Are we really producing ever more kids with these conditions or do parents simply need to take back control and realise that, at times, all kids can be obnoxious, loud, defiant, restless and fidgety and that strictly enforced rules for behaviour, lots of TLC, and the occasional smack on the bum may be the way forward?

And your point is....?

No I'm not.

I'm countering wasuup3000's view that the medical establishment always knows best and that its diagnoses and prevailing views are always right.

Bretton, you cant have a serious debate, based solely on your opinions, backed up with nothing.

Tiredmumno1 · 24/08/2010 16:41

bret what kind of medical background do you hold, for you to be able to spout your twaddle?

evidence?

Breton1900 · 24/08/2010 16:43

cornsilky;' My point is that those ridiculous beliefs about women's brains, wombs and behaviours were accepted as facts by many in the medical professions of the 19thC.

We now realise it was all nonsense.

OP posts:
Tiredmumno1 · 24/08/2010 16:45

Bret you are nonsense

Breton1900 · 24/08/2010 16:48

Claw3: This is hardly a serious debate!

As for my opinions I have, where necessary, cited references to corroborate and substantiate my points.

OP posts:
cornsillky · 24/08/2010 16:50

being a twat is timeless

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 24/08/2010 16:50

Am actually finding the OP more and more creepy with all the "religious" jargon and creepy way of putting things. I actually think he is quite a weird damaged individual. (and no I haven't just worked that out)

dontdisstheteens · 24/08/2010 16:50

FFS, and a great many intelligent people thought the world was flat, and; that proves that all doctors/scientists now are wrong about everything?

Breton you are not big, you are not clever and you are not funny.

nuh nuh nuh ner neeeer

Off you run and play somewhere else there's a good boy.

Claw3 · 24/08/2010 16:51

Breton, what are basing your opinion on?

What pioneering research have you been doing?

Do you have a child with ASD/ADHD?

You yourself have said that there are obviously some children with severe difficulties, does it really matter what we call it?

If next Century they decide that ASD/ADHD is all a load of nonsense, you can then congratulate yourself.

But for this Century there is overwhelming evidence, backed up specialist opinions, that i trust as do many others which describe our childrens difficulties, much better than your theory does.

cornsillky · 24/08/2010 16:52

I think he's Tom Cruise

Tiredmumno1 · 24/08/2010 16:52

Yeah run off and play with the traffic on the m25

Claw3 · 24/08/2010 16:55

Where were the references, i only saw one from Jay Joseph, who is a psychologist, not a sciencist. You relied on his opinion after telling us that psychologists are not sciencists and cant be relied upon!

2shoes · 24/08/2010 16:55

scientologist
thats the word I was looking for earlier thanks Eloise

omg the op thinks they are clever

Tiredmumno1 · 24/08/2010 16:57

Clever at being a twunt Grin

Tiredmumno1 · 24/08/2010 16:58

So bret are you male or female?

cornsillky · 24/08/2010 16:59

I wonder if Breton belives in dinosaurs? Technically he is one so would be interesting Hmm

cornsillky · 24/08/2010 17:01

He is male. Sat in his Yfronts getting off on so much female attention.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 24/08/2010 17:01

Breton

I have raised a child who was diagnosed by a psychiatrist as having ADHD and prescribed medication for five years. It is a very real condition and an absolute nightmare at times to deal with. Such kids will push you to the very edge. They are not just fidgety kids with a lot of energy and badly behaved as you seem to suggest, it goes much deeper than that.

Of course I suspect you have no children at all.

3Trees · 24/08/2010 17:02

What I don't get, and forgive me I am new both to MN and also to the world of ASD (only being in the assessment process for DS thus far - he is not naughty, but he has poor motor function, EXTREME need for routine, Obsessiveness, social communication issues, sensory issues etc) is why ANYONE without either a child with one of these DX, or a close relative / friend with a child / with the dx OR who worked with such children would have a useful opinion either way.

Not to belittle anyone at all, just that, until I NEEDED to know, I had no reason to know anything much about these things, and wouldn't have presumed to comment.

yes, I read and saw all the sensationalist news reports / docus etc, but I assumed that, whatever I MIGHT think, I didn't actuyally have to live with these things and, if I thught that it seemed like "bad parenting" or "over diagnosis" well, I couldn't know because I only had the sensationalist reports for reference.

NOW I see that such things are far more complex than naughtiness and poor parenting. I also see that the dx process is painfully complicated and difficult, both for parents and children. The whole package of indicators is something I would not wish on anyone, and I am glad I kept my stupid mouth shut when I knew nothing about it.

2shoes · 24/08/2010 17:02

actually I don't think it is male.
I think it is a troll
and a sick one.
I wish they would fuck off and go play in the traffic now.
