to hate car stickers saying 'Baby on Board'

Sorry but they drive me mad. I drive carefully all the time so I'm not going to take special care if there is a baby in the car in front of me. Or are they alerting me to the fact that the person in front of me is likely to drive erractically as they are a parent and therefore have much more important things on their mind than driving safely? Or are they, as I suspect, just a way of saying 'Hey look what I made...'? And don't get me started on the ones that say 'Princess on Board'. They don't even make me laugh.
Anyone else want to put them in Room 101?

I cant even tell you why they irritate me - they just do.
However, no one has yet mentioned the most offensive and irritating car stickers of all time - those fecking FRANGIPANI stickers! (or dont you have them in the UK?)

Nothing, but nothing, screams "bogan" louder.

shudder

epicfail · 21/08/2010 08:55

What is a chav? Not an insult which is thrown around in Oz I am afraid - can someone enlighten me?

DDDixon · 21/08/2010 09:36

Surely large sunshade in shape of cat's face removes requirement for sticker and is also practical?

I think a 'chav' is similar to a 'bogan'. What's a frangipani sticker?

bigstripeytiger · 21/08/2010 09:37

Frangipani car stickers

epicfail · 21/08/2010 09:50

oh well done bigstripeytiger - excellent link.

DDDixon · 21/08/2010 09:52
Shock

I think I prefer those, they are prettier than yellow rhomboids.

BoojaB · 21/08/2010 10:12

Superfly, you mean the Cheltenham Ladies College myth?

LibertyGibbet · 21/08/2010 10:21

I only opened this thread to see how long it took for somebody to claim they were invented to alert the emergency services and how long after that it took for a link to snopes to pop up.

I was not disappointed.

Welcome to MN bingo.

RonansMummy · 21/08/2010 10:28

my DH couldn't wait to get one, he's got one that says "monkey on board" and one that says "dad's taxi". I don't see why they would be annoying, he's just really excited about having a baby and I think thats lovely.

I'm about to do my test, and when/if I drive bbaby I will want to put one up with my ggreen P signs so other drivers will be aware that i might drive nervously. It will just give me a bit more confidence.

mindtheagegap · 21/08/2010 10:31

YANBU. They are hideous but never thought they were chavvy (well, maybe the pink 'princess on board' ones are a bit) - but they are smug. They say 'back off - my baby is more important than anyone else'. If you are concerned about bad drivers would you not have one that says 'human being on board?' Why is a baby on board more important than a child, a teenager, an older person - or anyone else for that matter? and I can't believe that petrol heads suddenly become considerate drivers because the car in front has a sticker in it.

Superfly · 21/08/2010 11:55

BoojaB No - I know facts, not myths.

motherbeyond · 21/08/2010 12:54

i don't know why a little thing like that would irk someone so greatly!mountains, molehills me thinks

i have baby on board one and got it so people wouldn't drive up my arse.
if you are a "frail old lady","cat on way home from vet" and don't want someone to tail gate, then get yourself a sign, problem solved Grin

ps..i don't understand why it's wrong to be p-roud that you've had a baby?
there's a difference between pride and smugness you know

lovechoc · 21/08/2010 12:59

I'm not getting upset about this topic but do feel they are utterly stupid - YANBU. I cannot stand them! I didn't like them before I had DC and I dislike them even more now that I do have DC.

The cars I really dislike are the ones where they have about 3 or 4 in the rear window so how on earth does the driver of the car manage to see anything behind him/her???

lovechoc · 21/08/2010 13:02

"And another thing. If these drivers are so concerned about safety, may I suggest they don't obscure their rear/side view with a sign."

Couldn't have put it better myself, herbaceous!

Snobear4000 · 21/08/2010 13:03

I want one that says Man In Car. People don't get them for safety reasons, they are just gloating.

YANBU

lovechoc · 21/08/2010 13:05

the fact is you are nothing special, people have babies all the time, what of it? Why do people feel the need to put a sign on their rear windscreen to broadcast what people have been doing for centuries? having babies.

It's very unoriginal because every tom dick and harry is doing it too.

People should be driving safely regardless of whether there's a baby on board or not!

girlwithsparklyhair · 21/08/2010 13:33

lovechoc you sound quite bitter....

Morloth · 21/08/2010 13:56

Who knew anyone gave a fuck either way? You lot are totally insane.

emptyshell · 21/08/2010 14:02

lovechoc how dare you not agree that everyone deserves a round of applause for broadcasting their reproductive status to the world!!!

I'm going into business:

Embryo on board
Period on board
Sperm on board
PMS on board
Hormonal woman on board
Eggs on board
No eggs on board
Glint in the milkman's eye on board
On the pill
Pretending to be on the pill and hoping blokey doesn't notice
Hey guys I've got an implant
Condoms on board

I could make a packet!

emptyshell · 21/08/2010 14:02

Oh and the ultimate one:

I had sex last night - guess what's on board?

girlwithsparklyhair · 21/08/2010 14:09

empty so do you!

Morloth - why did you open and read the thread then!

Rockbird · 21/08/2010 14:13

You don't like these stickers because they're apparently self congratulatory yet you weirdos that they bother so much hate them because they bother you. How self centred is that? Let me break it to you that 99.9999999999999% of the population don't give a fuck what you think and certainly don't take you into consideration when they pop into Halfords and buy a car sticker.

Keep your eyes on the road, back off from the car in front because obviously you're too near if you can read the sticker and get a life, then your delicate little selves won't be affected. Jeez. Hmm

emptyshell · 21/08/2010 14:18

How unecessarily abusive - you're obviously hypersensitive about your sticker's feelings. How touching.

Morloth · 21/08/2010 14:20

Entertainment, just because you are all crazy doesn't make you boring.

usualsuspect · 21/08/2010 14:28

How the hell can people get so worked up about a sticker...Good old balmy MN Grin
