perhaps that's what you refer to. And the same point still applies - they are human beings with all the follies and failings that implies. It's just that we perhaps expect better of them and that's why it hurts so much and makes us so angry when they are found wanting.

Still when people say catholic church / Catholics deserves XYZ It hurts. It is not fair. And it makes people defensive. Have you ever thought why england is the only country I know of where the popes visit is celebrated by the state broadcaster only by a series on sex scandals? If you're catholic 300+ years of persecution, bigotry and propaganda in art, literature and official history is your answer.Sad My French husband doesn't understand. He may believe in laicite but finds that silly and small minded.

seeker · 30/08/2010 09:25

For the record, the number of abortions carried out at 24 weeks is vanishingly small, and almost exculusively when the baby has a condition incompatible with life, or when the mother's life is at severe risk.

It is extremely rare for an abortion to be carried out later than 18 weeks.

But, as I said, the BNP supports the reduction of the abortion limit. So if this is the most important issue for you, it's obviously your party.

seeker · 30/08/2010 09:41

Over 90% of abortions are carried out at 13 weeks gestation or lower. Less than half of 1% at 20 weeks or higher.

FreddoBaggyMac · 30/08/2010 09:44

18 weeks is till living imo Seeker, just because the baby could not survive independently at that time does not make him/her less than human.

And I can't believe you're telling me to go and support the BNP Smile - is that what all Catholics should do then??? If I said OK I will go and support them would I then be abused like DP Confused

I agree with your post blondecat.

FreddoBaggyMac · 30/08/2010 09:47

Seeker, even one murder of a defenceless child is wrong imo , whatever the reason behind it. Would you say it was OK to kill a child with a deformity after he/she had been born, even if it was only one child in a million?
Babies are living people at 13 weeks and less imo.

daftpunk · 30/08/2010 09:52

Seeker;

If you continue to attack me and bring up threads from months (if not years) ago, I will report you. I don't need another stalker.

& it's interesting that some truely awful posts on this thread about catholics are ignored in favour of attacking me and the things I said 18 months ago, I can only assume that laying into me is far more entertaining for you.

I could spend 10 minutes explaining how senior Conservative politicians have said publically that not everyone who supports the BNP are racist, & that their "popularity" (for want of a better word) is down to catastrophic Labour policies, but I'd be wasting my time as it would go completely over your head. This incessant attention that you give me is quite bizaar, if not a little scary.

And re; the SN thread, I made it quite clear from the start I wasn't talking about disabled children, it was a badly worded thread title. The thread was actually very informative, probably why it's still here.

FreddoBaggyMac · 30/08/2010 09:53

I actually support the abolition of abortion rather than reduction of the limit so it would not really appear that the BNP is the party for me! I don't want to turn this into a discussion on whether abortions should be legal or not though, have been through that lots and lots of times before, I know everyone's views and resons, my opinion does not change!

seeker · 30/08/2010 09:57

Feel free to report me! I'm not attacking you - I'm just telling people what you believe, based on your own posts, and the Party you support. Just in case they don't realize the company they are keeping.

Oh, and is it "really^ 18 months since the general election? How time flies!

seeker · 30/08/2010 09:58

Oh, and I was on this thread before you were, dp - so who's stalking whom!

daftpunk · 30/08/2010 10:05

You are attacking me...you make the same post about me over & over again, what are you getting out of it?

And all this "don't associate with her" what is that all about? this is an anonynmous talk forum with 1000's of different people on it, we mix sometimes...no one is getting married here.

daftpunk · 30/08/2010 10:08

And I wish all the people who go on and on about how terrible I am would stay away from me, but they never do.

jenny60 · 30/08/2010 10:11

YANBU and neither is Seeker for reminding people of what DP stands for.

Quattrocento · 30/08/2010 10:24

Two questions: (i) why does this happen on every thread DP is on and (ii) what happened to the promise made by her to stick to music threads to prevent threads going like this?

seeker · 30/08/2010 10:26

Show me where I am attacking you. You should be proud of your political views and be delighted to share them with everyone. That's how I feel about mine!

But if you genuinely think I am attacking you, report me. See what happens.

FreddoBaggyMac · 30/08/2010 10:28

This is just madness Grin

DP, all I would say to you is to remember the Beatitudes:

''Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.''

I haven't a clue whether everything you believe in is right or wrong... but this has just gone ridiculous.

Everyone's main gripe against DP seems to be that she supports the BNP, but on the other hand evryone who is pro-life should join the BNP???? Seriously Confused... need some time away to think happy thoughts...

daftpunk · 30/08/2010 10:34

A-(i) This happens on every thread I'm on because there are a few posters who just can't let go, they want to continue fighting and going over old threads....it's so annoying, not just for me but for anyone else who happens to be on the thread.

We're all bored stiff talking about me.

A-(ii) I stuck to them for 2 months, and I'm staying out of the way as much as possible. I'm posting on this thread because I'm catholic. This thread went the way it did because of other posters, why don't you take it up with them.

Tell you I've seen the light on a religious thread?....kinda funky, I could go with that.

Listen seeker I like you, and trust me I wouldn't say that if I didn't mean it, but you have to let this go, for everyones sake.
Think of the bigger picture, when you start on me everyone else on the thread just roll their eyes and think; "oh no, here we go again"...it's getting very boring.

I have started threads in the political section about politics, MN allow political debate, if they didn't they wouldn't have a section for it would they. however, on reflection maybe I should have kept certain to myself, I dunno.

I'm on F/B now with political friends of all parties (mainly Tory/UKIP) so if I feel the need to talk politics, I'll be doing it on there from now on.

MN is mainly about support and having fun, it's not really a political forum, I understand that now & appreciate some of my political opinions may not have been to everyones taste. Having said that, I maintain that I am not racist or homophobic,(I know I'm not so that's good enough for me) my default setting is one of immense kindness, as anyone who knows me in RL would tell you.

Anywaaaaay, nothing more is to gained from this thread, time to call it a day.

FBM; I'm not sure if we've ever spoken before?, just wanted to say it's been great reading your posts and talking to you.

MathsX/Claig; A pleasure.... as always.

DeathandTaxes · 30/08/2010 12:23

Seeker You come across at best as tedious and self righteous, and at worst completely intolerant and rigidly dogmatic.

ItalyLovingMummy · 30/08/2010 12:35

Its like any organised religion, not just catholics. I have met people who whilst religious are kind and tolerant and who listen to others opinions respectfully (they have friends from mixed backgrounds including atheists) and then....there are the ones who see things in black and white, will only mix with people of their own faith and its like the blind leading the blind. My best friend became a Jehovahs Witness again four years ago (she was brought up as one and was ex-communicated when she was 25, then at 33 went back) and to begin with she stayed the same, however, over the last two years she has started to change. She doesn't realise how rude, bossy, daft and narrow minded she has become and its got to the stage that I may have to have a word or I can see me not wanting to know her any more. I agree with maryz's comments as I have met other JW's who are fine, so I think its down to the person and how they choose to follow a religion that makes it ok or not.

jenny60 · 30/08/2010 13:21

seeker: for what it's worth, I admire your fortitude and I agree with you.

noddyholder · 30/08/2010 13:33

I think it is true of organised religion in general you are right.Any big group with a lot of power is open to corruption and by a law of averages is going to have some dodgy members.I doubt dp is persecuted because of her righteousness Grin.It is not a case of not letting it go but of standing up for what you believe in no matter what something DP would be wise to learn instead of spouting her views and then playing the poor me at the first sign of a negative response.Seeker you are right to stick to your guns
